            2. are their a great variety of accessories used like arm bands and shades and sleeves?

            3. Is it actually hard to consistently get on base ( i dont want everything to be so easy). can you adjust the difficulty level?

            4. say i wanted to go to the orioles when i get called up; can i chose to play for their farm team when in the minors?

            5. What is the camera angle when running bases? ( is the camera facing your player, or home plate?)

            6. is getting a starting job in the majors based off stats more-so than ratings? ( i hate the way they do it on NBA 2k10)

            thanks
            1. Yes, it seems like the My Player editing tools are very similar to NBA 2K10. I figure they probably let you do whatever with handedness etc. as well.

            2. I didn't get to see all the accessories etc. in the game, but I do know you can edit that type of stuff on your My Player as well as real MLB players.

            3. It would be hard to answer that question at this point. I'm also not sure about difficulty level. Could you change it in the NBA 2K My Player? If you could in that I would bet you can do the same in MLB 2K.

            4. Yes, you can select where you want to start your minor league career or just be put on a random team.

            5. I only saw My Player while on first base. On first base the camera was behind your player in such a way that you could study the pitcher on the mound.

            6. I think it will have more to do with stats and completing achievements than with your ratings. The developers seemed to be somewhat bothered by the ratings versus stats issue as well in NBA 2K.

Also, hope the have the real 1st and 3rd base coaches. along with the pitching coach
In the build I played I didn't see many cuts to the field to see stuff like that. It seemed like there were more cuts to an instant replay etc. I tended to be talking to developers while playing though so it's entirely possible I missed some of that stuff while looking towards the devs between half innings.

Chase, if you could answer one more:

Can you only perform the defensive swing from the "contact" swing when you do not pull back on the stick prior to swinging or can you also perform it from a "power" swing when you do pull back on the sitck to load the swing?

Here's another question to add onto this one:

If up is for a contact swing and left or right is for a defensive swing, what happens if you flick it up + right or up + left? Is there an "in between" kind of swing with those? Is there a 45 degree line drawn so that anything flicked north of that line will be a contact swing, and anything otherwise will be a defensive swing?

And vice/versa. Did it feel like you had to work the count as a hitter, and take some borderline strikes and foul off pitches, in order to get the best pitch you think you will see for that at bat?

And is there margin of error for pitching, or when you were spot on, you hit your mark exactly?
Obviously, it's hard to say at this point, but like I said previously, I did draw some walks and threw some as well. I would say I tended to go up there with a plan and tried to really make the pitcher work, and it felt like I was able to do that to some extent. I think the pitcher/batter duel is something you really don't get a feel for for at least 10-20-30 games -- unless it's really bad then you notice within a few games because a CPU guy is not taking pitches or throwing balls etc.

Now that means I can't just change sliders to make the power swing a default swing only, because contact guys will be weaker as a result.

What this means is now I have to determine whether to consider a guy to be contact- or power-based for the most part, and this will mean that power guys will be hitting more home runs than often and contact guys may be hitting zero home runs. I just wish there would be one swing type and that's it (maybe the defensive swing as well, I guess).

And the defensive swing still doesn't make sense. Why would you predetermine whether you want to stay alive or not? If there's no load along with it, that means you have to choose to do the defensive swing beforehand. So why would you want to go up there and just foul a ball off, risking putting it in play? Makes no sense at all, and makes me wonder what kind of guys that make this game actually play baseball.

You can see it with the Helton argument. So the computer is allowed to make on-the-fly decisions with this, and that's just okay. But we are not. We either choose to load for our swing, or we don't. We can't wait for the pitch to come all the way in, then decide to do a full swing by flicking back then forth again. They really botched the control scheme for the defensive swing here, and I see no reason to ever use it as a result (except for maybe a hit-and-run).
I didn't understand the system to work like that. It's not so much that contact guys are negatively effected by using the power swing, they just have a smaller timing window to hit the ball forcefully with the power swing. And you can still hit home runs with the contact swing, you just need good timing.

