Re: How can MLB 2k13 be better than 2k12...without a major overhaul
Something tells me this will never happen. But it would be a nicely added feature. Would also like to see the IF Fly rule added. Still gets me that it's missing...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

With what they have, they make a fairly good game for 360. EA has done nothing with Madden and the NHL game is also eh, ok. This generation of consoles (outside games that I either can't play because it's not on 360, or don't play - soccer) has been horrible for sports games in general.Comment

Re: How can MLB 2k13 be better than 2k12...without a major overhaul
Please fix some of the baserunning issues...
- Runners going back to the bag when the ball is hit and there are two outs.
- Runners tagging up are so slow as if they are caught in tar or molasses as they run to the next base or home.
- Runners in run-down become slow or lazy if they go back and forth more than 3x. (I understand they get tired but do the fielders ever throw a ball away?)
- Runners diving back to bag (2nd or 3rd) on a ball hit up the middle or deep into the hole when they could easily go to the next base or home. This happens sometimes when the infielder has to dive to even stop the ball.
PLUS.. fix the pinch hitter glitch for the pitcher. The pitcher shouldn't bat with bases loaded and then be replaced on the mound the next inning!
Fixing these would make me feel like I got a major overhaul even when it's not "major."Comment

Re: How can MLB 2k13 be better than 2k12...without a major overhaul
Make a very customizable, tweakbable game. I like to look back at ESPN MLB 2K5 and MLB 2K8 quite often and remember the good times of thinking outside the box and challenging the player.
ESPN MLB 2K5 was a game that had three pitching systems (K-Zone, Meter, and Classic), three hitting systems (True-Aim, Cursor, and Timing), and 100 point sliders for... get this... frequency that the AI swings at/takes pitches in the strike zone and swings at/takes pitches out of the strike zone. They also had separate sliders for infielders and outfielders with regard to running and throwing speeds. Best of all, they introduced a flawlessly working running system. It was thinking a little more outside of the box by making the running screen the box itself (no pun intended), but right off the bat (no pun intended again) you can decide for your batter-runner to take all four bases if you so choose, and each manual sliding decision importantly mattered when it came to being safe or out. Unfortunately, the game had a wretched leaping/diving system that wasn't corrected until 2K6 (a game that also offered momentum in running).
MLB 2K8 probably had the best, most intuitive pitching system in the world. The three-point analog stick pitching system gave you immersive, contextual control with your thumb alongside the player's ratings. Its batting was equally as fun, working counts and reading pitches in with a very good camera angle (an angle that can't be re-created in later 2K games or The Show). I believe it had a foul ball slider, first of its kind in the series. It had more issues than any 2K game before it, but I thought this kind of thing was a step in the right direction with regard to the game's fun factor. The throwing meter was also very good, and was something I'm glad they adopted from the MVP series. These kinds of things were shifted around for 2K9 to appeal to the casual gamer, and most of these things are sorely missed.
So how can they make 2K13 a better version of 2K12? More customization within the game! Allow us to tweak these things to our liking and our amount of difficulty. Don't remove the best stuff you have working for your game just because it wasn't favored the first time through (I wept when they removed RTP after it was introduced in 2K9); build on that foundation until it's everything you wanted it to be, instead of just changing up your vision. Also, although the commentary is very good in this game, the overall stadium ambiance is sorely lacking. Crowd noises, bat sounds, umpire calls, the PA guy, etc. all need to be completely scrapped and redone. Don't think for a second that this doesn't play into how authentic a game feels. Stadium/uniform color accuracy is the exact same way.
I don't want this series to go, but I would like them to revisit past forms of what worked so well and allow us the opportunity to go back to these roots, even if they aren't the "out of the box" settings.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: How can MLB 2k13 be better than 2k12...without a major overhaul
It was the developer's decision to not keep it as an option though. You shouldn't blame the community for that.Comment

As much as I appreciate mkharsh's contributions to the 2K community, I don't want 2K to listen to his views on analog stick hitting.
I'd prefer to let the devs take 100% responsibility for their failures and successes.Comment

I'm not blaming the community. I'm just pointing out that there is a good reason for developers to not listent to the community. It's easy to say they should listen to the smart members, but hard to identify who they are.

There is a balance involved in community input and developer response. To use your pitching example, the failure wasn't in listening to the community about the difficulty of the 3-step pitching, it was in how it was addressed. They could have added a new option for those struggling rather than completely replacing the old one. Regardless of the level of community involvement, implementation is still key. That IS 100% on the devs and an aspect that has plagued the 2K series.Comment
