Face the facts, this is "Roundtable Impressions" of the 2k11 demo PERIOD! Once the word SHOW enters the mix, intentionally or not, what in the world would one expect. I am surprised this didnt get locked down 35 posts ago. Fact: nothing really is being added to this thread, is there?

I Usually only troll the forms looking for whatever I am interested at the time, I think I may need to use that for my sig.
Anyways. I'm getting this game day one reguardless, I was impressed with pitching and the battle at the plate last year; this year is no different. Add some great feilding to that? You have yourself a game. I loved the demo. I am holding my breath for franchise improvements though. I sim more games then I play and the progression killed me last year.
Seriously though. 2k is releasing a quality game this year in my opinion. I don't see what is up with the people getting personal here. . .Gt: rugged0shrewComment

Personally, I think every game should just include progression and regression sliders but really expand it i.e. progression and regression sliders for A potential prospects, progression and regression for B potential players etc. Another way for the developers to give us the control over how we want our franchises to play out.

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
One thing I've been curious about...2K8 had a set of four sliders for regression and progression. I never got far enough into any franchise in that game to see how effective those were. Anyone have any first-hand knowledge of these sliders? And if they were good, wouldn't they be the answer to all our problems?

On the note of prospects. The speed/Acc of generated players is always low for any generated class. I know in 2k8 it hamstringed the longevity of the game, because the top pics I mentioned earlier usually came in (If they were a pos. player) with F/D speed. You got the occasional burner, but his bat and fielding were usually not up to par. At least thats how it was in my experiences. It is one of my biggest complaints in franchise.Gt: rugged0shrewComment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
Again , my opinion is that 2k11 will be fun, I had fun with 2k10 last year...it was realistic enough for me...baseball is my #1 sport, I played and coached high school, and used to broadcast college games on the radio. I enjoy both titles...they offer different things.
What I personally have not seen from either demo, is $60 worth of improvements. SCEA's game offers some new models which make it nicer...the accompanying animations, and re-done fielding ratings- the animations I can see in the demo, the new ratings, etc, which I can also see. In 2k11 , I have not noticed many changes, but I didn't play 2k10 a TON- so I am not the best source on this.
Again, I want to say the heat 2k is taking for the demo is from people who ARE interested in the 2k title. Nobody downloads the game just to troll a forum.
I can see where and why each of writers said what they did, and that to me makes it a legitimate article.Last edited by ryan36; 03-06-2011, 01:24 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
There isn't a "casual game" , there's a game marketed to the pick up and play crowd. Madden isn't arcade...yet they gear it toward the pick up and play crowd.

Honestly, if I never picked up 2k before, I would think I would have a difficult time mastering the controls on a first time basis. I can't just hand this to my 12 year old and say, here you go. I'd be watching the frustration mount. To me, that isn't pick up and play.
That's my simple take.Last edited by roadman; 03-06-2011, 08:56 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
It's not pickup-and-play. I'm not sure why anyone would actually feel that way especially when a lot of those same people complain about gesture pitching being too difficult.
Is hitting a bit easier? Maybe. Or maybe it's just the way this development team thought would best emulate the real thing.
We can crack heads over what hitting system is superior: zone, timing or cursor. The point is neither is more realistic than the other. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
I say this often enough and will continue to say it, I will never for the life of me understand why people get their panties in a bunch over other preferences of play. Play the game the way you want to and let someone else play the way they want to.
MLB 2K is offering their perspective on the game of baseball. Everyone's is different. I actually enjoy both perspectives that we have available to us and despite my initial disappointment with the little things in MLB 2K11, I still find myself wanting to play the demo because it's fun.
No one here says you have to like MLB 2K, but there's also no need to start bringing in your passion for The Show just so you can gloat about what it does right and MLB 2K does wrong. I have yet to see any MLB 2K fans terrorize The Show forums the way The Show fans terrorize the 2K forums and it's not going to happen this year. It's not going to continue this way.
If I have to personally read every single post, every single comment and hand out warnings or bannings to people that might think they are invincible to insult another franchise, I will do it. The war either ends now or I'll personally end it for anyone that wants to continue. Enjoy reading the boards because that's the most you'll get to do if this continues."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
Well, the demo was obvious terrible witch probably means 8 times out of 10 the actually full game will be terrible. I wonder what's going on with 2K baseball we all see how 2K basketball curtinly has the potential. I'ts maby because their baseball licence is ending this season...so this is just a goodbye slap in the face.

It's called an opinion. Let him have it. And you're not helping with comments like this."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
Well, after more time with the 2K11 demo, I am gonna buy it and only it Tuesday. It does a lot of things well and I like the fast pace games. I haven't bought a 2K baseball game in 5 years and a lot of it seems new and fresh to me and I couldn't put the demo down! Is it perfect, no, but show me a game that is.
I look at it this way, it's worth a try, and if it is something I enjoy, I will keep it. If it is something I don't enjoy as much as I have The Show the last few years, there is always eBay and The Show to buy. But, I believe with all of the improvements and as much fun as the demo is, I am doing myself an injustice by not giving it a look! That statement alone, from a huge Show fan, should tell you how far 2K has come in the last few years!Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
If I play a video game I want my skills to directly influence my odds of winning. Not just my managerial skills but my hand-eye coordination as well. I don't want to play a video game of paper & dice baseball. On the flip side, I don't want a game that relies only on my hand-eye coordination by detaching itself completely from the real world personalities and stats. I think 2K11 does a fantastic job of finding the balance between the gamer and the simulation.
I want a video game to keep me awake, involved and having fun for 9 innings. All the other little things are all great but at the end of the day those don't matter if the fundamentals are missing. I think 2K is finally getting its fundamentals down solid.Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Impressions Roundtable
I think this will be my first baseball game purchased in a long, long time. The more I play the demo, the more I like it. At first, I thought it played more like just an updated version of 2k10, but it slowly reveals lots of subtle things that differ it from last year's game. Since I don't have a PS3, I'm kind of "stuck" with the 2k series, but I really do think this is the year for me. I'll wait and see what you guys think about the game first just to be sure, but yeah, I've been playing way too much NHL 11, so I need to switch to a new sport haha.Comment
