    Re: patch # 2 announced

Just got home from a long day @ work. This is great news. As for the AI IE Issue, again credit should go to stealyerface. I was just able to confirm his findings by posting pictures of the situation after he PM'd me with his findings..

Guys let's be mindful that bashing the developer isn't helpful. Especially we want to be able to communicate with them in the future about the direction of this series

Haha I was wondering why everyone wasn't jumping all over you for saying that "you would send this to 2K immediatley", and when you told us that you had "just sent the problem list into 2K" that day.

But I know your tricks! I knew all along! Haha

joe, I was not bashing 2K. I was merely expressing my dissappointments, mainly with their PR. But I'm done complaining, as I've got it off my chest now and have moved on to a different game for now. Hopefully I'll be back in a few weeks when 2K9 gets patched.

I usually don't trust much when it comes to 2K unless I hear it straight from the horses mouth, and even then I've learned to be cautious after the empty promises they made with 2K8 patches.

No, I don't want them to rush a patch out. That's not what I said. What would have been nice is if they would have at least told us officially last week that they value our concerns and are planning to release another patch. When your game is averaging something such as a 6 in the reviews, you really should let your customers know right away that you plan to improve it. That would be a good marketing move because people who were unsure after reading the reviews would at least be willing to give the game a chance if they heard that 2K was willing to right the wrongs.

But after last year, I've seen what we can expect from 2K in terms of PR and patches, and it isn't much, unfortunately. It could be so much better than it is, but oh well. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying 2K9 on day 1 (it's my one fault, I know). But at least I have one good game to play right now until the patch (The Show). Next year, no matter how great 2K10 looks in the videos and demo, I'll wait to buy it till after it gets patched a couple times, if I even buy it at all. I'm pretty burnt on 2K games at the moment, which is too bad because I used to be a big fan of 2K7 (as I've said on here many times).

Anyway, no sense complaining about it any more. I've finally come to terms with 2K's ways and am not going to let them get me down any more. Maybe they'll surprise me in the 2K9 patch. I'll wait and see, but my optimism is low, and that's rare for me.
I tried to look over my post to find out where I said rumors and I couldn't find where I said rumors. I didn't say Ron post over here at all, either, I'm just going off links that said they were aware of the situation and working on it from Ron. KC said the same thing over and and so did bigjoe. That's three people and good enough for me. I don't consider those sources rumors, do you?

In a perfect world, all game companies would come out on day one and state that we know there is a problem and we will fix it, but it's not a perfect world. Bigjoe didn't post the thread till a week ago. Since this is the last patch for 2k, I'm sure the developers must gather all the information and determine how and when to fix the issues in a patch and what goes into the last patch.

I really don't think a week is too late to address that a patch will be forthcoming.

I don't consider my purchase on day 1 a mistake, since they will patch it. If the patch addresses the AI aggressiveness alone, then my opinion, this game goes from a 7 to an 8. Anything else they patch is icing on the cake for me.

            Re: patch # 2 announced

There was no concrete confirmation that a patch was coming until today, which is why the other 2K mods were saying there was no confirmation at the 2K forum, and the mods there were saying that any talk of a patch coming was only speculation. So yes, anything other than an official word was rumor/speculation since there were conflicting reports even from the 2K mods and even Ron himself said at one point that there would likely be no PC patch. You just can never be sure when it comes to 2K based on their track record.

Regardless, I don't want to debate about this. I'm glad you are optimistic about the patch. I'm sorry, but I'm still bitter about being lied to last year and told there was another patch coming that never came. and that's cool that you see all other fixes beyond AI agression as icing on the cake. I guess I just have higher standards when it comes to baseball games and I see so many flaws beyond the AI agression that would have to be fixed before I'd give the game even a 7.

Anyway.....Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Let's just wait and see. Until then, I'm done being negative, so carry on lads

I feel the outfielders should be their #1 concern for this patch. The sheer number of dropped/misplayed balls has actually cost me games.

                  Great news.

I have MLB 09 The Show, but I liked MLB 2K9 except for the CPU AI batting aggressiveness, and I thought they should tweak the OF fielding a little. I also would like to see the ability to turn off the arcadish stuff after you pitch, but I can live with that. I have not played the retail version, but only the demo.

When this gets fixed, I will buy the game, and post the patch on my blog for use with the Xport/Xplorer 360 for those of you without Live. I love The Show, but this would be a fun change of pace with the analog hitting/pitching (although I am glad the Show stuck with their old controls, maybe next year they should add analog as an additional option).

                    Good post

I don't see why it has to be one or the other (in terms of "loyalty") for so many people. I think 2K9 certainly can have it's merits. There are a bunch of things holding it back currently, but mostly it just feels rushed.

If they can get enough of the nagging gameplay issues(and the bigger freeze issues too) reduced, there is no reason I can't get some enjoyment from this title.

I'm holding out hope that the PC version will find ways to help with some of the indicators (love "zone" hitting, for example, but that cursor is KILLING me...lol) and some mods can help the game overall. We'll see.

Also agree about the controls for The Show. I think at least adding them as an option would only add life to the title for many people. I'm fine with the controls personally, but they could certainly be a difference maker for others.

jeffy, my post was not a direct reply to your post, it was a general statement to the community.

do you know if 2k is aware of the AI not being able to hit curveballs either? I think its a separate issue form the aggressiveness. they just cant hit one to save their lives, whihc becomes a complete money pitch. I wonder if its due to the extra large break this year..

actually they can hit curveballs. you just have to throw it enough. if you keep firing fastballs, of course they are going to be fooled by a curve. now go up and throw curves everytime. in a few batters, they will be squaring them up.

Thank you! Why is this not obvious to everyone? All anybody talks about is the AI aggressiveness, which frankly, I hardly even notice. I throw pitches just off of the plate and the CPU takes them all the time. They also take called strikes (though usually not 3rd strikes). I still practically ever walk anyone because the pitch accuracy is almost perfect, and there isn't much of a skill mechanism that would cause my pitches to go awry, but that's true of many baseball games.

But the OF dropped balls and base tagging problems HAVE to be the biggest problem. They are game breakers and there's nothing you can really do to plan for it or prevent it.