As for having to decide to use the defensive swing before the pitch, I don't think you'll have to do that. You will probably have to decide before a pitch if you want to defensive/contact swing or power swing, but that seems like risk/reward. Otherwise you just flick up for contact or left/right for defensive. If you're swinging for the fences, then you won't have the chance to decide to just battle off a pitch on the outside.

And I still think you might be able to get a hit with the defensive swing, it just might be a weakly hit ball that finds a hole etc. But, really, I think it's there to just use to foul a pitch off if you're instead looking for a pitch somewhere else or maybe a ball sneaks back over the plate and you have to quickly react.

I would say it was my skills. It seems like the pitch speed is raised up a bit this year (or maybe I was just getting used to the new camera angle), so I was late on lots of fastballs -- probably did not help that I went against Vazquez and Hanson. One of my extra-base hits was nailed down the line and went to the corner, so I don't think the OFers were too speedy or anything.

Not sure about the automatic fielding question.

I was not really talking to any developers in charge of the graphical ins and outs. Not every developer knows every single thing about the game, especially not something as specific as how many different day-night transitions there are.

Yeah I know what you're talking about but I did not really notice what was happening after half innings ended, which if I remember correctly, was when a lot of the robotic stuff happened.

I loved cursor/zone hitting in 2k9 with having to move the bat cursor to the ball, and placement of the cursor/placement of the pitch dictated where the hit went. It was basically the most realistic hitting mechanic in a baseball video game...ever. I actually had realistic strike out and home run totals because of the cursor, it took skill to hit. instead of just having to time the pitch and swing, you had to guess general location and time the pitch as well, just like major league hitters do, they either guess the pitch and location depending on the count or look for one pitch in one spot. cursor/zone hitting made this all possible...and it was difficult which was awesome.

You said "Cursor hitting is still there, but I believe it hasn't changed at all. I also believe the zone hitting is now defunct as an option." In 2k9, it was cursor/zone hitting. What do you mean when you say cursor hitting is till there but zone hitting is gone?" Is the bat cursor still there but is less effective in terms of zone hitting? Please explain if you can. Thanks
I think this is my bad. Since I never used that hitting option last year, I thought they were separate entities not connected. So it's still in I would think.

If the computer hitters don't do it...game breaker. Check swings happen so often in baseball that it will really effect the realism of the game if you don't see it at all while playing. I really hope to see plate umpires checking swings with the 1st and 3rd umps, if not that's terrible.
I did not see the CPU use a check swing -- I can't say for sure whether the CPU does check swing or not, I just didn't see it during my time with the game.

If you play random exhibition/play now games the starting pitchers will actually be random (when I played both number-two starters were in once and both number-three starters began another game). Now, you can still press start during the loading screen and change the lineup and pitcher for your own team, but by default you will not always have the ace as the starting pitcher on your team or CPU.

That being said, no I don't think you can change the CPU's pitcher before the game starts.

You know, that's a good question (I never thought to try it that way). I guess you mean, can you pull back on the stick and then roll it to the right or left if you just want to defensive swing? If you can do that, then I guess you would be able to power/defensive swing or contact/defensive swing during any one pitch. I honestly kind of like the give and take of having to either commit to power swinging or going with the defensive/contact swing combo, but I also believe giving gamers options in these areas is the best thing to do, so it would please more people if it functioned like that.

Ha, so basically at what point is it considered a contact swing or defensive swing? I would probably be interested to know that as well. I think even people who have trouble pressing straight up on the stick should be able to hit the stick up enough to not get defensive swings when they're trying to contact swing though.

Yeah, I said earlier that it has to do with the database. When we select a game that is multi-platform, the PS3 icon shows up by default unless we specifically change it.

As for the hitting, I have not used anything other than the default hitting, but the cursor hitting or whatever is still there, and I assume you use the buttons for that.
