    Re: MLB 2K9 Player Ratings

I believe knowing what players' ratings are is meaningless until we know how they work within the framework of the game.

I also think too many people are too quick to get caught up in small sample sizes. Last year through May, Jason Varitek hit .290. He hit less than .200 for the rest of the season. There can be wild swings from month-to-month, even season to season.

Simming one month, two months or a single season and picking out anomalies is futile. Dustin Pedroia hit 10 home runs his rookie season; then hit 17 last year. What would have happened if, prior to last year, people simmed a season of 2K8 and saw Pedroia hit 17, 18 or 19 dingers? They would freak about the sim engine is all wacky.

I'm not saying there is no room for improvement. There always is. But dissecting ratings from a game we have yet to play -- or sim several seasons to get a true feeling for results -- is a little silly. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, though .

I do find it funny Ryan Howard is only the 7th best rated 1B in the game (tied with Ad. Gonzalez). Maybe they're not all that bad!

And to the people who say 2KShare. That's great, but somebody has to make the edits to the rosters. It would be nice to have a quality baseline to work with. Instead, any roster maker is going to have to start from scratch.
It is really annoying to have to either wait, or do this massive edit yourself when all you want to do is get started on your franchise mode and jump into playing the game.

Don't know if anyone said this because I didn't read the whole thread but Ryan Braun is a 93, which makes me happy in pants.
