    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Played my first 'chise game tonight. Rolling with the hometown team, I (the Jays) got absolutely shut down by Rich Harden. 12 K's, 8 innings of work, 4 hits. Lost 3-0. Andrus hit an inside-the-parker when I dove for a catch when I shouldn't have. Solid game, however.

Couple of oddities. Chris Davis won player of the game, when Andrus was 4-4 with a homer and 2 RBI's, and 2 runs, AND Harden was terrific. Also, for the top three plays of the game, a double play turned by Alex Gonzalez was ranked third and first. Weird.

Oh well, hope to beat up Scott Feldman tomorrow.

In spring training, I made one trade. Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, and Jesse Litsch for Kyle Blanks, Chris Young, and Chase Headley. I was offered that trade except without Litsch and Headley involved, but I needed third baseman so I included Headley.

I then turned around and traded Chris Young to the Twins for Francisco Liriano via Trade Finder.

Ehh, I don't really want to take advantage of the cpu. He is underperforming, and has a humongous contract, no one would trade any prospects for him.

One thing I would think about doing is trading him for another underperforming player with a big contract(someone like Zito, or Vernon Wells). But, I'm hoping for him to rebound and I will give him plenty of chances before I decide to part ways with him.

You didn't put Volquez in the minors? I don't think he's expected to pitch anytime soon. I left Chapman in AA. However, I'll probably call him up by May.

          Yea the P.o.G is broken.

I'd hold onto Soriano then because Zito or Wells are worse players w/ equally bad contracts.

Any more thoughts? I'm thinking about renting this and possibly buying it just for Franchise, mainly the ability to edit budgets and to have semi-working Free Agents and trading AI. Are the people that have edited this finding that it's working pretty well?

How about trade logic in general and offseason free agent signings?

JB, any chance that the Blue Jays prospects (Aumont, Gillies, Ramirez) that were traded to the Phillies are represented in the Blue Jays organization? Haven't check to find out myself and I was wondeirng if during your editing journey you found anything

I don't really care about pre existing injuries, I just have the rosters as they would be if no one was injured. Also, the cpu was the one to decide to put Chapman as the 5th starter. When I made him, I placed him in the minors, but the cpu decided to keep him on as the 5th starter when spring training ended.

Yeah, I probably will. And like you said, I'd rather have the better player. I figure Soriano will come around at some point.

                  Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Could Brad Lidge pick up a 1-0 save in Houston?

Had a very good pitchers duel going on w/ Halladay and Oswalt. Chase Utley got it going too as he finished a triple shy of the cycle. Oswalt made that one costly mistake though which was the solo shot he gave up to Utley in the 4th.

Halladay got into a couple jams, but I was able to rely on that nasty sinker of his to enduce the grounder and get outs. Chase Utley had a game saving play in the 7th w/ runners on the corners. I uploaded to my 2K page. He made a jumping catch to rob 3B Pedro Feliz from a single which would've tied the game.

I had to lift Roy in the T8th since he was due to lead off the inning. Couldn't get a run across though as Victorino kept the inning alive, but Utley who was 3-3 up to his last AB lined out to 3B.

The Bridge to Lidge (Ryan Madson) was solid in the 8th getting a 1, 2, 3 inning. Couldn't get anything done in the T9th. Ryan Howard got robbed on a single to lead off the inning on a diving catch by Michael Bourn. Polanco would single next, but Ibanez struck out, and Ben Francisco, starting in place of the struggling Jayson Werth would line out to end the T9th.

So it was onto Lidge....I was nervous, ain't gon lie. I made quick work of SS Jeff Keppinger, and then while ahead in the count vs Berkman, I hit him w/ a slider that came in too far. Berkman was lifted for PR Edwin Maysonet, and I was thinking "Great I just wasted a Halladay start". But Lidge would retire Lee and Pence, and save the game.

