Re: Well, after 6 months, I finally quit. . .
Well, after two years of championing 2K and their baseball game, and defending the honor of what I thought to be a fairly accurate representation of the baseball I know and love, I have officially tossed in the towel. As in, see ya, thanks for the memories 2K Sports, and have a great time with your 2K10 development team that has obviously never set foot on a baseball field, let alone played the game you portray.
My 360 RROD'd two weeks ago, and while lamenting the fact that I added my name to the list of millions who have had the "Fantastic Experience" I decided to do something crazy. I sold a brand new shotgun, and bought a new PS3 Slim with the $299 pricedrop, and grabbed the "other" game and a HDMI cable....
It has been a week since my purchase, I have played 8 full games, and I have yet to win. And with each loss, I turn off the PS3, wipe a tear from my eye, and wonder why the fizuchky I waited so long....
Looking back at my old posts and exhaustive testing of sliders with my OS pals, I was pretty tough on the PS3'ers and thier comments over here on "our" thread. Of course, I had never played the other game, and still, defended our game to the end of the line. I have reached the end of the line.
I have seen the other side.
Go to Target. Tell the dude behind the camera kiosk to put the other game in the PS3. Make mean faces at other patrons as you stand there for 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete your nine inning game. Sweat it out as your hands go cold and clammy, and you are mentally spent as you languish over every decision. Watch the adaptive AI punish your myopic decision to go through the lineup twice, and start their #4 hitter off with yet another fastball down and away.
And when the game ends, and you stand there, jaw agape at what you realize was a herculean effort to actually mimic the game we love within the confines of a console... you will find yourself at the edge of the river with a choice to make.
Spend yet another Spring hoping for a game of baseball to grace the 360 that sucks a little bit less than last year, or make the decision that is inevitable.
You work hard, you deserve it.
I will see you guys on the other side.

Re: Well, after 6 months, I finally quit. . .
Ha...that was a funny post.
Very descriptive and it's exactly what happened when we first tried LEGEND mode at Sony.(I knew I was going to be terrible and always 5 runs behind...but I was pretty surprised that Nem and Pared were also having troubles....the room was nuts when they had some close games going!)
Mistakes are pounced on....cursing is in order and yes....if a baseball game can produce tension.....it does.
I'm not going to get into a battle....nor will I claim that it doesn't still have problems....but it's a heck of a baseball game experience.

Nice post Stealyerface. It definitely caused a chuckle or two. Glad you are enjoying MLB 09. It can be addictive. I'm just grateful that I have a job and family to occupy my time or I could see myself wasting pointless hours each day with this game.Comment

I never understood why people always tend to blame the activity that you're filling up your extra time with as the problem. Isn't the problem that time you're using to fill up with gaming is "pointless" in the first place? In other words, when I was in college, etc., I might have been able to game because I had extra time, but that didn't make me resentful of the gaming itself. If you control your own time, it's totally possible to play a lot of games and still have a balanced life. But when you have a family, career, kids, etc., you don't control your own time anymore.Comment

Re: Well, after 6 months, I finally quit. . .
I have a wife and three kids. So my gaming time is at night after my wife goes to bed. So yeah, that three hours between 10pm-1am could be better served sleeping, but with my new game, and excitement that comes with any new relationship, I am utilizing that time to enjoy the new PS3.
And with three kids, I have a better chance of getting lucky with that new PS3 than I do with my exhausted wife, so I make the most of it...
I did finally win my first two games last night. A 1-0 nail-biter over the Royals with me as the Redsox pitching Bucholz. And another great win over the Royals with Beckett going 8 strong with 9k's and leaving the game with a 2-1 lead. Paps closed the door and that was that.
After feeling pretty good about myself, i called Jon Lester to the hill for a lefty-lefty battle with CC in the Bronx. And.... thanks for playing. I watched the Yankees treat Lester like an ugly adopted sister, and they put the beating on me 8-0.
Love this game.... Did I mention I love the game?

Hmm, interesting take. I was going to post that if I didn't have a job and wife, I would've run out and gotten a PS3 to go with my 360 a long time ago (but I don't have enough time to really enjoy the 360 as it is).

Re: Well, after 6 months, I finally quit. . .
I'm writing my resignation letter now. I have not played this game since about May or maybe june. With the WS around the corner and my home town team in the mix ( i live in philly), i find myself jones-ing for a game.....but one question.......did they ever fix the collision detection? Nothing ruined my enjoyment of this game more than not being able to break up a double play. it's like playing football with no interceptions.Comment

I really dislike using the sticks for pitching and batting unless they are done well like EA NHL series.Comment
