Seams like a lot of players ratings are based off of their salary.

I don't get why McLouth's rating went down from 85 to 81 from MLB 2K8's last roster update. He had a breakout year last year, went to the All Star game, won a gold glove in CF and was in the 20/20 club last year. Grant it the Pirates aren't amazing by any means but they fubarred McLouth's rating.

Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche should still be 81 respectively instead of 78 and 77 . It's nice to see some of the other guys get SOME love from 2K8 like Nyjer Morgan.

I wonder if 2K8 will pro rate some players ratings due to admitted steroid use ? *cough* Arod *cough*

        Re: MLB 2K9 Player Ratings

Player ratings in cases like these are meaningless.

We have no idea how the game engine treats them on the field or during simulations... we also don't know how the numbers are weighted. Are these "ceiling" numbers, or what each player is at this moment? There are too many variables here.

I took a quick look at the Sox overall numbers, and nothing jumped out as horrendously wrong.

Hey is this the thread where I can find out what that big announcement over at the 2K forums was all about?? Me, I'm guessing it has to do with them adding NaturalMotion and a whole new game engine! This is going to be something HUGE, I can just tell!!

Ratings are based on three year splits, supposedly. Dice K has been the better pitcher the past three years.

We've got a lot of work to do to clean up the rosters.

Seriously...I'm just joking...Although I thought it was funny given our spat in the Ryan Howard thread, and all this talk about Conor Jackson.

Come to find out 2K has Adam LaRoche rated higher than Jackson defensively.

Really though...these ratings are whacky. Playing as the Nationals currently in 2K8 I looked at thier 2K9 ratings, and Zimmerman's is way off IMO; like someone else mentioned.

It's fairly obvious after years of this that 2K has like one person working on ratings. And I doubt the person is given more than a few weeks on that particular project. So the person works on the ratings of the stars, and the rest of the players are assigned generic ratings that are pulled out of the programmer's butt. Last year Giambi for god's sake was rated higher defensively than many other players and first basemen. When you go to EB and slap your money down on the counter and say "2K baseball for me, please!", you know you're taking home a game that's going to require massive ratings edits -- if you're interested in ratings accuracy that is.

To those who wonder if Pujols is that much better, i cannot think of any hitter that an entire stadium full of opposing fans fear more than that man. And even in Video games, u just dont want to make that fatal mistake...

Who cares how bad or good the ratings are. 2K never does a good job in this area. Never has & probably never will.

So with that being said everyone repeat after me.....

Oh yea...I'll have to do an "overhaul" of some ratings.

However, there is something fundamentally flawed w/ their ratings and sliders.

After popping 2K8 back in, and simming thru 2008, I decided to make some roster edits for certain players. I wanted to increase CPU steals.

In order to do so I had to increase individual player ratings; as the slider's explanation states the likelihood of the CPU stealing is based on the slider AND indivudual player's setting/ratings.

Anyone w/ more than 15 steals in 2008 (real-life) I pushed this attribute to 100; ALL the AI stealing sliders were maxed out too.

In my 1st series, a 4 game series w/ NYM, Reyes got on 1st 4 times and never once stole 2nd on me; he also reached 2nd on a couple of doubles and never stole 3rd either.

I've played numerous games against the Phillies, and Dodgers never seeing Rollins, Victorino, or Furcal steal.

In addition to "testing" the stealing sliders/ratings, I've got the injury slider at 100 and have lowered numerous players durability to "0"; such as Chipper Jones, Eric Gagne, Mike Hampton, and numerous others.

When I was done playing last night I was up to April 22nd, and there were about 26/27 teams w/o a SINGLE injured player.

I had an injured pitcher, Collin Balester, who took a hit off his knee in a game, and Chase Utley was injured in a game I played against the Phillies; he was out for a month w/ a stress fracture.

For Utley I lowered his durability to 40 (from like 65 I believe), and he was injured on a slide to second on a groundball.

Other than those two there was maybe one or two other injured players in ALL of the big leagues through almost the 1st month of the season.

                          UNSATISFACTORY.

Something I've been thinking...If injuries are poorly implemented again, and since we can control all 30 teams in 2K9. Would a solution be to go to every teams trainer and maybe max out the "durability" setting, and leave the other two settings zeroed out; injury prevention and injury severity.

                          Thoughts?

When I was done playing last night I was up to April 22nd, and there were about 26/27 teams w/o a SINGLE injured player.

I had an injured pitcher, Collin Balester, who took a hit off his knee in a game, and Chase Utley was injured in a game I played against the Phillies; he was out for a month w/ a stress fracture.

                            Thoughts?
First, you know there was an issue with steals, right? That was flat out broken last year. The injury thing I didn't know about. But it's not uncommon. EA's NHL 09 suffers from the same issue. Also, are you tralking about injuries not occuring in User games only? Because that's been an issue in plenty of other games. Not making excuses, just pointing stuff out.

Also, if you want to compare ratings and sliders and how responsive they are, compare them with The Show. 2K's player ratings and sliders are generally several times more responsive. That's one of the few areas that 2K completely > The Show.

Oh yea...I know there was an issue w/ steals, and I thought it revolved around most players "steal aggressiveness" slider being way too low. If you look at most player cards they have an "F" rating, and guys who do steal often are low B's and C's - too low.

I maxed out the Orlando Cabrera's and Chris Young's along w/ the Chase Utley's...W/ ALL the steals sliders maxed out too, but CPU steals were still nonexistent.

Actually this is really the only time you'll be able to get CPU injuries to occur at a satisfactory rate.

Ex. 2 weeks into the season there wasn't a single CPU player injued. However, after playing 3 games w/ Philly Utley gets injured, and is out for a month. I then play/sim another week and half worth of games, and never see another CPU player injured.

The silver lining, I'm hoping, is that this game is being developed by VC who has a basketball game which does injuries very VERY well.

Yeah, their defensive ratings are especially whack (there goes Coug talking about defense again). Eric Chavez looks like the highest rated 3B defensively. When was the last time he was even able to move to play defense? He hasn't been worthy of a 94 rating in over 5 years.

I do find it funny Ryan Howard is only the 7th best rated 1B in the game (tied with Ad. Gonzalez). Maybe they're not all that bad!

And to the people who say 2KShare. That's great, but somebody has to make the edits to the rosters. It would be nice to have a quality baseline to work with. Instead, any roster maker is going to have to start from scratch.
