Again, I may be imagining this and I may be exaggerating, but just based on what I've been seeing lately, I really hope this isn't an issue because if it, almost all of us will resort to throwing non-stop breaking pitches, resulting in inordinate amounts of strike-outs.

Based on the videos, it seems the CPU has a difficult time hitting breaking pitches!
I could be imagining this so if I am (and you can provide visual evidence to renege my opinion) please excuse this topic, but it seems the computer AI has a very difficult time hitting breaking pitches, i.e. curveballs and change-ups. Almost every video I've seen, when a pitcher throws a few curveballs in a row, the CPU AI batter is almost always WAY ahead of the pitch. I've seen quite a number of strike-outs in the videos presented and they are almost ALL on breaking pitches that the CPU batter cannot time properly.

Re: Based on the videos, it seems the CPU has a difficult time hitting breaking pitch
Who can hit a well thrown 12/6 curve?
If the game rewards you for nailing the gesture so that your pitch is thrown in a way that catches the batter off guard, shouldn't that be the case? Also, I'm seriously thinking about prefacing all of my replies in this forum with, "Most of you must not have played previous versions because..."
As "horrific" and "toxic" and "globally unfriendly as MLB 2K8 was, the game did a great job of rewarding you when you nailed the pitching gesture. High fast balls, low and inside, even getting a low slider in that rewarded you with a ground ball, there was a great payoff.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Now, as a human batter vs. a pitcher who throws a perfect pitch, it should have no effect. The break/movement/change of speeds in the game should handle all of that. In other words if Zito drops bis best curveball, I shouldn't miss it just becuase he maxed out his gesture. I should miss it because it litterally buckeled me and I swung way over it.
Also, location should maybe have more to do with it. Most (definitely not all) off speed pitches that are swung in missed are done so because the hitter is just fooled by the timing or because the pitch breaks out of the zone. Some pitches just buckle a guy and he'll put an ugly swing on a ball, but usually it's a guy thinking the pitch is going to break over the plate and instead it breaks off the plate or in the dirt.
Another thing..I wish they would fix the physics of pitching so that offspeed pitches thrown up in the zone flatten out. Curveballs, sliders, splitters, etc. left up in the zone tend not to have nearly as much or as sharp of a break as when thrown down in the zone. I hate the fact that you can intentionally try and start a curve at a players head and have it break to the top corner of the zone. That pitch either gets hammered or doesn't break.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 02-20-2009, 12:38 PM.Comment

I actually disagree. In the devleoper walkthrough i saw some pitches break and the cpu hit them . i was like 'huh? cool!"Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

It depends. I'll agree if it is a guy who has a dirty curve, but a guy who throws just an average curve shouldn't all of a sudden become unhittable because he's got a perfect gesture behind it. Many pitchers best curveballs or other offspeed pitches still aren't very good.

Which brings online to the table. They better fix it. LOLBeing kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

In the later videos it seems to be more prolific. Is it possible it is a byproduct of Steve fiddling with sliders? He could be messing around with the batting success slider. Just a thought.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Seriously though, it was filthy in 2K8 and the AI did the same thing against it then. You could aim it damn near the top of the zone and it would break down out of the zone. The guys that throw big slow cuves in this game definitely have an advantage with that pitch against the AI.Comment

Ducherer just has an unhittable curve
