    So, I played opening day, and it was a nail-biter. It was PHI at WAS, Marquis vs Halladay.

    The first inning I got a leadoff walk by Rollins, stole 2nd, and then Pudge dropped a called third strike w/ Victorino and made a throwing error to first so I had runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs. I'd end up doing nothing w/ this, and it would be sometime before I got runner on again.

    Fast forward to the 7th inning, and Jason Marquis is pitching a no-hitter to start the T7th w/ Victorino coming up. FINALLY I get a hit, and Victorino hit's a base knock into left. Wouldn't end up doing anything in the inning though.

    Halladay was awesome. I absolutely love pitching w/ him. He gave up 5 hits in a CG shutout. The Nats were scaring in the 8th when Pudge singled, Willy Taveras came in to pinch-run, and then stole 2nd...but I'd end up picking him off and getting Adam Kennedy to ground out.

    So, it's the T9th, w/ the top of the order coming up, both SPs still in the game. Rollins gets his 2nd walk of the game, I use Victorino to sacrifice Jimmy to 2nd w/ Utley coming.

    Utley's 0-3 w/ 1 K and Marquis gets him to a 1-2 count, then throws to balls, and it's a full count. Two or three defensive swings later I hit a liner to center field, Rollins scores from 2nd, and that would be all she wrote for Washington. Halladay would shut them down 1, 2, 3 in the B9th and Philly wins their first game of the year 1-0.

    PHI 1 3 0
    Was 0 5 1
    WP-Halladay 9.0 5H 0BB 7K
    LP-Marquis 8.1 3H 3BB 14K 1ER

        Really. ...I didn't actually get to finally play a franchise game until about 0200 this morning. I got 3 hours of sleep last night so tonight I'll be heading to bed early...:o

        Did get my first Pirate game in while my son was napping. The Pirates won on opening day vs LAD 5-4 and checking the boxscore of that game Milledge hit a 2r HR and the bottom of my order combined for 4 RBI.

        So... gm2 of the yr was Ohlendorf vs Billingsley. Both pitched scoreless 1sts, although I got a lead off single w/ McCutcheon and could've maybe drawn blood first, but got thrown out stealing 2nd. Billingsley has such a long motion from the stretch I figured I took take 2nd w/ AMs 91 spd, but Russell Martin has an arm and thought otherwise.

        Ran into trouble in the 2nd inning...after getting ahead of Andre Either I came in too tight on a slider and pegged him. The Dodgers would later wind up socring 2 runs on 2 outs thanks to Casey Blake and Ronnie Belliard singles. However, I'd strike back in the B3rd after getting McCutcheon his 2nd hit of the game and Ryan Doumit singling him in.

        Score would remain 2-1 for most the game until the B8th inning when Garrett Jones came up. Billingsley would get pulled after a solid 7 innings and 102 pitches (70 strikes). Righty Justin Miller came on in relief...

        With such a close game (2-1), it being the B8th, and LAD having some horses in the bullpen (Troncoso, Kuo, Belisario, Sherrill) I thought this move to bring in Miller was suspect.

        He is a 72 ovr, but...anyways...Miller walks Akinori Iwamura, and w/ Garrett Jones, who was 0-3 on the night w/ a K, Miller falls behind 3-0 tries a get-it-across FB and I sent it sailing into the night (opposite field) for my 1st HR w/ the Pirates. Pirates were now leading 3-2 and even better there's no out. However, Joe Torre would finally bring in an arm and George Sherrill stopped the bleeding... but the damage was done. I warmed up closer Octavio Dotel, and was facing the 6th, 7th, and 8th LAD batters in the T9th.

        I got Loney striking out swinging, then on a 2-2 count Casey Blake singles to left, but Ronnie Belliard would end the game on a 3-6-3 double play.

        Pirates protecting home vs the Dodgers! 2-0 on the season...Could be their year......both wins coming in one run games BTW.

        EDIT: Some numbers....

        Ross Ohlendorf went 7 innings throwing 84 pitches, and getting the ND. Joel Hanrahan pitched a scoreless 8th and got the W; w/ Octavio Dotel getting his 1st save as a Buc.

        McCutcheon was 2-3 w/ 2 1Bs and a run scored.
        Doumit was 1-3 w/ an RBI single.
        G.Jones was 1-4 w/ a 2rHR.

        Only XBH Dodgers managed was a 2B by Russ Martin. Dodgers finished w/ 2 runs on 7 hits, and the Pirates 3 runs on 9 hits; Kemp/Furcal combined to go 0-8.

          Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

          Started up my Cubs dynasty the other night, and just finished up editing the contracts last night. My first order of business was to cut ties with Carlos Silva, released him and saved some money.

          I am going to play probably around half of spring training because there are quite a few spots that are up for grabs. None of my regulars will play besides Geovany Soto. Already played two games, won the first one 10-7 and lost the second one 7-3.

          At second base, there's Jeff Baker and Mike Fontenot. Jeff Baker is 0-9 so far, and Mike Fontenot is 4-7.

          In Right field there's Xavier Nady and Kosuke Fukudome. Fukudome has just come out of the gate swinging, 6-9 two doubles and a homerun. Xavier Nady has been good, I think 4-9 no extra base hits though.

          Backup firstbaseman/main pinch hitter duties is between Chad Tracy and Micah Hoffpauir. Hoffpauir is 1-4, and Tracy is 2-4 with a double.

          Backup infielder/pinch runner is either going to be Andres Blanco or Bobby Scales. Scales 2-2, Blanco 1-2 with a double.

          The 5th spot in the rotation is between Sean Marshall, Tom Gorzelanny, Jeff Samardzija and a minor leaguer. Marshall and Gorzelanny have both given up 5 runs in their starts.

          There's about 8 or 9 guys who could fill the 4 open spots in the bullpen.

          Edit: Oh year, forgot to mention. Bobby Scales earner the W in the first game

            Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

            Remember what I said about my official franchise being a Yankee/Rockie one? Yeah, I decided I wanted to focus on one team only, so I restarted and chose only the Rockies this time.

            Opening day I killed Yovanni and the rest of the Brew Crew's pen in a 12-2 victory. After running into trouble in the 1st, Ubaldo was lights out the rest of the night, and had 9 ks through his 7 innings of work.

            I super-simmed and won the next game 4-3, with some help from Ian Stewart, who smashed a 2-run homer in the 3rd.

            Final game of the series I simmed again and got destroyed 9-0, with Aaron Cook only lasting 1.2 innings

            Next up I take on the Padres at home. Ill update when that series is over.

            Quick Stats
            Ianneta has 3 homers already and 7 RBIs.
            Barmes is batting over .500
            Tulo is really struggling, batting .137 or so with only 1 RBI.

            And in terms of personal moves, I could use your guy's opinion.

            Should I start Carlos Gonzalez or Seth Smith in LF? Gonzo has a 66 contact and a 67 power against righties, but Smith has a 72 contact and 73 power against Righties. I really like Gonzo, but I really like Smith too and he just seems to be a bit more productive. Im not sure what to do.

              Who has the better range? More speed? Better arm? Gotta consider that too...

                Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

                Gonzo has more speed/range and a better arm, but that brings up my next dilemma: The ideal OF would actually be:

                LF - Seth Smith
                CF - Carlos Gonzalez (He actually can hit a bit better than Fowler, and is almost as fast)
                RF - Brad Hawpe

                But I dont think I like benching Fowler

                I think I'll eventually need to decide which one of these guys is the "least able" to start, and then use that said player as a trading tool.

                  But anyway. Controlling 1 team Red Sox. Played 3 games, simmed 5, only playing Beckett and Lester's starts. Starting off with Sabathia pitching at Fenway against Beckett, the Yanks beat me in a pitchers duel

                  Yankees 2

                  The only runs of the game were a 2 hrs hit by Drew (solo) and Martinez (2-run jack).

                  Lester throws 7 shutout innings while Okajima fights out of shutout threatening danger in the 8th and after giving up a lead off single in the 9th, Papelbon strands a runner on third to take his 1st SV of the season.
                  Currently sitting at 4-4

                    Managed to take 2 of 3 from the Padres - first game was a thrilling 4-3 victory in 11 innings with a walk-off Brad Hawpe double

                    I really like my sliders right now. I get a great variety of games.

                    After losing the 2nd game 2-0, I closed out the series by clubbing them in a 11-4 victory. Ian Stewart had a couple of homeruns this game

                    Next up are the Mets, who havent won a game yet. Hopefully I can take 2 of 3.

