only in offline play. I might have falsely assumed you were talking about offline play only. When you play online, it won't let you switch to classic hitting control.

But if you were talking about offline play, then hell yeah, give it a shot and see if you like!!

here's my method(i know no one was asking). I leave the cursor still when the ball leaves the pitcher's hand but right when i can read the pitch and figure I know where its going to end up thats when i move the cursor. I think by giving yourself less time you have less time to f the whole thing up. lol. I also have the speed really slow for now. And the cursor has really good physics, so if you are getting ground balls its because you are on top of the ball. Probably reacting to slow. I generally keep the bat below the ball because by the time i swing the ball has dropped a few inches.

This to me is the only way to play and the reason I cant get into the Show. I feel so much more in control at the plate. Its great when you get the end of the bat on the ball and actually watch it shoot down the line. You dont get that pushing in a direction and hitting a button.

You can use classic hitting online, but you have to use classic pitching as well. I played my first online game the other night and both of us used classic controls. Not sure where you set this up, as I was invited to the game.

FWIW, I also enjoy classic pitching in addition to the zone/classic hitting combo. Again it's a case of taking results over method, as IMO there is more variance in location with classic pitching. Although, I haven't used analog pitching after the patch and many are saying that it's harder to hit your spots now...

never knew that. so if change pitching to classic, it will then let me change hitting to classic as well, hey??? I'll have to check that out. Never used classic pitching, so depending on how that goes, i might not do it anyways!!!

It's hard to get the hang of it, as there are no instructions or tutorial. The longer you hold the button, the more effort you put into the pitch. You should hold it until the controller vibrates for max effort, then release the button and press it again just before the circle disappears. Your release timing is what determines the accuracy of the pitch. I've found it difficult to put it exactly where I want to, but then again, I'm just starting to play the game now as I shelved it prior to the patch...

Try out the three-step 2k8 style of pitching. R-stick for gesture, hold, and release. Make your sliders of the aforementioned G,H,R at 100%.

              Have fun!!

This cursor hitting is nothing but an exercise in futility.

Just played the 'stros as the Pirates - lost 2-1. They had 17 hits. I had... 3.

                  Struck out 14 times (!!!).

                  This is just absurd.

Re: How come more of you don't use cursor hitting?

I used to be a big cursor guy, since the days of World Series Baseball on the Genesis. Quite frankly, I didn't know this game had cursor hitting since I have only played the demo.

So there is cursor hitting AND zone hitting?

Would someone please explain 2k9's zone hitting? Is it like the Show 09's zone hitting, or is it more like MLB 2k5's?

Too bad the cursor doesn't change size based on the hitter. Heck even World Series Baseball 95 on the Genesis did this.

I already have MLB 09 The Show, but am considering getting this game as a change of pace (I have always bought both baseball games in the past). Plus, I have a 360 in my bedroom and family room as well as my home theater room, but I only have one PS3, so I could play this game when my HT room is being used (too much of a pain to unhook the PS3).
I am more excited about getting it now that I read there is cursor hitting. What do you think? Should I get this game if I already have the Show, or should I save my $60?

I am a big cursor guy, but it can be frustrating because you have to move the "bat" decide to swing or lay off. It's a lot of decision making in a short time. The reason why I like it is because I played college baseball, and it seems more like real hitting to me since you have to have good hand/eye coordination, line up your bat to the ball, and make a decision on the pitch. Plus, if you're looking low (place cursor low to be there), but it comes in high, it is hard to catch up.
Having said that, it is just a video game, and I find the zone hitting in the Show to be fun, but challenging. I liked the "zone hitting" or whatever they called it in MLB 2K5. Cursor hitting is tough because you kind of want to swing at everything. It takes a lot of practice to learn to lay off.

I played baseball for 13 years through HS - nearly went to college for it before I decided to pursue the Air Force instead. This is 100x more frustrating and a pain in the *** than swinging IRL.

LMAO. I pitched, and was never a good hitter (at the collegiate level, but I'm better than the average Joe the plumber), lol. So I think I fair better in this game.

Hahahah, it can definitely be tough. Start with a slower pitch speed and slowly increase it as you get the hang of it. Also, if you are already not doing it, use classic (button) swining with zone instead of total control (analog stick).

I couldn't pitch to save my life. I was an outfielder. LOL. I could throw hard but no accurately. LOL. Threw it long very well though.
