The amount of fielding errors I have per game is sickening. They are not scored as errors, but merely events where it is a routine pop up, and my player fails to put his glove up. I have tried the L.T. trick, but to no avail. As soon as I get control of the fielder, I know what is going to happen, it is inevitable, the ball will drop. I just lost to the Red Sox 8-0. 2 of those runs were legitimate, non error runs. The fielding is really frustrating me to the point I may stop playing, as I give up on average 3 runs a game due to this. It only occurs in left field (and yes, I have used multiple left fielders). I have lost the last 6 games due to this margin. Since it is not scored as an error, my pitchers ERAs are pretty much ruined. This is all with fielding errors on 0.

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
I guess I've been fortunate too, though. I didn't have too many fielding problems pre-patch either. The AI had more issues with the OF problems than I ever did. My only real gripe (and it is, admittedly, big for me) is the initial step by the fielder almost always being away from the ball...lol. Worse in the IF than the OF, IMO.
Other than that, animations and boring hitting are my biggest gripes with the game aside from AI, thus far. Fielding has it's fun moments at least, and pitching can be a blast when the CPU behaves at the plate...lol.
To be honest, I've put more work into setting this game up to be playable for me than actually playing it. I just can't get into it that much. Still plugging away and hoping the roster editor still in the works will breath some life into this for me.Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
Well I just got the game yesterday and I'm 8 games into my franchise and so far the errors are really pissing me off. Way too many dropped balls on simple pop-ups. I put the guy right under the ball and he has plenty of time to make the catch and the ball just slips right through his glove. These guys look like the Bad News Bears pre-Walter Matthau. Meanwhile I'm watching the AI's flawless fielding as they're diving at bullets shot through the infield and never dropping anything.Last edited by sixtydashone; 04-19-2009, 02:43 AM.Comment

It's really aggravating. I want to like the game but I don't know how much more of this I can take.Last edited by sixtydashone; 04-19-2009, 02:55 AM.Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
Hey Big-Joe, I was about to PM you because for some reason when I started my chise with the Pirates- using some custom sliders (that are very similar to allstar with a few adjustments to hitting, Pitching and fielding speed 45)- actually played awesome for the first 2 games! I won one big and lost a close one. I had a few HR's, struck out a few, had a few walks etc... Just like a baseball game is supposed to have happen. I also had NO slow down in the outfield and made some amazing diving catches! I was like holy crap!
I changed the settings to hurry up- because I can't stand the jerky animations they show as players robotically walk around the field. I also changed the fielder speed down to 45 to try and help with gap shots and IE to off. BUT to my dissapointment came games 3 & 4 and it was like a switch went off and the slow down was everywhere again when fielding in the outfield and balls bouncing off my head! Even the AI was havng issues fielding the ball and I never really noticed that before. It seems this game is a crap shoot no matter what sliders you use.
I will continue to try and play this dang thing though because I keep thinking one of these times it will magically be fixed when i fire it up! Yeah right!Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
I'm having little to no trouble with my outfielder's fielding/catching the ball. I just wish I had more control over my infielders or more time to even react on grounders. Some of the animations they go through almost cost me outs like a soft toss from a 2nd baseman when the runner is almost all the way down the line.Goozex

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
The patch changed fielding a great deal. I hated it at first, but I've adjusted now and like the changes... Easing off the stick now does nothing but stop the fielder in his tracks. It led to a several missed fly balls (and lots of frustration) during my first few games after the patch.
Sounds like I need to go back and do some fielding practice, which BTW is the one practice mode that I actually found useful. I spent about an hour doing it when I first got the game, which probably accounts for why I didn't have too many problems before the patch...Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
Here's what I do on fly balls. Example: When there is a fly ball to my center fielder, I press "A" to switch to a different fielder; maybe my right fielder. I let my center fielder field the ball by himself, and use my right fielder to run behind him in case of an error (as IRL). This has not failed for me yet.

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
I was using custom sliders in this game, and was experiencing all sorts of fielding issues.
I then went on to use the default sliders and the fielding issues magically stopped. no slowdowns, no players standing around, players aggressively going for the ball.
I then made changes only to the AI batting, made the sliders equal to my pro sliders, messed with the AI pictching success and turned the errors to 0. still no more fielding issues.
I dont know if there is a set of sliders that affect fielding. sliders broken or what.
maybe we were suppose to reset the sliders after the patch from a default position.
long story short, the fielding issues are gone. Ive played about 10 games so far after setting the sliders to a default level and making those slight modifications.Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
It's the balls in the gap that are absolutely killing me. It always switches to the guy furthest from the ball and both fielders initial break is away from the ball. By the time I field the ball, the runner is already rounding 2nd. I'm also having an issue over running fly balls and line drives. It's almost like there is a delayed reaction to your movements. This brings a lot of frustration to the game.Comment

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
The sliders theory might makes sense. I was one of those people who never any problems with fielding, but I am using a new set of sliders with my chise, and all of a sudden I'm getting an OF missing the ball, slowing down ect once every other game (coincidentally, they are bigfnjoe's so maybe that could explain his frustration too; regardless, they are awesome sliders)
Never thought it could be the sliders, but has anyone else seen default be a marked improvement? Could it be the animations breakdown at certain fielder speeds such that they don't work properly?GT: Teambayern5

Re: The FIELDING in this game is TERRIBLE....
i haven't had too many problems with dropped fly balls (when i do, it always seems to be johnny damon for some reason), but what really bugs me is when a fly ball is hit and all i have to do is run straight in one direction to go catch it, the cpu makes my player run on an angle so that i can't get to the ball to make the catch. Lost three games on that sort of thing, all late in the game against my bullpen!!!!JUST WIN BABY!!Comment