                  Box:
                  PHI - 1 7 0
                  HOU - 0 6 0
                  WP: Roy Halladay 7IP 6H 0BB 2K (65 pitches)
                  LP: Roy Oswalt 6IP 5H 2BB 3K (93 pitches)

Carlos Lee doubled twice for Houston, and Michael Bourn doubled once. Unfortunately there were no runners on or in scoring pos. when they hit their xbh's. The 7th was almost doom for Halladay, but I was able to go to that sinker and get outs. I'm going to pitch Hamels next start too...

I saw Brad Lidge was a 69 overall, but I didn't look at his pitch ratings, I assume he's much less effective this year? If so, it's gotta suck not having a closer who you can be confident in when you just have a 1 run lead.

Actually he's so far 3-3 in save opps; 2 of those from simmed games. I never edited him, and on my roster he's a 74 ovr. His composure is a 50 and his fastball are hittable (64, 60 rtg). If he does struggle my first step is moving Madson to the closer role. He's an 80 ovr and has 3plus pitches.

As it stands vs the Nats right now it looks like I won't be needing the services of Brad Lidge as I just put up 8 runs in the B5th. John Lannan was throwing a no-hitter to begin the inning, but just unraveled after he was ahead in the count and hit Howard trying to come too far inside.

Here's the gametrack from that inning:
                      -Ryan Howard HBP.
                      -Jayson Werth strikes out swinging.
                      -Ibanez singles, Howard to third.
-Polanco doubles, Howard scores, Ibanez to 3rd.
-Brian Schneider singles. Ibanez and Polanco score.
-Cole Hamels sac bunt. Schneider to 2nd.
                      -Rollins singles, Schneider scores.
                      -Victorino singles, Rollins to 2nd.
-Utley doubles. Rollins scores, Victorino to 3rd.
-Howard homers. Victorino and Utley score.
                      -Werth grounds out.

*Jayson Werth got 2 of the 3 outs that inning. I'm really struggling w/ him.

Back to Lidge though...if he does struggle and Madson can't get it done I'll look to trade for Heath Bell since he's been rumored on the block irl.

EDIT: Final score on this game was 8-1. Nats got a solo HR from Zimmerman in the 8th inning. With Hamels at 85 pitches after 8 innings, and a 7 run lead I opted to get Chad Durbin some work in the 9th. He gave up a hit, but closed the game out.

                      Howard finished 1-2 w/ a BB, 3-r HR, and 2 runs scored.
Catcher Brian Schneider was the player of the game going 2-4 and knocking in 2 important runs before Howard was able to blow it wide open w/ the 3-run shot.

Hamels struck out 3 over 8 innings giving up 9 hits, 1 ER, and 1 BB.
Lannan was untouchable through 4 innings, and had thrown 5 K's before the 5th, finishing w/ 6, but he just unraveled. I guess Philadelphia just needed to play their first home game of the year to REALLY get things going.

I use the default rosters, so that's probably why there's the difference(and he's actually a 70, not 69). Nice to see he hasn't struggled so far, but it is always nice to have someone you can plug into the closers role like Madson.

                        Very nice.

Also, good idea about Bell. I wouldn't be suprised to see him get traded this year in real life, especially if the price is right.

One thing I love about the franchise mode, is that it tracks mlb and team records. Saw that Jerry Hariston Jr. broke the Padres record for walks as a batter in one game on the mlb.com page in my franchise.

I just had a really strange game vs St Louis. It was Wainwright vs Santana so I figured runs would be tough to come by. I scratch one out in the top of the first after a walk to Reyes, a single by Castillo and then 2 sac flies. I get two shutout innings from Santana and in the top of the third Reyes draws another walk to start the inning, then a single by Castillo, then Pagan hits into a double play, but in an effort to do a take out slide I hit the wrong stick and send Reyes home by accident and the cpu ignores him and he scores. Anyway, the inning ends with me up 2-0, so bottum of the 3rd, Wainwright is set to lead off and for some strange reason they pinch hit for him. After that the wheels fell off for the Cardinals and I went on to win 9-4
