Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Just had an intense game against the Nats as the Braves. I have upped pitched speed which really reduced the amount of hits I was pulling off and upped my strikeouts. Strasburg was just nasty. I finally wore him down in the later innings but man he was tough with the pitch speed upped. If I didn't sit fastball I couldn't catch up. The off speed stuff was also throwing me for a loop. Great game. I had a late game comeback to bring it 7-3 in the 10th. Kimbrel almost gave me a heart attack though. Gave up a single and walked 2 for the bases loaded. Then proceeded to strikeout the next 3 batters. Very satisfying and fun game even though I was getting schooled early.

Just for context I have never really gotten into The Show. I know everyone swears by it and I'm sure it is a great game but I just don't enjoy it. I was the same way with College Hoops although I love NBA 2K.

That being said, this game is exactly what I'm looking for. I have been without a game ever since MVP 2005 and this will fill the void nicely. The graphics aren't mind-blowing; but the gameplay, presentation, and franchise mode will have me hooked on this game all season. I know there are glitches out there but I'm confident they will get patched.

      Very well done 2k!

Playing the franchise right now with the Cardinals , this game is just plain fun,I hit a two run blast with Albert Pujols in the second inning, so sweet, started the game in bright sunlight and by the 5th inning the shadows were covering the infield & Busch Stadium looks great. I really like the pitching where you can be so fine, I walked two batters so far which is a nice surprise and caught a foul ball right behind home plate with my catcher Yadier Molina which was very cool. The new hitting camera is awesome its for me just like in real base not sure where the ball is going to land making it one of the best hitting looks I have ever seen in a video baseball game. I am enjoying 2K11 very much.

I started my Cards franchise today as well, and El Hombre had a game winning grand slam in my first game. Boo-yah! I am very pleased with the gameplay. I love how difficult it is to pitch 'on the black' in 2k11. Wainwright gave up 4 walks in one game. I don't think that's ever happened to me with him in any of the previous games. I want to play another game really flippin' bad, but don't want to get scolded by my wife for neglecting her.

Totally agree. I've only played one game so far and the pitch control or lack of it is a huge improvement. I want to play a couple more games before I make some real comments but I do think the overall game is tuned similarly to 2K10 in some aspects (and this is also based on playing the demo).

The cpu still swings for contact too much. If you want to see the cpu hit more extra base hits you will have to reduce pitch accuracy and significantly boost cpu power (like 80-100).

I've read people complain about cpu aggressiveness at the plate. This is similar to last year in that the cpu aggressiveness is tied to the contact slider. As you raise cpu contact they will make contact easier but they also become more aggressive at the plate. Keep the cpu contact at 50 or drop it even (I'm playing with it at 45) and I think it's really good. The cpu swings at pitches out of the zone sometimes but also takes many out of the zone and inside the zone.

I think the gather error slider may become an issue over time. I think we will see too many dropped liners and fly balls and not enough booted grounders. Just a hunch based on what I've seen in the demo and the fact I had a line drive and two fly balls dropped in my first game today.

Overall I think this game will be great with slider tweaks. I LOVE the 2K9 fielding cam and how it zooms out on deep fly balls. Love that we can finetune more than just the batting and pitching cameras. It's also a lot nicer to be able to play on a harder difficulty setting and actually lose. I hope to play a couple more games tonight. Hopefully the double switch is set up easier.

Check out a great running catch by Austin Jackson baby!

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

Just played another game. Play Ball Yanks V Giants. CC V Timmy. Yanks pull out a thriller 4-3. Game played pretty realistically. Only things that were not normal were:

CC beating out 2 sac bunts. (Default Base running Speed)
AI Outfielders still not hitting cut-off men, so the trail runner can't take that extra base

Also for those looking for a different fielding camera. If you loved the 2k8 fielding cam, then here's your option

              Fielding Cam- 2K9 ZOOM-3 HEIGHT-10

All in All I will say this series has taken another positive step forward in the game play dept. IMO. Now if 2K can tighten-up the Real-Time Presentation aspect of the game LOOK-OUT

( Won the game 5-2 over the Padre's )

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

After never owning a baseball game since MVP 2004 and MLB 2k8 (which I got at Blockbuster for 5 bucks and never invested a whole lot of time in) this game is really great.

Playing a ton of sports video games people sometimes fail to remember that these are video games, not real life. There's going to be glitches and strange things that happen but you need to enjoy them for what they are, and not what they aren't.

That being said in the first game I played I got the CF glitch on an inning ending 2-run HR to CF (and out) but I'm confident it will be patched soon. I scrapped my way through a Brewers game with Narrveson pitching, who really wasn't that bad, against the Cubs ending with a 5-3 win with Fielder hitting a bomb to LF for a walk off win! It's as exciting, and as quick, of a baseball game as I've played for a while.

I'll try to get in a few more games this week and post further impressions. So far so great!

                        WOW WOW....WTH

The A.I decisions in this game are down right horrible

I am playing as the Yanks at Mets and winning in the bottom of the ninth 4-3 and 2 outs, the Mets kept their pitcher Manny Acosta in the game to hit

                        How is that even possible.

That was probably the best first game ever. Another Giants/Braves classic. They went up 1-0 in the 2nd but then it became a pitching battle. 2 out hit from the panda in the bottom of the 7th scored 2. Romo and Wilson shut it down.

The pitching is probably the best ever and the hitting is better than last year, upgraded to good instead of average. The hitter/batter duel feels much better here than in 2K10. Great fielding upgrade too. Feels like there's a bigger difference in the players too, especially the pitchers. I actually got nervous when Hinske came up against Romo in the bottom of the 8th.

There was one odd thing though. They walked Torres to load the bases with intent of facing Sanchez. It was a bad pitcher match up for them so I'm not sure why they did it. Grounded to 2nd but still it appeared they were playing the righty/lefty stuff instead of the actual match up.

Yeah, I think I will get the game after the patches have been released. I like where the series is headed, but I couldn't commit to a Day One purchase.

Game is fun but gameplay very similar to last year. Not a big fan of the base running camera. Can't gauge fly balls very well.

                              Presentation and play-by-play is amazing.

Also some annoyances that a few patches will need to fix. Can't wait for opening day rosters!

I think this game is great! I agree with a couple of posters on this thread that this is a game folks. Yes simulation is great, but having a fun game to play is just as important as well. My first game was Rangers at Cards(Me). I lost 2-1 in a pitchers duel. A few posters talking about the computer AI being horrible, I actually didn't run into that. For example, I was up to bat, 1 out, runners on 1st and 2nd with Holiday up. They intentionally walked him to get to Rasmus. Great baseball move in my opinion. The computer stole on me once and hit their cut off guys. Again, overall a great game. I'm looking forward to playing many hours with this game.
