    Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

So I started a mets franchise and made some trades after spring training but before opening day. My friend says I made terrible trades for the mets but I think I helped them. Just wanted to see what your thoughts are on my team. Started by getting rid of carlos beltran's contract. I wanted some power against RHP so I traded straight up for jason kuble. Next I went and traded jason bay. Same reason as beltran. I trade bay and 2 prospect pitchers for joba and andrew jones. Lastly I needed a 2nd baseman so I traded a few prospect for bill hall. I now have 43.29 million dollars free and a more powerfully team without really giving up any defence. And I traded for guys that are on the last years of there contracts too. So all but joba will be free agents next year.

      Batting

The first two are easy to get on base (CF Andrew McCutchen
LF Jose Tabata) on the next to have great power (3B Pedro Alvarez
1B Lyle Overbay) to hit homers. RF Garrett Jones could have been clean-up put I need that power late in the line-up. The line-up is below here.
      CF Andrew McCutchen
      LF Jose Tabata
      3B Pedro Alvarez
      1B Lyle Overbay
      C Jason Jarmillo
      2B Neil Walker
      RF Garrett Jones
      SS Ronny Cedeno
      Pitching
Carl Pavano is the ace. Evan Meek is great for a good Closer because has great speed.

      1. Carl Pavano Right LR Ross Ohlendorf
      2. Paul Maholm Left MR Joel Hanerhan
      3. James McDonald Right SU Grant Blafour
      4. Brad Lincoln Right CL Evan Meek
      5. Kyle Kendrick Right
      Wrap-Up
      Go Buckos!

          Help me choose teams guys:

I'm probably gonna do a 3-team, 2kroster franchise, need help on which teams to pick out of the following:

          Indians
          Rockies
          Athletics
          Marlins
          Blue Jays

I'm leaning towards the Marlins + Indians, but I dont know who else to take. Maybe Blue Jays? What do you guys think?

Those are all fun teams. OAK has such terrible hitters, though, that it's really painful to play with them. With teams like CLE, DEN, and TOR you know you have the offense to pick you up when your pitchers aren't getting it done.

Yeah, ive played with the Athletics a bit and their hitting is easily one of the worst. Their best hitter is Josh Willingham

Ill probably go Blue Jays - Indians - Marlins.

                My views:

Beltran for Kuble: Not a fan. Yes, Kubel is amazing against righties, but he is worthless against lefties. His defense is much worse. The only positives are that he's younger. I don't count the cheaper contract as a positive because Beltran's contract expires after this year, so unless you're going to use that money you saved for someone in free agency this year, the using salary as a reason for trade is worthless.

Bay + Prospects for Chamberlain and Jones: Love this. Granted, I have no idea what prospects you traded, but you got amazing power and a pretty good reliever for a player who is on the downside of their career. Nice trade.

Prospects for Hall: Again, I can't comment on it too much since I have no idea what prospects you gave up. You did add some good power though in Hall.

Beltran for kubel that trade gave the team power vs RHP that was needed and it basically was I can't hit with beltran but I'm awesome with kubel so it was about even for the team but more for me.

I pretty much agree. Straight up man..Kubel offers great power on righties, but more should be a RHPDH( I know the NL doesn't have DH's I am a Pirates fan I and going to see them play the Mets tommorow(Saturday, June 11, 2011))(LOL Pirates vs. Mets)

I think of those teams CLE is maybe the most interesting. You have some decent arms in the rotation and a really nice array of young hitters in Cabrera, Choo, Martinez, and you have Sizemore in there too. TOR has all that power, but I don't recall enjoying pitching with their staff all that much.

Finally got the time to play a couple of games, and currently sit at 6-1 in my Rangers franchise. I swept the Mariners, and even had a perfect game through 7 with C.J. Wilson. My hitting has been through the roof, but oddly enough the players struggling the most are Michael Young and Nelson Cruz. Mike Napoli is a BEAST. I think he's sitting at 5 home runs already after 7 games.

Edit: Just played another game and did something I haven't done in a long, long time if ever in a baseball game. I came from behind and part of that comeback started with a two-run homer for Michael Young. The Orioles bring Kevin Gregg into the game and David Murphy takes the first pitch deep for a home run. Mike Napoli comes up and the very next pitch takes Gregg deep again. So I went back to back to back. Needless to say, Gregg was taken out of the game after his two pitches.

Lost 4 of my final six games, two to the Rays and two to the White Sox, and after 162 games, my record is 94-68. That is the exact same record as the Yanks after all 162, which means I have a one game showdown against the Yanks to decide the division since both New York and myself are in the playoffs already.

You would have a lot of fun with the Rockies. Coors Field is spacious and a nice-looking park, so perfect for some big offensive numbers. Colorado has a strong lineup and good pitching.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up choosing the Indians, Rockies, and Marlins

I simulated the first month of the season after setting up the rotations/lineups to my liking. I just wanted to get into the season a bit since my previous franchise attempts have all burnt out in mid-April haha.

I decided to play my first game with the Indians. Faced the A's, with the pitching matchup being Carlos Carrasco vs. Dallas Braden

Let me tell you - Dallas Braden destroyed me. He's been having a monster season for the A's so far - coming into the game he had the 2nd lowest ERA in the MLB and was 4-1.

I couldnt scratch across a run at all, and only managed two hits off of him through 7 innings. His changeup is filthy.

Carrasco, meanwhile, matched him pitch for pitch, stranding runners that got on and getting big time strikeouts.

The A's finally got on the board in the 7th. Carrasco got into his first real jam of the night. The A's loaded the bases with no outs. However, I got Adam Rosales to hit a groundball to 2nd and threw home to get the first out.

Up next was the relatively speedy Cliff Pennington. First pitch swinging, he lines a ball to the shortstop. Orlando Cabrera fields the ball, and goes to turn two with Asdrubal, only the relay throw is too late to get Pennington. His hustle leads to the Indians scoring the first run of the game and going up 1-0 (really close play at first, he was safe by a hair, pretty dramatic).

Heading into the 9th now, still down 1-0 with Braden still on the mound.

He gets two quick outs, and my final hope is Asdrubal Cabrera....

who proceeds to work the count to 3-1 in his favor and then SMASH a game tying homerun to knock Braden out of the game. Truly one of the most clutch homeruns I've ever hit. I jumped up and down when I got it, lol.

Game heads to extra, where I mow down the A's in the 10th. Top of the 11th, Austin Kearns comes up (hes having a really nice season so far).

What does he do? JACKS one off Andrew Bailey. 2-1 Indians. Score would remain that way as I close the door on them in the 11th.

Really nice game, and a good intro to the Indians to say the least.
