    Question:

Is there any way to use last year's pitching mechanism?

If there was one thing I loved about last year it was the pitch going where I wanted it to go being dependant upon me TRYING every time rather than pressing a button. Do I have any hope of it being fun this year?

Just thought I would point out that these post are actually by Todd Brakke, the Feisty Weasel half of the blog.

While I don't agree with everything Abner writes about sports games, he does a damn good job of reviewing them. Even if he is down on a game, I can ferret out if the issues are things that concern me. He's also a hell of a lot more thorough than the average reviewer.

It's all relative regarding the complexity however. It's like how a lot of younger doctors now think that medicine is more complex. It is in some ways (there is an overall increase in volume to know), but on the other hand we now have technology, etc. to help us come up with a diagnosis, and many more treatment modalities.
I do think that patching via the internet has become a bit of a crutch. My friends still in the business tell me that part of the problem is that resources are not channeled like they used to be to quality assurance. Most of the developers try to do the best they can, but their hands are often tied by business decisions and deadlines of course.
You make another great point.. The Sports Gaming Genre will suffer more than any other genre because of development time & off course what the upper-hands say. QA should be a priority on the list, but sometimes it's towards the middle meaning stuff doesn't get caught in time.

The other thing is sometimes fixing 1 thing in the code could cause something else to get messed-up, as you may know

After having to deal with 2k8's issues last year and now that I see 2k9 has been found to have been shipped with bugs in the game, I have gone out and found the fix to all the bugs in 2k9 and future titles in this series....I bought a PS3 today and am getting the Show...Stop supporting and handing your hard earned money over to people that don't care about you or the quality of merchandise they sell to you. Demand quality not the lies of people like Ben Brinkman and Kush Games or the excuses of VC Concepts...If 2k doesn't want to answer then start with MLB who has issued the exclusive license to the game...I find it amazing that in these tough economic times that a company would try to stick the consumers again for the second year in a row with less than a quality product..That takes brass in my opinion. I realize that not everyone can go out and just buy a PS3 so for those that are trapped in this situation, I feel for you and wish you the best in your crusade to hold these people accountable for their actions. And thank you to OS and the full timers on these forums for exposing these companies and bringing the truth to us the consumers!! Go White Sox and Yuck the Fankees!!

So 2K fires Kush and brings in a developer with a much better history. Then they put out a baseball that is 10X more solid than last year's release. Low and behold, and major bug is found. So they announce that not only has the bug been identified, but it will be patched on day one.

Yeah, 2K is really raking us over the coals!

Yesterday I played through the PS3 demo at Gamestop a couple of times, and then came home to run through the 2K9 demo a few times. To call either game better at this point is kind of stretching it. The Show is definitely not $400 better.

And seriously, after watching the videos, I'd probably import the PYS 5 baseball game from Japan if I did buy a PS3.

PYS 5 is a sweet looking game but the hassle of dealing with the language translations is too much of difference for a game that wasn't that much better than the Show 08 and probably will be the same for 09. But we'll see how the show plays when I get it...

However I have a little bit of good news (for us at least)...

I was playing as the Rays and allowed Rollins to reach first. Werth hit a grounder to Bartlett, who underhand tossed to Iwamura, who then tagged 2nd and got TAKEN OUT BY ROLLINS AS HE THREW TO 1ST! OMG!!!

My friend also witnessed it happen to him as well, but we havent been able to use to our advantage... yet.

We'll see what happens, but there's light at the end of the tunnel
                      Well there's hope, thats good...

Ya know whats even more annoying than the lack of info on this, is that a good amount of questions - already answered - continue to get answered again and again.

Can you please see if the Chicago White Sox have a road alternate uniform? It should be black jersey over gray pants. Thank you.

Thanks for correcting the record, but I was perfectly happy with everyone hating on Bill.

Also, for whatever it's worth. You (you being anyone, not Jayhawker) can say I'm just hating on the game all you like, but I've been very clear in my posts that:

                          A) I had not yet played the on-field part of the game (and I gave the reason for that as well). When I am able to get some on-field play in, I will. For what it's worth, the first game I attempted last night crashed upon heading into the top of the 9th of a 3-3 game. The screen went black between innings and never came back. So, not exactly a great first impression that. Hopefully it's a fluke or maybe my console overheated or something.

                          B) the problems I've been writing about are not going to affect those playing full seasons or exhibitions online or just want to play the 2009 season offline. I said the game, as it exists in the copy I'm playing right now, is broken for multi-season franchise players only. And as of right now, it is. If a patch comes out -on day one- that fixes FA, AI roster management and player development, then I say bravo to 2k. But I'm not exactly holding my breath over here.

Also, I didn't just point out what I'm seeing that didn't look good. Among other things, I was very clear that the sim engine is utterly fantastic in comparing results to real life 2008 data and it appears to hold up over multiple seasons. As a blog comment pointed out I did miss that save stats appear to be on the low end (league leaders in the 20 to low 30 range). Not sure what's behind that. Save percentages for the league leaders are in the 70-80% range. I'm not sure if that conforms to MLB norms, but I'm sure somebody here does and can comment. In any case, if that's the only "big" stat that's a bit off, I think that's pretty damn good.

Anyway, make of it what you will. I'm just blogging about what I'm seeing, what I like, and what I don't. Those of you reading can decide for yourselves if issues brought up bother you or not.
                          ---Todd

I haven't seen anything mentioned about the online dynasty yet. Can you play like 4 humans and the rest CPU (like in NCAA football), or is it human vs human every game?

Just to mention this again (and thanks Jayhawker)

I do not own MLB 2K9. Wouldn't know it if I met it in a dark alley. I appreciate that some of you care so much to hate by proxy, though. That's somewhat flattering.

Just to bump this post, quite a few people are curious about the rain in 2k9

Games in the rain? retractable roofs?

For example, can I start a game with the roof at the Rogers Centre open, have it start raining, then have the roof close?

                                Rain delays for outdoor parks?

Does the weather affect gameplay? Balls have less hop etc etc?
