Yea...started a new franchise w/ the Nats. Simmed to Strasburg's debut last night. Still controlling all-30, but not editing contracts.

I had anticipated playing only Strasburg starts, but simming to June 8th resulted in A LOT of Nats losses. Currently, after beating Pitt 4-1 in Strasburg's debut, the Nats are now on a 6-game winning streak...however are 11 games under .500 and 17 games out of 1st place.

Figure I'll keep playing Nats game while on the winning streak, and since they're so far back...always fun to bring a team back from the grave.

I'm about to mid June with my Cardinals franchise. Been playing every out of division game and 1/3 of intra-division. Sit in 2nd place, 3 GB of Cubs. I feel fortunate to be in this position as Albert is on the 60day DL with a fractured finger. He has about 20 days left. I was cruising in 1st place until the injury and allowed the hated Cubs to get back into it. My offense is hitting for a high average (Holliday-2nd and Schumaker-5th in the league), but my pitching is gettin shelled. Just finished a 3 game set with the Mariners at home and beat them the 1st game 10-1....then got dominated by Rowland-Smith and Hernandez, so lost 2 of 3....had a great comeback in the last of a 3 game set at Dodgers to avoid a sweep.. Scored 5 in the 9th vs Broxton to win 7-6....got A's coming up next with Braden vs Carpenter.

Is anybody actually having fun with this game after their 1st season? I mean with no FA pool (due to the messed up contracts) and player progression still screwed up, I put the game down. Anyone actually enjoying Franchise Mode?

            Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Finally fired up my Tigers franchise, had been waiting for the ratings update.

First game against the Royals, classic pitchers duel between Greinke and Verlander. A single up the middle by Cabrera plated 2 runs early and the bullpen was able to hold on for a 2-1 win, with Valverde getting the save.

On Cabrera's single I figured the pitcher would gobble it up like he always does when I hit a grounder straight ahead, actually stood up from my seat when it got through.

Game 2 was less stressful, Porcello went 7.1 shutout innings before giving up a triple and giving way to reliever Fu-Te Ni, who handled the final 5 outs himself.

Two-run homers by Inge and Cabrera, and 2 sac flies resulted in an easy 6-0 win. Strangely after just 2 games I'm already tired of the repetitive commentary.

Currently trailing 4-3 in the 5th against Kyle Davies. Bonderman has looked bad, giving up 5 straight hits at one point. I was ready to take him out in the 4th but he responded with a 1-2-3 inning so we'll see how long he can go. A much needed encouragement from Jim Leyland seemed to do no good since he gave up back to back singles immediately following the brief chat.

Does anyone just turn the commentary off? Seriously I'm only in my first series of the season and I've already heard the same lines over and over. Maybe it gets better once a certain number of games have been played?

I am having a lot of fun playing my met franchise even if I am in last place in june. I may actually play a full season but probably no more than that. I feel for you guys who sim to get through 25 though with the game messed up in that way.

I have heard a lot of the same lines in the play by play so far lol but imo, it is just fine. The play by play is so stellar and talking about the last game or stats year to date is worth it. Much better than any other sport game I have played BUT I get why it will bore some folks. Thats gonna happen in a season with 162 games

                Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

It's not terrible commentary, but it's annoying to hear them mention that the tying run is at the plate when it's only the 2nd inning... and thus any time any batter comes up in a 1 run game the rest of the way there's the threat of the same line.

EDIT: Maybe it's the repetition of incorrect stats that bugs me. Miguel Cabrera is constantly being credited on my game as leading the AL in hits last season, except he didn't, Ichiro did.

All you have to do is control all-30 teams. Yes there are parts that are tedious by doing this, amatuer draft/rookie signings for example, but you don't have to edit contracts and can pick and choose who enters free agency. In my Phillies franchise the Rangers could not afford Hamilton, and the D'Backs couldn't agree on a deal w/ Webb so both hit free agency and became Yankees.

A Yanks lineup w/ Hamilton + Jeter, Cano, Granderson, A-Rod, Tex, and Swish is just flat out unstoppable.

