        Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Well i decided to start a Astros Franschise. I have always liked the Orange star uniforms and Minute Maid is just fun to play. tired of playing AL teams...

ON a side note lets say it has not gone all that well. Playing 1 game of the series and simming the rest I have gone 9-19 heading into the end of april, using Bigfnjoes and mhrash sliders with mharsh's roster file my team is really bad. Trying to build for the future but I'm not sure what to do anymore. help would be great appecited.

I guess the only thing is to start bringing up the Farm system and see how the season plays out. Seems to be playing out like the MLB team for real right now.

Ya just use this year to see how things play out and find out were you need to draft players the most. Free agency could help, but about %90 of the Astro's have no trade value so that probably won't happen. Now you just need to draft and give older good farm guys a chance to see how they play out the big league.

            Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

Okay, so I'm officially halfway through year one with the Phillies. We're sitting at 54-37 at the All Star break with a 3 game lead over the 2nd place Mets.

The biggest surprise in the standings so far comes from the AL East. The Baltimore Orioles are riding their big bats and standout performances from the 11-2 Justin Duchscherer and 8-1 Zach Britton to a 54-37 record, which puts them just .5 games back of the division-leading Boston Red Sox.

In terms of overall league stats, they look okay. Cabrera has 30 HR at the break but will probably cool off. The next closest guy has 23. Kemp leads with a .367 average. The highest number of wins is 11 for pitchers, and the lowest ERA is 2.02.

I feel pretty fortunate that the team is in such a good position at the break given the injuries we've had to deal with to the pitching staff early on. Roy Oswalt missed a little over a month with a fractured finger, and Cliff Lee missed close to two weeks with a torn shoulder ligament. Both pitchers took some time to regain their endurance, but appear to have settled in. In the interim, I signed the ancient Jamie Moyer to a one-year deal to provide some relief in spot starts.

In their stead Roy Halliday and Cole Hamels have carried the team. Halliday is 11-3 with a 2.10 ERA, 5 complete games, and two shutouts. Hamels is 10-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 2 complete games and 2 shutouts.

On offense, Utley and Howard are off to good starts. Utley has driven in 50 RBI. He's batting .298 with 22 2B and 10 HR. Howard has driven in 64 and is batting .320 with 18 HR. Alongside them, Ben Francisco is having an All Star caliber year. He's batting .318 with 15 HR and 46 RBI.

Young phenom Dominic Brown has seen significant action. He's showing some promise, hitting .253 with 8 HR in 200 AB.

Unfortunately, Shane Victorino has been abysmal. He's hitting just .238 and has failed to produce no matter where I put him in the lineup. I'm considering putting him on the block and seeking compensation in the form of prospects. This team is so old that I feel I may need to cut bait with unproductive vets when they still have some value so I can stock the farm.

I've also considered moving Polanco, who has been hot and cold on offense, but he's been really good on defense, which is important to me.

Overall, the first half has been really fun. I'm hoping the team can stay healthy over the second half.

Edit: Ryan Howard, Roy Halliday, Cole Hamels, and Kyle Kendrick made the All Star team.

              Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

It took me forever to finally get my team. Constantly going through 5 games then wanting a different players, or I felt it was unrealistic. I finally settled with the base Padres with 1 extra addition. I added 3 5 star prospects to my AAA and I traded for Ryan Sweeney.

I am currently at the all star break looking at the stats right now. I have played every game so far lol. But what I do is I only do the hitting so it doesn't take forever.

My lineup currently looks like this.
              1. Ryan Sweeney
              2. Chase Headley

Unless I missed it. Who's in your rotation.I make sure my Pirates make a trade for Sweeny what's his hitting stats based on contact and power for lefties and righties.Good read though.

This is a Brewer's Franchise that is just past the All Star Break. Never really blogged before but using having a pretty good time as my buddy is the gm and I play the games. He can see this at work now and send me line ups, trade ideas, etc. Very neat feature, can't wait to see where ti goes next.

                    Sweeney stats are:
                    Contact RHP - 85
                    Contact LHP - 70
                    Power RHP - 48
                    Power LHP - 38 (I think, or it's close)
                    Speed 79.

Not the best vs a lefty, or not a very good power hitter, but he is leading the league in doubles for me and is by far my best hitter. He only has 2 home runs on the year but since 80% of pitchers you face are righties, he is a huge asset.

                    My rotation is like this

                    1. Mat Latos, 10-5, 2.87 ERA, 124 K's.
                    2. Clayton Richard, 8-6, 3.62 ERA, 73 K's.
                    3. Aaron Harang, 6-1, 3.31 ERA, 93 K's.
                    4. Tim Stauffer, 4-7, 4.13 ERA, 52 K's.

My 5th spot switched around a lot between 2 guys, but I called up my 3rd guy in June and he looks like my 5th starter.

                    5. Dustin Moseley, 1-4, 4.71 ERA, 12 K's (Not in my rotation anymore).
                    5. Jordan Lyles, 5-0 (6 starts), 1.23 ERA, 51 K's in 42 innings. His ratings are not very good but he is just on fire.

Nice rotation. Lyle's is definetly pretty good maybe even the pitcher of your franchise.51 K's in 42 innings is stellar. Probably trade for Sweeny and make him lead off and move McCuthchen 3rd and Alvarev 4th . If only he had more power. Maybe it will come with progresion .But I don't know.Still killer rotation man.Oh,BTW sick double play harlem.

Checked it out pretty cool. I might get one. I already have their homepage bookmarked so maybe I'll get one. Cool though.

I am still chugging along in my two franchises: one an All-30 teams chise where I am exclusively using the Phillies, the other a single-team chise with the Pirates.

They both come with their ups and downs....

I have played most of my games in the Pirates chise, but certain AI roster management scenarios/decisions have wained my interest. For instance, I recently played the Nationals and the closer I faced was Livan Hernandez.....since it's a single team chise I cannot edit lineups and rotations. These nuances leave me feeling cheapened by the outcome of games.

So I then pick up and continue playing in my Phillies" All 30" chise. Its still in April, albeit late April, so I play a couple Halladay starts then sim forward to June. Once I get to the draft, I made every team's first rd selection then simmed the rest. I then had to sign the new draftees, and assign them to the minors....well I opted to automate and 3 hours later I had not played a single game, and I was almost done with lineups before nodding out.

I do like full-control, but it gets rather cumbersome. However, it is also hard to deal with the AI roster moves etc.

So I am kinda stuck on what direction I should go. I am spending more time managing rosters than playing games in my all-30 franchise, and although I have more time invested in my Pirates chise I am getting tired of seeing the cpu assign Livan Hernandez the closer role, or making Hong Kuo a starter for the Dodgers.

I'm having lots of fun with the roster management aspect too, more so than I'd thought. I've never approached a franchise like this where I sim some games and play others.

In my Phillies franchise Cole Hamels went down for 4 months right after the All-Star break. I couldn't believe it. To make matters worse, I had just traded Joe Blanton to ATL to pickup lefty specialist Eric O'Flaherty to balance the bullpen for the playoff run. I'm still good with Halliday, Lee and Oswalt as my 1-3, and Kendrick is a passable 4th, but the 5th spot is now totally in disarray.

If Lee or Oswalt get hurt again (both have been hurt this season), I could run into big problems.

It's a shame he's doing so well and I can't use him. I only do hitting then I supersim the pitching so the games go by faster. He seems like a blast to use but oh well.

Out of curiosity, if you were to do only hitting or pitching, which would you do?
