Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Ive gotten whacked around on pro my last two games - given up at least 15 hits each time, with a decent amount of doubles thrown in there.

Pitching is alot harder this year. I'm somewhat frustrated by it in a way, I dont want to be giving up 15+hits and 7+runs every game.

Hitting is relatively easy on pro but I'm playing with the Yankees so that doesnt come as a surprise.

With some slight slider tweaks this could be a very solid game.

-I'm having fun but I'm finding the CPU swings at EVERYTHING. I have played four games so far and I on average strike out 2 batters a game while having an ERA of 2.90 among my starters for the Phillies. The CPU will swing at anything on the black and rarely miss. Typically this leads to soft liners to the infield. The CPU will routinely swing on the first pitch and rarely foul anything. Getting kinda of annoying not being able to strikeout anybody with Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and Hamels .

-Because of the free swinging CPU I'm seeing boxscores with 12-18 hits a game and the final score being 3-5. Just WAY too many singles. I'm not sure what to do about it. I'm keeping the score low and winning but I have like a 3.00 WHIP for all my starters.

-Too easy to make contact for myself. I might be able to fix this with sliders.

-As a stat guy I'm really liking all the stats the game keeps

-As already been said the commentary is amazing!

-Working the count and getting walks is very rewarding

-CPU has yet hit a homerun on me, however that could be do to my rotation.

-Fielding is intuitive and easy to use. Can really feel and see a difference between a great fielder and a terrible one.

-There really needs to be more foul balls all around. I feel this is the reason for my lack of strikeouts and way to many hits generated by both teams.

-no sliders for the CPU kinda of sucks.

-So far enjoying myself but really hoping to find a slider setting that tones things down a bit.
You can change the CPU sliders....in the slider section, you have to use the RB/LB to change to CPU.

Theres actually no "Accuracy" slider for CPU Pitching, which is what I think he is referring to. Several other sliders are for the human only as well.

You can tell they really worked on the Pitching aspect of the game. No longer can you be pinpoint accurate with your pitchers. Score after 6 innings

          Braves 8/Yanks 0
I just lost 11-2 to Boston with the Cardinals. Carp made it through five, barely. He gave up five runs. One in the second, and third, and then 3 in the fifth.

Basically, you really need to hit a strong effort on your pitches. If you bring a 68% effort, the CPU will make you pay. I'm loving the lack of control. It's so well done.

I've actually gone to pinpoint over breakpoint aim. Because really, we are just aiming to the end of hte arrows anyway, right. But now, if you are off, you are not hitting that blue box. It will easily move out of the zone, or into the red.

Right now, I feel like 2K nailed all three aspects, pitching, hitting and fielding.

I did hit a home run with Rasmus using contact swing. That is a great sign.

I am using All-Star, but bumped my contact from 40 to 50, but left power at 40.

I bumped AI pitch speed up to 70 from 60, as I was swinging early a lot. I was especially after playing an online game.

I then bumped fielder speed for both IF and OF to 30 from 20.

Right now, it is playing a fair game. I might try to make pitching easier, but for now I am just going to practice. I went into settings and set pitch analyzer to every pitch for now. I just want to work on getting it down more consistently. I set the swing analyzer to never.

I turned the strike zone off for pitching. I actually think with how it works now, the need to turn off the cursor is pretty much gone, unless you are playing with someone on the couch.

I left the zone on for hitting, because the hitter's eye needs it, and it does make reading balls and strikes easier. But it is nowhere near fool proof.

After all of that, I feel like I am damn close to having just a great set-up to enjoy MLB Today games until they get the bugs worked out.

Really liking the "feel" of this game in comparison to last year (360 version). Seems more fluid to me. Hitting seems harder this year but that's not a bad thing, and pitching is still just as awesome, if not more so. Really like the variable strike zone. I actually felt like the ump was screwing me over at one point last night, then I realized I was going crazy and laughed at my stupidity.

Too many positives to list and my only real gripe so far (after about 3 full games) is that there's no "cancel throw" button.

I spend most of my time in My Player mode, so I'll probably go deeper into that tonight.

Guys, I have NO IDEA how to convey this more clearly. This thread is for IMPRESSIONS ONLY.

Use the Q&A thread for discussion and questions of those who have the game

The CPU has a Strike Zone Tendency slider that covers accuracy.

Just finished a game vs the dang yankees...Arod ripped a homer to left field in the 8th off of Mejia

                  lost 4-1

                  Niese: 7 inings, 6 hits, 3 ER, 7 k's
                  Hughes: 7.1, 9 hits 1 ER, 6 K's 94 pitches, 69 strikes

                  Beltran: 3-4, run scored

                  Ike: 2-4, RBI Double

                  The game is very fun.

There's some frame rate hitches every now and then that fouled up some of my gestures..but other then that, there is very little to complain about.

user contact is a smidge easy on default, and I played on All Star. despite working Hughes for 94 pitches..I wasnt really ever close to drawing a walk.

Balls that probably could have been fouled off, and make the pitcher have to work through a longer at bat, usually end up being either contact outs, or base hits

I'm really enjoying everything I'm seeing. The AI is very keen on making pitcher substitutions. In one game versus the Braves with the Nationals, the AI made 3 pitching swaps in an inning which only had 3 runs given up. Has only happened once but despite that the experience has been very enjoyable.
Franchise mode has been given a major overhaul which I'm really appreciating. The new injury management system is a great addition which seems to add some serious replay value to this mode.
Great game so far, can't wait to get out of class and get back to playing!

                      Man this game is UNGLY!!!!!!

Other than the graphics the game plays solid.

                      Good:

                      Player reactions
                      General gameplay
                      Franchise mode
                      Announcers
Fantasy draft is REALLY nicely done

                      Bad:

Some of the worst graphics I have seen current gen
                      The hitting camera
Hitting mechanics. For contact only press up? Might as well just be pushing a face button.

I expected to see more options! I know they added more sliders, which is great and all, but leaving out an option to change the "base running" camera was a mistake imo. It's funny how you can change the "fielding" camera to previous versions such as "2k9" but you can't change the base running cam! The "Tv Presentation" was only for pitching I guess lol! Also, why isn't there an option to get rid of the small orange circle(ball landing spot)? I really like the shadow area, but there's no guessing to where it's going to land with that orange circle there. Overall I really like it, but these 2 things do bother me.

You now can edit the CPU lineup right before you play your game which is a plus. I just fired-up an play ball game V Giants & was able to swap out Matt Cain for Timmy..

I thought i seen an option for baserunner camera, and you can turn off the landing spot in game options

There is an option to change the zoom and height, but it's still the same camera. I would like to be able to change it to previous year's where the camera followed the ball into the outfield, just like the fielding view. The landing spot can only be changed to "on" and "fixed" what ever that means lol. There was another option that you can turn off which is.....I can't remember right now, but it didn't do it either.
