I'm not a baseball fan but by reading reviews and by just being a sports games fan I can tell the MVP baseball will be one of the best baseball games ever. EA has officially stepped up all their franchises. Hopefully it can be in the same camp as Ken griffey's baseball game on the n64 cause it was off the hook!

Re: 2K vs. MVP
MVP is SO they HYPED one!
I don't see it being a better baseball game than ESPN at all, and I know it isn't better than ASB '05 unless you are just looking for some arcady fun exhibition gameplay. Name one thing other than mo-cap animations that MVP has on either ESPN or ASB?
Is it a meter pitching system that gives pin point accuracty to even the worst control pitcher?
Is it the underdeveloped and unrealistic AI on and off the field?
Is it the unneccisary fielding meter that breaks up the pace of the game?
Is it the simplistic 'timed' batting system with an unrealistic zone modifier?
Is it the broke down franchise mode?
Is it the lack of online play on the Xbox?
Is it the fantastic variety of tripples?
Is it the lack of hit and run or steals?
Is it the lack of fielders to back up plays properly?
Is it the fielders letting balls roll to a stop in the infield and not even going after them?
Come on people. Take MVP for what it is not what it is hyped up to be. It is a fun game of baseball but far from realistic and far from problem free.Comment

Well, I personally feel that MVP has been improved greatly over last year's version. EA realized their Triple Play games were mediocre as the years went by, and they scrapped them and rebuilt their baseball games in the form of MVP.
Whether the game is better than ASB, WSB, ESPN, will always be up for debate, but it certainly is an improvement over last year's release.
Many of the questions you are asking and comparing to MVP are opinion-based. Throw meters, hot/cold zones, and the batting system itself are issues that people like and dislike, but aren't necessarily worth arguing over.
EA does hype its games a lot, and this results in them selling a lot of copies. However, the fact that they scrapped Triple Play and rebuilt a new baseball game, shows that they are interested in putting out a better product each year, and if you play last year's MVP and compare it to this years, there are numerous improvements and additions that aren't just "empty hype."
EA listened to the gripes of it's consumers and they made changes to their game to address those complaints.
They included gameplay sliders that work, and also address many of the issues you are commenting on in your post.
I will be checking out ESPN this year, but I won't be checking out All-Star Baseball. I played it last year and wasn't a fan of the engine and batting system, and seeing that it hasn't undergone any majoy engine overhauls, I don't consider it worth checking out this year.
I did enjoy WSB last year, so I will be checking that out, but whether it is able to replace MVP as my baseball game remains to be seen. Either way, it's a win/win situation, and that is the nice thing about competetion. It promotes progress and quality, and rewards companies that listen to their consumers, make the requested changes, and release an improved product year to year.
I, personally, play the games I like, regardless of what others think. I am not quite sure why some people are so concerned about what games everyone else is playing, and makes it an apparent life mission to "convert" that person to the "right side." Everyone has unique tastes, and it's only fitting that people enjoy different games for different reasons.
All that matters to me is that I am playing the game that is the most fun for me. Regardless of how many copies it sells, advertisements it airs, and glowing reviews it gets from gaming magazines nationwide.Comment

Re: 2K vs. MVP
Great post Grondar!
Humm...why do some people make it their mission to persuade others to their point of view? That is an age old question. I think it is human nature to be defensive of our property. So when you buy MVP or ESPN you will defend it (unless you buy both, then you are unbiased, mostly). It's like family, no matter how stupid your bothers, sisters, wife, children, mother and father are, when it comes down to it, instinct says wether they are right or wrong, to defend them at all costs!
So the key is to be unbiased in these things and always give every game the benefit of the dought until you have tried it. Also, there is ususally good and bad in almost every game. MVP has many good points and many bad points too. ESPN (whenever I get to try it) will have good points and bad points.
Unfortunately, we don't all have enough $$$ to buy every game, so we rely on reviews. The only deal with reviews is you gotta read them closely and find out why a game is being given praise or being bashed...it might be on an issue you don't give a rats cranny about. Links 2004 on XBOX certainly took some hits (as a good example), simply because the commentary stunk and the framerate was a bit off. To me, I cared how the game played and if the commentary was wacky, so what. But for others, maybe that is important.Comment
