ESPN NFL 2K5 would have SLAYED Madden 2005 (IMHO) would have been far better than Madden. No contest. And the same goes for ESPN NFL 2K4 versus Madden 2004.
I even wrote this article on my own site to try to get "Madden Fanboys" to try ESPN this year...
(that was originally posted on the day after ESPN NFL 2K5 was released.)
But thats the thing.. VC is always on the cusp of the most brilliant game ever created.. be it football, baseball, NHL, or basketball...
only to find within 2 hrs of playing that theres big problems in paradise. I know all games have bugs, but the kind of bugs VC's games ship with are of the sort that you just go "What the????"
And, lets be honest, its become a trend.
Again, I think VC needs to use Op. Sports people to playtest their games before they release. Heck, I'd volunteer my time for it, so would probably 100% of you guys. We'd be honored to do so.
What bothered me most about the NFL 2K5 game was that they released a month earlier than EA's game. I wish they would have spent 3 more weeks with playtesting and released only one week before EA's game, in the interest of bug fixing.
Myself and some others actually trying to lobby some people at VC about still making a "pro-football game" and perhaps seeking a "Hall Of Fame" license. They could have classic "teams" (though not authentically named) with the team color scheme, with the real names of the HOF players .. -with the rest being editable.) Also, they could conceivably reproduce "Classic" stadiums (if it is a currently destroyed/unused NFL stadium- such as Cleve. Municipal, 3 Rivers, RFK, the Vet, The LA Mausoleum, Shea Stadium, etc... No response to my efforts yet, but any football announcement from T2 will probably be coming within the next 2 months (if any at all.)
Of course, people still call me a VC "*****", which clearly isn't accurate. I just want them to go the extra mile on the polish.
