    Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Finally started my Marlins franchise. I'm an Indians fan, but I'm a little sick of controlling them every year.

I decided to make my first start with Vazquez in game three. Got off to a tough start early on. I went 4 innings with Vazquez, gave up just two hits, but walked 3 guys. He was nailed by a line drive in the second inning, but powered his way through it. Then facing the first batter in the 5th, he hurt his shin throwing a pitch. It looks like he will be out for about a month. (Kind of a blessing since there are a few guys that I felt bad sending to AAA.)

Anyways, won the game 5-2. It took a few innings to get some runs up, but I was patient and wore down Mets starter DJ Carrasco. I'm not sure why they are starting him, but oh well.

Woot!! Drew 5 BBs last game and pounced on poorly executed pitches. I am now 6-3. Depending how I do in Seattle I may bump up the difficulty to all star.

HUGE difference when you can decipher a ball from a strike.

      Loving this game so far.

Now My ST record is now 11-6 after dropping a 5-1 decision against Atlanta. I now have Kyle Drabek scheduled to come off the disabled list, but I can't figure out how to take players off the disabled list manually.

Another game, another loss. This time, a 3-2 decision against Boston to drop my spring record to 11-7. And Drabek is now off the disabled list and back in my rotation after I selected auto-manage injury when the prompt came up after the game saying Drabek was healed and ready to come off the disabled list. Next game is against the Tigers

Starting rotation looks really solid. And the back end of your pen looks great too.

Middle relief looks light to me, but if your starters stay solid you shouldn't have to rely on them too much.

Lineup has nice pop in it as well as some contact. Although some of your players are a bit older and may break down on you over the long haul.

As a lifelong A's fan I can tell you I'd love to see that much power in Oakland to back great pitching. I'd say you've got a shot with what you put together.

              Have fun!

Aside from Bourne there's not much speed. Solid defensively though. Aside from ARod and Stanton I don't think the lineup is all that great. Zobrist is ok too, but up the middle is weak and a one trick pony.

Currently 6-4 with the A's, just lost my last game 7-4 to the Chisox. They're a tough team to play, tons of phenomenal hitters.

After the game though Josh Willingham went out with a broken toe, now on the 15 day DL

I'm really liking how the game plays so far, just wish they had actually meant it when they said they improved AI Manager logic. Still seeing questionable decisions by them, but oh well.

I bet the ChiSox are tough. That's probably a fun matchup.

As for managerial decision making...I dunno...

In my opening day game w/ my Pitt franchise, Garza was hitless/scoreless through 4 but his pitch count was high for 4 innings of work, and in the 5th he gave up a 2 Run HR to Pedro Alvarez that tied the game. He would've lead off in the B5th, but instead was pulled in a 2-2 game and having thrown 67 pitches; 2 walks.

I can see that happening in real life, considering the pitch count, and leading off the inning.

I saw the CPU manager make another smart move too in the T9th when I had a runner on second and 1 out. First base was open so instead of pitching to the #8 batter Ronny Cedeno, he was intentionally walked which brought Evan Meek up.

Meek pitched a scoreless 8th and I had contemplated leaving him for the 9th, esp if Cedeno had gotten a base hit. Instead, the CPU manager made me burn Meek, and in-turn burn a pinch hitter and the Cubbies ended up getting out of the jam.

With that said...this game went into extra innings, and ended in the 11th w/ a 3-run walk-off HR by Aramis Ramirez, his 2nd HR of the game.

Hanrahan is absolutely brutal in the game. As a Bucs fan I play with them, and honestly I feel much safer with Meek closing the game than Hanrahan, as Hanrahan seems to just have no control and everything he throws gets wacked.

I guess it's time to move up to All Star. Check out the 9th inning. That included a Jose Bautista Gland Slam Home Run. Completely awesome!!

Pitching tips: After playing 10 games (7-3) in All Start, I noticed that when I max or throw hard in all pitches I got hit more frequently. This happens with not so good pitchers. I started pitching using different speeds, meaning, not going max all the time and has worked a lot better than other games. About 70% to 100% mixing speeds.

First game with Jurrjens 6 runs in 4 innings, the next start mixing speeds 1 run. Lost 2-1 against Hammel (Phillies)) It was a tied game in the 8th.

The pitcher has less control of the pitch when going max, that also helped get more strikeouts and using corners to freeze batters.

                          Does it work for you?

I'm really beginning to think injuries are more frequent in franchise when you play games as oppose to simming them (and most frequently to pitchers). My Cubs franchise is the same way, numerous injuries to pitchers. The computer seems to face injuries to their pitchers too when I play them. As I mentioned earlier, my pitcher will go down in the 5th, the computer will take out their pitcher in the 2nd (if there is an injury).

I've turned injuries down to 23 but they still seem to happen every game after I change the slider. There's really no way to be sure it is helping until I play deep into the season but by then I may not have any MLB pitchers left healthy. It would be really nice to know what kind of difference 25 makes vs. 40 vs. 50 vs 60. I can't even imagine why anyone would play higher than 50. So far, I'm able to get through 2-3 games without an injury and that's on 30!

Finally just had Colvin get hurt which is my first position player to get hurt in a non-simmed game.
