    Re: 2K vs. MVP

    Great post Grondar!

Humm...why do some people make it their mission to persuade others to their point of view? That is an age old question. I think it is human nature to be defensive of our property. So when you buy MVP or ESPN you will defend it (unless you buy both, then you are unbiased, mostly). It's like family, no matter how stupid your bothers, sisters, wife, children, mother and father are, when it comes down to it, instinct says wether they are right or wrong, to defend them at all costs!

So the key is to be unbiased in these things and always give every game the benefit of the dought until you have tried it. Also, there is ususally good and bad in almost every game. MVP has many good points and many bad points too. ESPN (whenever I get to try it) will have good points and bad points.

Unfortunately, we don't all have enough $$$ to buy every game, so we rely on reviews. The only deal with reviews is you gotta read them closely and find out why a game is being given praise or being bashed...it might be on an issue you don't give a rats cranny about. Links 2004 on XBOX certainly took some hits (as a good example), simply because the commentary stunk and the framerate was a bit off. To me, I cared how the game played and if the commentary was wacky, so what. But for others, maybe that is important.

      Re: 2K vs. MVP

No game is problem free. You can find good things and bad things in every game that you play.

I have both MVP and ASB, and i like both of them. I play MVP offline amd ASB online. I've also had every WSB game since DC. It looks like ESPN will be the same as WSB2k3, and though WSB2k3 was good, i don't believe it was as good as MVP was this year. I could never had imagined playing 162 games with WSB, but i'm actually doin it with MVP. ESPN is eye candy, but when it comes to baseball...it doesn't capture it as well as MVP's excitement, or ASB's authentic baseball pace. In WSB2K3 it kinda felt like you were swinging a golf club and hitting a golf ball, or playing stick ball instead of swinging a baseball bat. Players in ESPN games in general don't have flexibility, they are either stiff ( ESPN Basketball ) or they move oddly , like a robot (WSB2K3).

In ESPN Baseball everything is too squeaky clean and shiny, and baseball isn't a clean sport. Guys get dirty in baseball, they don't care about messing up their unis ( in MVP you can see dirt stains) in ESPN players can't get dirty. It's like they're just playing baseball to prance around and look pretty.

ESPN doesn't allow you to you roster updates online, and ASB does.
There's no real managers in ESPN...MVP has real managers.
      No player editor in ESPN.
No weather options in ESPN or MVP like ASB.
ASB also has more stadiums than MVP or ESPN.
Controlling slides in MVP is awesome.
ASB's fielder cam and behind the pitcher cam are nifty.

Perhaps i'm just spoiled by MVP and ASB. I just don't think ESPN will give me anything better than what I already have with MVP and ASB. If only MVP and ASB were one game.......*sigh* I wish.

            1. There are online roster updates for ESPN. You just can't play online games with the updated rosters.
            2. Ummm... is this really that important?
            3. There is a player editor in ESPN. Where do you get your information?
            4. Baseball isn't really a game for bad weather, anyway. I don't need this option.
            5. I don't need to play a game on a playground, either.
            6. Slide control is kind of a cool feature.
            7. Can't really comment on the differences between the cameras in the different games, other than to say that I like ESPN's behind the pitcher camera, and you can hit in that view this year. ESPN has also improved their fielding cameras.

Most of the things you mentioned are just fluff. If fluff is what you want in a baseball game, I can't take that away from you, but gameplay is much more important to me.

                  Re: 2K vs. MVP

It's a shame really, I've been a SEGA Sports fan for many years. I remember playing the first WSB game at E3 before it was even released. I was excited that SEGA finally was releasing a baseball title for those of us that hated EA's arcadey style.

Well, it appears I've finally succumbed to the dark side. Yesterday I bought EA's MVP 2004 and let me tell you, it's way better than anything SEGA has ever made. It has everything in it, and is a ton of fun to play. After adjusting my sliders to Pared's latest and downloading the updated rosters for the XBOX version(you guys did an awesome job with these roster updates... KUDOS), I was up and running.

Into my fourth game on the Pro level I'm still getting my *** kicked. But there was a great moment in one of my innings. My Dodgers at bat were losing 6 - 0 to the Mets in the fifth inning with two outs. I mount a bit of a rally and manage to get a base hit, a walk and another walk to get the bases loaded. At this point the crowd is going nuts, the pitcher is sweating bullets, and Beltre is up at bat. I work the count, strike one, ball, ball, swing and a whiff, foul ball, foul ball... I was sweating like a pig... CONNECT!!! Looks like it's going... going... Grand Slam baby!!! I was jumping in my living room and going nuts!!! The fireworks go off in Dodger stadium!!! We're back in it baby!!! Next inning, Nomo gets pounded and I end up losing the game 8 -4. But man, what a rush that was.

So, my next game is against the Tigers, still on Pro level (gotta get some more games in before I try All-Star). Now, you must understand, the Dodgers are not really a powerhouse when it comes to batting. So, I must rely heavily on my pitchers to get the job done. Nomo holds them off well, and I'm ahead two nothing in the fifth. I am pitching with one out already and relax a bit on my precision and get tagged for a double. I walk the next batter to try to get the double-play but instead get tagged on a line double and end up giving a run with a man on second and third. At this point I start warming up Dreifort and before I throw the next pitch I notice I can visit the mound. BRILLIANT!!! It's these little touches that make this game great. The crowd was getting restless and Nomo was getting rattled so I had to calm things down. He clamps down a little, on the next batter and gets a pop-up out. The next Detroit batter is working the count and finally Nomo gets him swinging on a beautiful clutch fastball, and the crowd loves it. Next inning I get two guys on base with one out, and I take Nomo out for Romano who works the count nasty and singles a drives that brings in two runs. At this point I'm up by 3 and Dreifort gets me to the eight and I'm already warming up Gagne. Dreifort gets in a mess and lets the bases get loaded with two outs left. I bring in Eric Gagne to close down the show. And it's a beauty to see him do so. I strike out both batters. And in classic Gagne fashion, I destroy the last three batters in the 9th with a pop-up and two strike-outs, the final on a nasty fastball swing and a miss.

It's a shame really, this game has killed ESPN MLB.
