    Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Well I'm doing a franchise with the tampa bay rays. I'm 11-4 so far and my young pitchers are pitching fantastic and getting far into games so my weak bullpen doesn't have to pitch to much. I have james shields as my ace. I like his experience more for my ace and he is 3-0 with a sub 2.00 era. Manny is leading the team in HRs with 6 so far. I have the minnesota twins up next

Good to see McCutchen coming out of his slump. I can only imagine how hard it must be to play as the Pirates with him struggling AND Alvarez out.

It has been tough. McCutchen has been dropped to 7th in the order for about 15 or more games. Alvarez was carrying a big load, but other guys were getting it done too on different nights....

Neil Walker has been swinging a hot bat, and has saw a major jump in his ratings - contact was at 76 for both right and left handers, but has jumped 12 overall pts to an 88 from both sides of the plate while power has jumped 14 overall pts to stand at 73 vs righties and lefties. His overall rating at default is an 80, but he's currently playing at an 89's level.

Walker's been hitting 3rd since Alvarez went down w/ an injury, and has responded. In a total of 152 ABs he has 43 hits as follows: 13 doubles, 5 triples, and 3 HRs driving in 17 RBI...his K:BB still leaves a little something to be desired as it is 37:7....his glove work is still in need of improvement too, but his bat is really producing.

            I am 17-19 and am in gm2 of a 4-gm set w/ the 15-21 Dodgers.

However - It's looking like I might go 17-20 as the Dodgers have a 10-5 lead heading into the top of the 8th. Neil Walker just hit a SAC fly to bring it to 10-5. I was leading at one point 4-0.

              1-Team / Pirates Franchise

              Got in two games tonight...

First was gm2 of a 4gm set w/ the Dodgers. Lost 10-5. Already mentioned happenings in this one. Brad Lincoln was Pittsburgh's starter. He was decent through 5 innings, but walked 2 to being the 6th and got lit up in the 6th. Dodgers never looked back, and Billingsley got the W despite having a poor outing himself.

Followed that one up w/ a nailbiter which saw this gutsy Pirates team take the W w/ a 4 run bottom of the 8th. With Joel Hanrahan out Evan Meek would get a shot at his 2nd Save of the season. He would K Jamey Carroll pinch hitting for the pitcher, allow Furcal to reach 1st, but then Meek got a big K of Matt Kemp who had just been killing me this series so far. With 2 outs and a runner on 1st, Meek faced off w/ Andre Etheir and on a 2-2 pitch got Etheir to ground out to 3rd baseman Josh Fields.

ANDREW McCUTCHEN was the player of the game!

With 2 outs and Jonathan Broxton on for a 5 out Save, McCutchen came to the plate w/ the tying and go ahead runs on 2nd and 3rd. McCutchen was 0-3 to this point w/ a K, ground out, and infield fly out. But on a 2-1 pitch he would send a single up the middle which would score Ryan Doumit from 3rd and Josh Fields from 2nd. Game time!

Game 3 was pretty taxing on my bullpen. I trotted out 7 pitchers as Brian Bannister only went 5 innings w/ his 84 pitches - he walked 3 batters.

Lefty Scott Olsen gets the ball in game 4, and hopes to get a win and take the series 3 games to 1.....

EDIT: Was taking a deeper look at my schedule just now, and from May 6th to May 22nd the Pirates play 17-straight games without a day off. I've played 7 of those 17 so far.....If only fatigue was working properly....yikes....

                Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

                Seattle Mariners Franchise
Record - 15-13 (3.5 GB of the Rangers)

Through the first month of the season, I am having a blast with my M's franchise. While playing most games (simming the final game of each series), I have kept my head above water and only trail the the red-hot Rangers by 3.5 games.

The first month of the season can be summed up with the following...MY BULLPEN SUCKS! David Aardsma has 12 saves (3 BS) and an ERA of 9.39. Aardsma has surrendered at least 1 run in 11 of 17 appearances (15.1 IP). Justin Miller has been good lately, lowering his ERA to 8.05 (down from somewhere north of 15). Brandon League (2.08 ERA), Chris Ray (2.25 ERA) and Dan Cortes (2.51 ERA) have all been solid, but they have also had their struggles holding leads late in games. Aardsma is now on a very short leash with any bad outing leading to League getting the closers job.

