    Re: 2K vs. MVP

I think it's funny when someone says MVP blows away ESPN, when NO ONE has even played ESPN yet. At least wait until it comes out and play it before you say it sucks.

      Re: 2K vs. MVP

Notice I NEVER made a direct comparison between the two games. For all I know, ESPN kills MVP 2004 in every aspect.

The problem i am stating is that I CANNOT make the comparison because ESPN is NOT OUT!!!

Therefore, I as well as the 1000's of mindless media drones will go out and purchase MVP simply because it's available and ESPM is NOT. And SEGA does looses out on 1,000's of dollars because they didn't deliver on time. THAT is my gripe!!!

SEGA HAS TO GET IT!!! Right now, they don't. It's simply NOT SMART BUSINESS.

      Argue this point with me.

Sega has tried that before and people would rather wait for the game that they wanted in the first place then get the game that came out first. The reason why it looks like sega is stupid for releasing the game later is because ea put their game out first and as usual it sold a lot. People were just going to wait for mvp regardless of when it came out.

Some people would have waited for MVP but others just want to play a baseball game. A lot of people who wanted ESPN bought MVP because they did not want to wait.

Exactly Jmood. Marketing is the reason for Sega's lack of success. Do people really believe that when a game comes out drastically affects how it sells against an EA backed product? Given all the info and hype of MVP released prior to it's release, do you really think ESPN would have been better off releasing the game a week prior to or on the same day as MVP? Most people had their mind on getting MVP regardless of when any other ball game came out.

I mean if MVP took another month or two to iron out some of the problems people are complaining about allowing ASB to come out first would EA be "idiots" or "lazy".

Making games shouldn't be like a track meet in the sense that the first one to the finish line wins. If that game is really good then it wouldn't matter when the competition comes out.

VC's only concern should be making a quality product and Sega's primary job should be making sure as many people know about that product. I think VC has been doing their job but Sega hasn't really held up their end.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

And if you have played MVP for any amount of time you would see the cost of releasing a game too early. FAR TOO many bugs. If you don't believe me take a look at the Bug thread in the MVP forum. ESPN made the wise choice in my opion. 4 weeks is nothing to wait if the game will give me 6 months- 1 year of playing enjoyment.
