I wanted ESPN i ended up getting Madden just because i wanted to play a football game at that time same with NBA Live i was watching the preseason and couldn't wait anymore. It's not a smart move by Sega at all. I could understand if Sega Sports games sold over 500,000 copies per console but they aint selling so you gotta go head to head. This is like going against the worlds fastest man and giving him a HUGE headstart impossible to catch. To beat a beast u have to be a beast keep takin it easy and you'll be looking for jobs at EA soon.

EA = business first, developer second

btw did you buy the latest chart topping cd yet? the one that's got the video with lots of lights, those cool looking trucks that have spinning rims and girls with shorts so tight they all have cameltoes?

Games aren't music cds. A 50 dollar investment isn't anything close to a 9-11 dollar investment. Face it, consumers buy EA games and EA games get high reviews because they're quality control is extremely high. That comes from having tons of money, and that money also ensures EA games have lots of extra flash and that sets them apart from their more pedestrian competition. Sega doesn't help themselves with their lame ads, less-than-stellar gameplay(especially football and baseball), and a new focus on gimmicky junk(first person).

ESPN videogame's problem isn't when they release their games. Their problem is EA. ESPN videogames can have great reviews but that doesn't matter to EA fans. Great reviews don't make a game good. Good sales makes a game good. If the game sold more copies then it must be the best. At least that's the motto of the fans of EA.

The only way ESPN videogames can start to sell more games and start chipping away at EA is by using the ESPN cable channels. If They start having Preview and Reviews shows for their games on the ESPN channels people will start to buy more copies believe me. EA doesn't have it's own channel but ESPN does they need to start using that power.

The thing is, it was SEGA who went out to get the ESPN license. ESPN accepted their offer probably for the money. If you watch closely, you'll always see alot more EA commercials on ESPN than SEGA commercials despite SEGA touting the ESPN fluff. There is little to no incentive for ESPN to showboat their video games because they won't benefit from it.

The bottom line is, Sega needs ESPN alot more than ESPN needs Sega.

I remember when Sega announced they were releasing every sports game on the same day at EA sports to compete. That idea went out the window fast.