Here are some notable stats so far:

                Ichiro - .304/.360/.374
                Franklin Gutierrez - .316/.371/.596 - 6 HR - 20 RBI (Both team highs)
                Justin Smoak - .306/.375/.486 - 2 HR's (missed 10 games with injury)
                Jack Cust - .342/.400/.575 - 3 HR's - Mostly vs RHP
Milton Bradley - .315/.362/.519 - 3 HR's - (Mostly as DH vs LHP and spot starts in LF)
Michael Saunders - .258/.294/.412 - 2 HR -(Bat is starting to heat up)
                Chone Figgins - .297/.317/.347
Matt Tuiasosopo - .333/.404/.600 - 4 HR (second highest on team. Filling the UT role and getting starts at 1B in place of an injured Smoak, Tui has been on fire in 45 April AB's. Called up from AAA when Adam Kennedy went down with a groin tear.)

Miguel Olivo, Brendan Ryan and Jack Wilson are all hitting under .200 (although, Olivo does have 4 HR). Hopefully they get above the Mendoza line sometime in the near future. Getting some production from the bottom 3rd of my lineup would be a big boost.

                Felix Hernandez - 2-1 4.01 ERA - 33.2 IP (5 GS)
                Erik Bedard - 3-0 0.88 ERA - 30.2 IP (5 GS) Yeah, that is not a typo. 0.88 ERA!!
                David Pauley - 0-1 3.56 ERA - 30.1 IP (5 GS)
                Jason Vargas - 1-2 4.84 ERA - 22.1 IP (4 GS)
                Michael Pineda - 3-0 2.96 ERA - 23 IP (4 GS)

If I can start getting more consistent outings from my bullpen, I think I may be in this race all season long. So far, both the A's and Angels are struggling so it could quickly become a two team race. Aardsma is on a very short leash. If he continues to struggle, I might be forced to go to League or the dreaded "closer by committee." The only problem with League is that I struggle to consistently throw strikes with him so using him in high leverage situations is always tricky.

Only a couple of "major" injuries so far. Adam Kennedy went down with a groin tear. Doug Fister is on the 60 day DL with a UCL tear. The rest have been relatively minor.

Craziest note so far: Jay Bruce is guaranteed to be a 90 after one year of progression and becomes a 95 after year 2. Making him a 95 rated LF by age 25. Oh yeah, his speed goes up to like 89 and his gold glove caliber D gets even better. Hes done this in my franchise and my My Player, both are in season 3, 2013. Grab him up if you can in your franchise, since hes only a 84 in year one. Jay basically becomes a 40-30 player in two short seasons, definitely a big piece to someones WS run puzzle.

How are they going to grab him up since he is signed for the next 5 years?

Started the regular season of my Reds franchise last night and lost to the Brewers 6-5.
I made a huge baserunning mistake in the 9th or it would have been tied. Janish on 1st with no outs and Stubbs hits a rocket off the CF wall. Janish ends up scoring to make it 6-5 and Stubbs has an easy triple with no outs. But for some reason Stubbs tries to score even tho the SS has the ball when he just gets to 3rd, (I wasnt controlling Stubbs as I was controlling Janish to make sure he scored) he is out easy at the plate. Next two guys K and I lose.

                      Update on my Oriole's Franchise:

After month and a week into Year 2, my Oriole's are in 2nd place at 16-10. Unfortunately, the Yanks are 18 - 9 Damn Yankees.

Only one significant injury so far, which was one of my SPs out for 4 months. Luckily, in the offseason, I planned for such a catastrophe and signed a few serviceable LRs to plug the gaps in the starts.

I did have a weird rotation issue come up. Basically it seems one of my starters skipped a start so my "sim 5, play one" mode was a bit screwy. I had a day off in the middle of that stretch, which makes it all the more a mystery. I didn't have a chance yet to delve in deeper, but it seems like my manager (new this year, yer outta here Schowalter ) is totally mismanaging my starters by bringing them in as RPs and leaving them in for longer than necessary.

