    Getting Hammered

Maybe I just suck at the game. I can't stop the CPU from mashing me. I pitch around teh corners using the meter and everytime I fill it to the max, I'll get hammered. I'm wondering if this causes me to groove more pitches. Other than that, this game is really growing on me. (Read my impressions.)

    Re: Getting Hammered

I am having the same problem on All-Star and Legend...I think I just have not figured out how to use the effort meter properly.

In the manual they mention in passing that the amount of effort you should use is dependent on the type of pitch. I assume this means that if you, say, put to much force behind a curveball the curveball might flatten out. And I know too much effort equals loss of control equals hanging curveball down the heart of the plate equals homerun cut scene.

That is what has been happening to me anyway. But it also seems to be dependent on the control of the pitcher. When I am using K Wood I can throw hard and still have ok control. Hey, the pitching system is pretty deep in this game! Anyway I think practice and really getting to know the limits of your pitching staff is to key to solving your problem (and mine).
    Thanks for the advice.

I was getting rocked as well until I just started tapping the pitch button so nothing regitered on the meter. You have a lot more control when you do this and your pitcher doesn't tire nearly as quick. I now only fill the meter on rare ocassions when I'm ahead in the count and looking for a strikeout. My pitching has been a lot better this way.

WTF? I'm not doubting you, here, but it certainly does seem odd that the meter would have such an adverse effect on pitch quality. It's almost like you don't *want* to fill it, where I had assumed you wanted to fill it appropriately based on the pitch type (more for fastball, maybe half or 3/4 for curveball).

Yeah, I know, I made a post in the glitches thread about it, because it certainly seems counter-intuitive to what the effort meter is for. And after getting hammered myself, I'm very cautious with the effort meter now. I try to only ever use it on fastballs, I've gotten hurt trying to use it on changeups or breaking pitches.

You can mess with the sliders to reduce the pitch accuracy if you find it too easy, or so I am told.