Controlling all 30 really works. Like I have complete control over all of them. Sweeeeeettt!!!

I simulated a season controlling all 30 teams and well.. Theres ups and downs good news and bad news. The good news is 2k is DEFINATELY on the right track, the bad news is that they just couldnt fix franchise mode as much as they could've. This is MY OWN opinion: since I am a strictly franchise mode kind of guy when I play baseball sports games, my opinion will be biased, but I think 2k should put the majority of their time into Franchise Mode for 2k11 and keep everything else the same. I mean everything is at least up to par besides franchise mode.

                      Controlling all 30 teams:
It seems when you control all 30 teams and sim a season, you get a TON of injuries, almost one a day. When that happens you get stars rotting in the minors. Which results in no fun fixing that, 2k really just needs to fix the contracts, player progression, and improve AI trade/free agent sense (ex. The AI doesn't recognize top prospects as being top prospects. They just go by ratings, they don't take into consideration potential or age.) for next years franchise mode.

                        CINCINNATI REDS -

I have a pretty good season going so far. 7-3 after losing two of my first three games against the Cardinals.

After my bullpen sh*t the bed I decided to look for a long relief pitcher and put Laynce Nix on the block. Got Ben Sheets from the A's in the deal, so far he has come in and looked pretty decent. Might end up getting a starting job before the end of the season.

I am leading the league in HRs and I am 3rd in AVG.

                        So far so good

                          Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Well... the game totally threw me a knuckleball. My plan was to begin my Tigers franchise on pro level and once I got things figured out bump it up to all star and see how it goes.

Jumped out to begin the season 8-0, leading the majors with a team BA of .348. Was wondering if that would be enough on pro or if I should wait since my only opponents have been the Royals and Indians. Decided to keep it on pro for about 20 games, or at least until I play a full series against a good team.

Keeping it on pro, I apparently still have a lot to learn... lost 10-0 (all runs scored in the first 4 innings) at HOME against the Royals. It was ugly from the start, giving up 4 runs in the top of the 1st off Armando Galarraga. Galarraga would only last 3.1 innings, giving up 7 runs on 10 hits, raising his season era to 9.64.

Luke Hochevar owned me all day. He went complete game and only gave up 3 hits, 2 BB, and struck out 4. His season era is down to 0.56, but it's only been 2 starts for him.

Overall was outhit 19-3! I was baffled all day by Hochevar, who changed speeds and constantly kept my Tigers hitters off balance.

This game was so different than the 1st 8 games of the season I had to check twice to see if I'd accidentally turned up the skill level.

It's nice to get the first loss out of the way finally, but I didn't like it coming in this fashion. It had the feel of a "built in" loss, like no matter what I did I wasn't going to win this one. The Royals swung at everything I threw, strike zone or not, and singled me to death. I was missing the strike zone by 6 inches to a foot intentionally just to see if they'd keep swinging and they did every time, and got hits! The only time they wouldn't swing was if I threw it in the dirt... oh well on to the next one.

Yeah, I think 2k has a great solid gameplay foundation here - I get tons of great and varied games. They really need to improve franchise play for next year, youre right in saying they should focus almost all their efforts on that.

However, injuries havent been nearly as bad for me when controlling all 30, but maybe thats because I'm only simming 1 or 2 weeks at a time and playing a decent amount of games. I know if you sim for a long period of time there are more injuries than normal.

Have to agree with the sentiments about 2K being on the right track.

The progress they're making with this game reminds of the track followed by EA when they revealed the MVP Series. The first iteration was okay. The engine, gameplay, graphics, etc. were overhauled, and in spite of the bugs and glitches it was a welcome change from the Triple Play series. MVP 2004 built on the success of 2003, and the third version, MVP 2005 was an absolute masterpiece.

MLB 2K9 laid out a good foundation, and, IMO, 2K10 is a vast improvement. A few adjustments to the game - adding in some errors and injuries - would go a long way towards the advancement game. My opinion is that if they address the franchise mode then 2K11 should be outstanding.
