Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
There really should be no technical limit on what a patch could fix...the only limits are time, resources, motivation, and skill. EA added motorcycles and flying Diloreans (not to mention significant physics changes) to Burnout Paradise, made is so that players actually try to tackle the ball carrier on punt returns in NCAA '09, and have released two significant gameplay patches for NHL '09, so I find it hard to believe that 2k/VC could not make a 1B touch a base after a perfectly-timed throw. (Or allow an outfielder standing under a fly ball to actually try to catch it).Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
They said the patch has been submitted for approval, so let's assume they fixed at least some of the major issues.
Here's what I don't get: So it took them, what, 2-3 weeks maximum to fix those issues, right? Why couldn't they have done this months ago while it was still in development and they still had time before the release, since it apparently isn't something that takes months to correct.
Come on now 2K, if any of us could detect these problems after playing two 3-inning games of the demo, you're telling me all this garbage wasn't detected by ANY of you guys while you were making this game?
My only conclusion is that the testing process begins after the point where it's too late to change anything in the retail version. If so, that's idiotic. Why not test it earlier? Either that or it's being tested by a bunch of chimps. It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
To many WoW players testing sports games is my .02.
NOT SAYING THERE"S ANYTHING WRONG WITH WoW!!!
Just saying get people who know the sport to test the games.
Some may do that but my guess is the majority of people testing wouldn't be as thorough as people from sites like OS. That's why it's great when developers get some involvement with OS and other sport sites.
I also understand most if not all testing has to be done in house also and I'm just giving some reasons as to why lots of things we pick up in the first 10 minutes of a game get missed in pre-release testing.
Also some of the issues are found beforehand and it's just too late to get the fix in for release.Joshua:

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
its a bug because most of the time the throw is on line and the first baseman's foot is next to the bag. Even if the ball has the runner beat by ten feet and the throw is not offline, the first baseman simply is standing off the bag. We're not talking about throws that are off line.Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
Wasn't there a year when one or two of our members here were given the NFL2K5 code to test during development by VC? If I remember correctly, they had to sign a Confidentiality Agreement. I just don't see why they can't do the same with the other sports games.
It's frustrating to know that these are the things that should have been picked up and addressed RIGHT AWAY.

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
I saw the "first base glitch" about 2X a game for the first...5-8 games I played (all exhibition).
I have only seen it sparingly since (approx. 25 games), and have not seen it ONCE in the past 12 GAMES.
I now use the LT on EVERY throw I make, whereas I wasn't using it before, also, it might be worth your while to check your fielders' throwing accuracies (for your franchise).
I saw the problem the most from Jeter, of all people. I then checked his throwing accuracy, and (I forget what it was because I edited it) it was like a 64 or something ridiculous.Arsenal | New York YankeesComment

I am totally torn here though...I only get a chance to play for about an hour a day, and I dont know whether I should just start over when the new patch comes out or just let it roll. I have a lot of guys on my team batter in the low 400's with 4-6 hr's, and I believe the patch is addressing a HR issue (too many??).
Also, I would like to earn player cards for achievements, but are any of the pre-set difficulties decent? How should I earn them, through a season, or just play single games?
Torn I tell ya...torn!Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
How come I never see this. When I first played the game if my throws got in the red the only thing it would do is over throw the ball and cause my first baseman to jump to get it, and nothing more. I never ever see my first baseman pulled off the bag for any reason.Last edited by Eddie1967; 04-01-2009, 04:24 PM.Originally posted by jim416You are the 2k Police. :)Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
Something is likely up since it's not really about offline throws, but throws that are on-target and the 1B is just not on the bag. I wish it could be pinpointed, but maybe 2K knows what the deal is since they're tweaking it.
I hope that's the case and they aren't just tweaking the frequency of off-line throws (meaning just blindly tossing in a "fix" to appease people who are seeing this), because that's NOT what the issue seems to be for most people experiencing it.Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
I think its supposed to happen every once in a great while. Thats how VC does things. Its just like the Field Goal kicker slipping before the kick, or the snap on a punt over the punters head. I just think their ratio on doing it is a bit messed up and needs to be tweaked.Comment

Re: Update from Ron about patch 2
That seems accurate to me. Jeter has pretty much been a below-average shortstop during the course of his career, no matter what ESPN wants us to believe.Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?