                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                        Got in one game tonight after watching "Everybody's Fine" w/ my wife. Couldn't complete the sweep of LA as they hit me hard and won 5-2. Dodgers had 17 hits: 15 singles, 1 double, 1 triple.
                        SP Paul Maholm gave up 11 hits over 5 innings, walking two, striking out 3. Dodgers sent out Hiroki Kuroda and he pitched a marvelous 7.2 giving up 8 hits, 2 runs, walking 2, and k'ing 7.
                        Kemp followed up an 0-4 game w/ a 3-5 game. Driving in a run on a triple, stealing a base, and scoring a run himself.
                        The lone bright spot for me was Akinori Iwamura who went 2-3 w/ an RBI single and a walk.
                        I'm 1-1 w/ Pitt; 2-1 on the season w/ Pitt.
                          Mets record was 0-6 coming into my series. Ill update later on how that turned out.
                          Also, I just moved my hitting sliders down to 45 for both contact and power, they were at 50 for a long time while I got used to the timing of most pitches. I also have the CPU's strike zone tendency down to 45, because I thought they were throwing a bit too many strikes. I may move it down to 40 actually.
                          What I found that also helps with extra base hits (which dont happen as often on default settings) is to move the fielder speed for the user and CPU down to 20. It disables achievements and trading cards () but I think the game plays better this way.
                            Also, I just moved my hitting sliders down to 45 for both contact and power, they were at 50 for a long time while I got used to the timing of most pitches. I also have the CPU's strike zone tendency down to 45, because I thought they were throwing a bit too many strikes. I may move it down to 40 actually.
                            I've been playing w/ the CPU strike tendency at 35/40. It's the only way to go. My issue w/ XBHs isn't a fielder speed thing, I haven't given too many balls a ride or hit a gapper. Again, I'm playing as the Pirates and there's a shortage of bats, but I did jack a 2rHR w/ Garrett Jones so I know I can hit for power.
                            As far as my franchise is going though I'm glad that I edited all-30 contracts. After playing two games w/ Pitt I realized I didn't have a lefty arm coming out of the pen. I went to the FA pool to see about signing someone like Joe Biemel, Scott Eyre, or BJ Ryan but the most I could offer was $400K and none of those guys were interested in that small an offer.
                            So I had to promote from within, which seems more like a Pirates-type move anyways. Moved Vinny Chulk to AAA and called up LHP Brian Burres.
                              4-4 huh...Not quite what you expected so far? Have you been able to get Ellsbury on and steal a lot?
                              What's the Mets record? Also what are you using for user contact/power?
                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                              Got in one game tonight after watching "Everybody's Fine" w/ my wife. Couldn't complete the sweep of LA as they hit me hard and won 5-2. Dodgers had 17 hits: 15 singles, 1 double, 1 triple.

                              SP Paul Maholm gave up 11 hits over 5 innings, walking two, striking out 3. Dodgers sent out Hiroki Kuroda and he pitched a marvelous 7.2 giving up 8 hits, 2 runs, walking 2, and k'ing 7.

                              Kemp followed up an 0-4 game w/ a 3-5 game. Driving in a run on a triple, stealing a base, and scoring a run himself.

                              The lone bright spot for me was Akinori Iwamura who went 2-3 w/ an RBI single and a walk.

                              I'm 1-1 w/ Pitt; 2-1 on the season w/ Pitt.
                              Definately not what I expected, and yes, I have gotten Ellsbury and stole I believe 2 bags and got caught twice. (one was a pickle, got hung up between 1st and 2nd) But on the year he has 6 SB which is tied for the 2nd most in Baseball, Julio Borbon leads.
                              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

                              On a seperate note, just finished a game against the Rays @ Fenway.

                              Beckett took the mound and gave up a leadoff single to begin the game. Crawford then proceeded to steal 2nd, so there is a runner on 2nd no outs. The Rays wouldn't do anything with that.
                              To make a long story short, Beckett would give up 9 hits in 6.2 IP. He ran into trouble in the 4th and 5th innings stranding 2 runners on. Youk would hit a solo shot in the 3rd which looked like to be the only run the game would see at the time, as both pitchers looked strong. Going into the 6th it was 1-0 Sox, until Victor Martinez stepped to the plate. And with Youkilis on 1st, hit an opposite field shot over the Green Monster. A batter later Shields gave up a single and that was the end of his day.

                              Beckett would go 6.2
                              I then brought in Ramirez to finish the seventh and face the 1st batter in the 8th Okajima then slammed the door in the 8th and a 1,2,3 9th led to a Papelbon save which completed the combined SO.
                              Currently 6-5 on the year

                                Updating contracts to correct amounts is the way to go, more realistic, and a challenge. How you handle arbritration years? I am in process of doing all teams, using cots as reference.
                                Also what sliders you guys using? here on OS or your own.
