If you wanted to couldn't you just make the game play like WSB2K3?

I thought in one of the interviews I read somewhere that they stated that most of the new gameplay features such as speed boost, cursorless batting, effort meter could all be turned off, if so how can impressions be given about the new gameplay options giving it a lower rating when you can just revert back to WSB2k3 gameplay type which around many websites and mag reviews was given the highest rating. Is there other parts of the gameplay that Sega screwed up, because if it can be made to play just like last years then I'll be a happy camper?

Yeah, I think I may have said this before as well. The gameplay that was flawed last year is fixed this year, so while the gameplay hasn't improved too much (which there wasn't much improving needed), there is still bashing going on. I don't get it. Last year's game had the best gameplay, this year it's even better. Is it because they didn't improve the game enough? Is that why ratings are so low?

          Basically.

Tony LaRussa Baseball was a great game when it was released. If it was released in it's original form today, would it still get high scores?

I think reviewers expect to see growth and change in franchises, and seem to be docking ESPN on that.

                Yeah, maybe.

I don't know if they had the big chances though, but Blue Shift also said that their biggest improvements were GM Career mode and Online play, right? I don't know how much of that they got to see, but I think that they should rate the games like there was no such thing as a game before. "WSB who?"

That way, they can not think of what has been improved on (or not improved on), and can rate the game based on... well... the game, and not past experiences. I think that's what rates MVP so much higher, is that they take the pilot game MVP 2003, it's not that great, and now they get to play their next one with the full cycle no haing to build from the ground up, and it looks to be so good just because it improved so much, when really it's just about up to par with ESPN.

I don't trust the ratings very much.
Look at it this way - many of the review sites have their own game stores which are huge sellers of EA games.
What is the saying "don't kill the golden goose"? or something like that. EA is the golden goose.

Espn is going to be the best baseball game of the year if it ever gets released. Its an improvement off of last years title which can still stand toe-toe with the new games. The reviews have bashed extra features that nobody uses like FP , and have only recieved beta copies of the game.

Which would explain differences in scores between ESPN and MVP so far except the fact that MVP doesn't even HAVE a woreking franchise. All the bells and whistles in the world ain't gonna help ya if you end up with 40-year-old teams with 15 pitchers apiece on 'em.

Which only reinforces my notion that game reviewers are generally lazy imbeciles who couldn't get a job writing for anyone else. They make these reviews with as little reserach as possible and devalue any assertion that their claims are inaccurate until they're actually caught pissing on our heads (like that guy at Gamespot that got nailed for not playing some MMO game long enough - the developers had logs of the time he actually spent playing the game online - forget which game).

After which they'll still tell you with a straight face and a little attitude that they really did play the game long enough to make an educational and valuable review. Like i said before, fans always provide the accurate reviews. Anything written by some... person who's being paid to write or who writes in some official capacity is garbage. Usually not worth the time to read it except to understand what the features are... and most of the time they don't even get THAT right.

Folks, we need to listen ONLY to the people that actually PLAY games, not to people who only play games so that they can review them, and spend the rest of their time playing freakin' N-Gage while their kid's at soccer practice or whatever, and couldn't tell you what bump mapping was if it came up and bit 'em in the ***.
