i know in ASB, if you create your own match, it will show you your record and rank in the game lobby...maybe it's the same for ESPN.

Re: Wow. All that anticipation for nothing.
Well. Crap.
Online play is well....merely ok, if that. I'm not going to go into the various options that you simply can't use online(camera angles being a BIIIG one) and just say that it's choppy. Laggy. About 20-30% of the time when I swing the bat, the bat doesn't swing. Sometimes when it swings, it check swings when I don't want it to. Sometimes it slows down to a fast slideshow. Most of the time it's decent, but you can't NOT swing at pitches you want to swing at just MOST of the time.
Everything else is great so far. I haven't been able to play much of my season (in the first game), but from what I can tell the single player game modes are great. The controls are responsive, everything looks and plays great. The issues I had with WSB2K3 seem to have been corrected, and the game in general seems to be precisely what I want.....realistic. I've found the ball physics to be pretty amazing. Even without the online mode, I'd happily plunk down my money for the game.
Sigh....I'm just sorely disappointed by the online play. Maybe they'll be able to optimize it in the future...who knows. Wow...I just have never felt so disappointed by something as trivial as a video game. I suppose when you wait for years for something(a good online baseball game for the Xbox) and it ends up lackluster, that'll do it to ya. Eh...what can you do? Guess I'll get back to enjoying my Cards season....Comment

I played three innings of the offline game. I dunno how it is, really.
Online play is a very big factor for me when it comes to sports games. In fact, if a sports game goes online, and it's done well, that's all I play. I greatly prefer a human mind to AI.
So I'm the wrong person to ask about the single-player game.

I am the same way with online play - Its the best part of a sports game, its the future of gaming, and I expect the game companies to produce a fully developed online product.
Honestly in my opinion i think you should get used to the camera angle and the strikezone being there and stop whining. But again, i think that sega/vc should know that they need to do a better job , so maybe we need some "whiners" to speak up and complain.
Online play is the future of gaming. Theres no excuse for the companies to slack on options and features online.
For those who think online play is wack - From a purely gaming perspective you get to play against true intelligence = not a.i.
Playing franchise is great , especially the elements like building your team etc.. but the pure gameplay and challenge does not compare to playing another human being.
Things like Sliders and options should be fully customizable but they should be set in the create a game stage BEFORE the game when a player is creating a game setup. And if the programmers are too limited to do remote machine individual camera angles and such - then this should also be a part of PRe -game Options.
Playing with the default settings and strike zone will not ruin my online. The other guy will have to use the same settings.
but i agree that it sucksComment

LAG?
i hate lag.
here is a tip but its mostly stating the obvious - make sure you or your opponent is not downloading flix or something off of kaaza while you play online. This happened quite a few times with Espn football where some knucklehead would dLing mp3s and there would be instances of lag.
Im sure u probably weren't DLing stuff while playing , but if you get lag its a good idea to remind the guy your playing. online play with 2 highspeed connects and no additional inet use shouldn't lag but sometimes the servers are not too greatComment

Re: Wow. All that anticipation for nothing.
Sega doesn't yet "get" XBL. Remember ESPN FB? Same exact thing, no changes whatsoever, and on default the running game was a joke, therefore making online play of the game worthless.
Leaks on this year's ESPN FB sound as though online is this year's focus so maybe that will change. Can only hope.Comment