Side note: Vlad still has it. He's ripping the cover off the ball. That, coupled with Adam Jones, AL MVP Mark Reynolds, and newly annointed "Stud" Mark Weiters, my lineup is looking pretty solid.

Now if I could just get some decent starting pitching

                        Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Ok, so I started over completely with updated minors rosters (for the most part).

I've also chosen 4 teams to play as:

Colorado Rockies (I've always played a franchise with them, ever since 2k7)
Florida Marlins (Like they're team + I played as them last year)
Oakland A's (young, + great pitching = nice team to use)
New York Yankees (Favorite team )

So some quick updates, I've only played the first couple of weeks of the season, primarily with the Rockies and the Marlins.

                        Rockies

Played opening day against the D-Backs and won easily, 7-1. Unfortunately, Ubaldo went down in the 8th after pitching a spectacular game and is now out 6-8 weeks with a groin problem. Totally sucks. I'll deal with it though.

Next game was a wild one, I ended up losing 13-10 in 13 innings. I had been down 8-2 entering the 6th inning of the game but I ended up taking a 10-8 lead heading into the 9th. Unfortunately, Huston Street blew the save and I had to go into extras. I had exhausted a lot of my pitchers, and was forced to use some 62 long relief scrub I had just brought up from AAA. He pitched fine for two innings before imploding in the 13th and allowing 3 runs, giving Arizona the game.

I simmed the next game, which I won 5-3 and therefore took the series 2 games to 1.

Next up was a 2 game series against the Dodgers. Game 1 I won 6-5 on a walk-off sac fly from Tulo. This game I had another lead, 5-0 after 6, but once again blew it. Thank god I ended up winning though.

Carlos Gonzalez has been great for me. Love his ability to hit. Tulo aint bad either, and I've been surprised by how well I'm doing with Chris Ianneta.

The only real problem the Rockies seem to have (in this game anyway) is a somewhat average pitching staff. I can hit with their hitters, but the staff could use some work.

                            1-Team / Pirates Franchise

Staved off what would've been my first sweep, and salvaged a game of a 3-gm set on the road in MIL. Grienke and Pitt starter Brian Bannister battled through 7 innings w/ the Pirates taking an early 2-0 lead. However, the Brewers climbed back into in the B7th, finally getting to starter Brian Bannister.

Game would head into extra innings, and with 2 outs and Neil Walker at 2nd Garrett Jones got a 1st pitch fastball from John Axford that he sent sailing to nearly dead center, Pirates up 4-2.

Evan Meek, filling in for injured closer Joel Hanrahan, took the ball in the B10th and sat down Corey Hart, Prince Fielder, and Ryan Braun in order.

                            Was a great win!

Lost Ryan Doumit for a month though.

That makes 5 players on my DL. 3 more than anyother team.

                                AI traded Pujols to Pittsburgh
<hr style="color:#393939" size="1"> I just was playing my Closer (Seattle) in career mode, and saw Pujols listed under Pittsburgh, i was like WTF?!?!

Pujols, Schumaker, G. Laird for A.McCutchen, Tabata, Ceneno.

As someone from Pittsburgh, i just found it very sad and hilarious seeing this unlikely scenario.

And Pujols is on the last year of his contract. It's not out of the realm of possibility. If you don't think that, then you don't follow sports transactions well enough.

it should be noted again, no, this trade will never happen for either side, and YES it is out of the realm of possibility.
                                just from Pitt's perspective :
Pittsburgh will never trade their 2 young kids for a 1 yr Rent-a-player.
Pitt would be at least in the playoff hunt to sign to sign him, which is laughable.
Pujols would never re-sign for a bottom dweller like Pitt.
I can even see him holding out if this trade even happened.(not sure if he has a no-trade clause)
Pitt would never pony up that amount of cash.(Pitt would have to pay at least 1.5-2 times as much as teams like NY to sign him anyways)
Pitt doing this so they can get some more buzz and fans in the stadium for 1 year? even the Pirates aren't that stupid.

sure, i can see it from St.Louis's perspetive if they gave up on resigning him, but if you follow sports transactions At All, u know it's more probable to see Pujols ending up with St.Louis Rams.
