Well I just finished the first month of the season with the Mets going 12-11 in April currently the Mets are third in the NL East behind the Marlins and the Nationals believe or not, but above the Phillies and the Braves in dead last.
I've been playing and simming about 50/50 of my games, mainly pitching the Johan starts. One thing is for sure Niese is utter trash currently 0-2 in 5 starts with a 7.66 ERA while tossing up a whopping 5 homers.. Oddly enough Johan isn't running away with the best statistics of my Mets starters. Johan is 3-0 in 5 starts with a 3.63 ERA with 34Ks in 34.2 innings. However John Maine is the true surprise here going 2-1 in 5 starts with 2.45 ERA. Pelfrey has been another disappointment going 1-3 in 5 starts with a 5.88 ERA. K-Rod is 9 for 9 in save chances. Jenry Meija has turned into my setup man providing 3 Holds, with a 1.54 ERA striking out 22 in 19.2 innings.
Now for the offense, David Wright has found the stroke hitting 5 homers in the month of April, while knocking in 17 runs and is currently batting .312. Castillo is batting .350 while knocking in 14 at one point he had a 10 game RBI streak, he also swiped 7 bags. Big Free Agent Jason Bay is batting .307 with 3 homers and 14 RBIs. I brought up Jose Reyes in the middle of April and while batting lead off he's hitting .289 with 6 RBIs and has 6 steals.
I can figure to have a decent year between Santana/Maine/Perez who has been serviceable, however Pelf and Niese have been anything but consistent. I'm still waiting on Jacobs to deliver and give him another couple weeks and then perhaps call up Ike Davis.
Some stats around the league at the end of the month;
ARod - .387 12 HR 26 RBI
Mauer - .307 10 HR 23 RBI
Pujols - .344 6 HR 19 RBI
Uggla - .330 11 HR 32 RBI
Nyjer Morgan leads the league with 14 SB, Ellsbury is second with 11.
Dan Haren is 4-0 with a 1.30 ERA in 5 starts and teammate Brandon Webb is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA in also 5 starts.
It appears that the game is bugged for Tim Lincecum, he's 0-2 in 5 starts with a gaudy 7.66 ERA, also former Cy Young winner Cliff Lee is 0-2 with a 7.54 ERA in 5 starts and leads the league by giving up 8 HRs. So far Wang and Peavy are the only 2 pitchers to throw complete game shutouts.
