Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders

Today I tried JMan's hitting sliders (but knocked down success and contact by 5 pts respectively. John Maine ended up with 8'ks, but definitely has less control than Santana, so ended up giving up 5 in a 5-3 loss including one HR.

Myself, I am still not hitting great, but in my defense, Arroyo (yes Arroyo) was throwing some sick breaking balls and it I am still seeking a good set of numbers to decrease painting the corners so much. Everybodys suggestions are widely varied at this point.

I did get one off the wall for a double for delgado, and one for a triple for beltran...Later Bruce completely botched a beltran line drive that ended up as an inside the park HR. So essentially I have my first HR of the season, but come on....

I will stick with this set for a couple more games against the lower end of the pitching staff to see how I do, but might need to bump up that contact slider again by 5, we'll see.

One thing I do have to say though is that combined hits for the first two games on this season is around 13 a game, so quite realistic, dont know if that is the patch doing its job better or what.

JMan, did you ever decide to change your settings?

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders

Just played a really game against the Red Sox as my beloved Yanks

      BOS 3 6 0
      NYY 5 6 0

      W- Marte
      L- Okajima

      HR
      BOS- Pedroia, Bay
      NYY- Rodriguez(2), Teixeira

      Summary:
It was Beckett versus Burnett in this matchup and both really sparkled. Burnett struck out 5 while Beckett only struck out 3. Every time I took the lead Boston came back with a run in the top half of the next inning. My 2-1 lead was erased by Pedroia's HR in the top of the second of a mistake pitch. Then I took a lead in the bottom of the 6th with a Teixeira HR, but Jason Bay knocked one out off a flat slider from Burnett to tie the game in the 7th. Bottom 9th ARod hits game-winning HR with Teixeira on first.

      Pros:
      - I used the left stick for 2 of my three homers, proving that you can hit homers without using it.

      - Great variety, I have changed these sliders and I've won and lost games as close as this one as well as won and lost games that were blow outs...

      Cons:
      - Still too many strikes thrown by the CPU...I don't know what I have to do to average more than a walk a game.

      - Seeing many singles and not many extra base hits (In this game, both teams combined hit 7 singles and 5 HRs. No doubles or triples)

Any suggestions on what I can do to make the pitching for the AI a little more realistic? I realize Beckett is a great pitcher, but most of the time he's got me 0-2 and I usually take the first strike too.

Is there variable stuff in this game? Burnett's slider wasn't breaking or darting across the strike zone in this game. If there is variable stuff in this game, my hats are off to VC, because that's good. I've seen pitcher's top speed vary from game to game but not their actual pitches.

All I need is for the AI pitcher to throw more balls and for me to hit more extra base hits on a decently regular basis. Any tips I would greatly appreciate!

What are you using for your user batting sliders (success, contact, power).

Pitching-wise, I know there is a break influence slider that can either increase or decrease the effectiveness. I dont know what you use for gesture, but the higher, the more you can pinpoint.

As for better results on computer pitching, I have no idea, but I am starting to see more sets where the user sets the computer strike zone and strike tendency all the way to zero. If you have time to try those, I would be interested in the results.

Basically, I ask a lot of questions each day because I have a 4 month old baby, and due to family time, I get up at 4 am (yup) and get one game in each day, so I want the best sliders available so I dont feel cheated for getting up so early

No I didn't, but I haven't played anymore since my last post...wasn't feeling too well last night, so crashed pretty early.

I will play game 3 of the NYY/BAL series this afternoon (prolly around 2pm EST), and let you guys know the numbers and tell ya if I decide to fine tune anything. Good luck, and any suggestions you have from my set are more than welcome!

Sweet, let us know your results.
I will give you set a try tonight, I am just not seeing enought offense with BFJ's set.

How did default legend work for you?
I remember reading you played on default legend for a while.
Were you able to hit HRS on default legend.
Why did you quite playing on default legend?

lol, this is going to sound ridiculous, but I really can't remember. I guess I just figure sliders are there for a reason, so it needed tweaking. I've used so many different sets, but I like BFJ's with a few slight tweaks to my liking (as he suggested, that they were a BASE).

I did try a little 3 inning, Mets/Yankees action earlier, because I wanted to see if I had a ton of offense vs Santana...I had 1 run on 1 hit (small ball, not a HR), so I think I might be ok with my set.

I pitched Pettite, because I wanted to see how a good lineup (NYM) would hit my 4th starter, and I gave up a 2 run HR to Sheffield in the bottom of the 3rd.

I think I'm pleased overall, I'm getting a little later start than I wanted (was out by the pool, it's 75 here lol)...I will post results though soon!

I have a few questions about which sliders do what, as I didn't want to create a new topic just for my question I figured I'd post it here and see if anyone can answer them.

I'm using all-star default with turning the AI Strike-zone down at 10 and the Pitcher Fatigue at 45 I believe. My first question is which Slider would give me (the hitter) more foul balls, and would this slider knock down my total hits? If not, which one would? My next question is which slider would make the CPU hitter just a little more patient? I've been around 60 pitches in 5 innings which is pretty good, but I want a little more realism there, and it's not like the pitching isn't fun. That's it if anyone could answer any of these I would appreciate it. I'm trying to get this right before I start a franchise with the opening day rosters...as soon as they come out.

There is no actual FOUL BALL Slider like last year. My guess would be upping the Pitch Speed. As for the CPU hitter's being patient, again no slider for that, but if you wanna try & get your pitch count up BUMP the Gesture Recognition Slider up & LOWER the Timing Slider in the USER Pitching section

Ive heard since the second patch, Holding up on the left analog does not do any good..Is this true? I started using these sliders three games ago and neither my Orioles nor the Yankees have hit homeruns. I have tried increasing power and success but nothing. Any thoughts?

Holy Moly am I getting frustrated.

Maybe it is because I only get a chance to play about one game a day, but it just seems like my guys are just struggling to hit. I have success at 60, contact 50 and Power 70, but cant seem to get more than a smattering of singles and doubles. Mostly the infield makes amazing snags and I am nowhere near the warning track. Is this just my timing is terrible? I also feel I take pitches in futility as I continually watch the CPU pitcher paint the corners with wicked stuff. If the computer continually is pitching to the outside corners, is it is by best interest to use the right stick in that direction to make better contact?

I am happy with the pitching aspect. I avg about 7-10 k's with about 8 hits and the occasional hr, but man...I need some runs across the plate soon!

                              Thoughts? Besides me being terrible.

FenwayMac, trying turning down the Batting Pitch Influence slider. You won't need to make perfect contact to get solid hits.
