Yeah, I saw the pitch success raised to 75 which I figured was a counter balance. The question I then had is would this raised pitch success result in less walks as the CPU paints the black easier? I noticed CPU strike zone tendency is at 0 though (I usually play with it at 5) so that should counter balance that. I have a little slider research of my own going at the moment but your sliders seem really solid so I'm going to give them a shot.

It looks like the 40 60 100 cpu batting sliders should give them more extra base hits but lower the total number of hits. That's a good thing, I get way too many singles.

I see you lowered fielder speed to 50. I did this recently as well. With the default 60 it seemed like nothing fell in the gaps. I was able to get to balls with McLouth that even Willies Mays would've let drop.

How does user power shake out with the 50 50 75 setting? I play with the Braves so I don't have many power guys (you play with the Yanks, right?) but my power numbers are 10 homeruns shy of what the Braves are doing in real life. Pretty low. Mainly I'm low on extra base hits, too many singles. Do these sliders produce an accurate variety of hit types?

    Thanks Joe!

The Power #'s are pretty good. I personally use the L-Analog Stick a lot which helps in getting HR's. I haven't fired the game-up the game & really played it in about a month, but in the time I was playing regularly I found HR's to be @ a realistic rate. I believe right now Tex has something like 18 HR with a couple of games before the All-Star Break.

1 thing I want to stress is if you find yourself hitting the AI a little too much don't change any hitting sliders. Move the AI Pitching Composure Slider Lower

The higher the AI composure slider is, the more easy the AI get rattled, right? So wouldn't raising that make it easier to hit when they are under pressure?

I played 3 innings on my lunch break. Braves vs. Brewers.

        Suppan vs. Kawakami

Top First - McLouth down swinging, 1 out. Kelly Johnson line drive single to right. Chipper flew out to deep right. McCann got a low fastball and slapped it down the left field line with the defense playing him to pull. It went into the corner allowing Johnson to score from first on a close play at the plate. I haven't seen a hit like this one before and I attribute it to the 65 batting pitch influence. Great to see. Garrett anderson flew out to end the inning.

Bottom first - Pegged the first batter on first pitch. Next batter struck out swinging. Braun the grounded into a double play. 3 outs.

Top second - Escobar and Kotchman ground out. Church walks. Then Suppan walks Kawakami. That brings up McLouth who strikes out...again. Same pitch too, swinging at a sinker on the outside corner at the knees. Three out.

Bottom second - Fielder singles to left. Hart down swinging. Next two batters singled but Fielder held up at third as he had to go half way and see if the bloop single was going to drop. Struck out the 8th batter. That brought up Suppan. Went 2-2 on him and threw him and letter high fastball slightly outside that he was able to loft over the short stop and score two runs. I got the next batter out.

Top Third - This inning was uneventful. I singled with someone, can't recall, but didn't score.

Bottom Third - First batter was retied. Braun came up and had a 10 pitch at bat which he battled for a walk. Fielder flew out to right. Then Braun was thrown out stealing during Hart's at bat. Three out.

So after three innings the line is:

        Braves 1 3 0
        Brewers 2 4 0

        Braves 2 singles, 1 double, 2 walks
Brewers 4 singles, 1 walk. 2 of the brewers singles were line drives, two were bloop style hits.

It's hard to tell much from 3 innings but the CPU has only hit singles so far which worries me. I expect to see some big offense from the brewers, lots of extra base hits as they always hit me hard.

i think you'd want to LOWER the AI pitcher composure rating, correct? raising makes them rattled more easily...lowering it gives them more composure as this slider would affect them LESS.

marsh & blazzen, you are both correct. That was my error & I fixed my post to reflect that. If your hitting the AI a little too much LOWER the AI Pitching Composure Slider. Don't change any hitting sliders.

BTW I upped the User Pitch Composure Slider to 100. Keep me posted on how this works. It actually should be 50.

I like the idea of user composure at 100. I rarely feel pressured on the mound. Hopefully this should make me walk a few more guys and give up some extra base hits on balls i miss with over the plate.

I was playing with it at 75. I don't notice a HUGE difference between 75 and 100 but I've only played 3 innings so far.

how often do youguys strikeout? I really nonly do 1 or 2 a game with the contact so high? is there a way to go less contact with keeping everything else simlier?

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders

I finished the Braves Brewers game.

                  Kawakami vs. Suppan

                  Braves 3 9 0
                  Brewers 4 7 0

Braves 6 singles, 2 doubles, solo homer by Chipper. Walked 3 times. 5 strikeouts.
Brewers 6 singles, (1) 2 run homer by Braun. 1 walk, 2 hit batters. 5 strikeouts.

Brewers had nothing but dinky singles until the 8th. Score was 3-2, Moylan was pitching. Weeks led off and struck out. Then Hall singled. This jacked Moylan's composure. First pitch to Braun missed badly. Second pitch was a thigh high sinker on the outside corner which he hit out in right center. Gonzo came in and got fielder and hart. Hoffman came in and got the save for the Brewers.

I'm somewhat concerned of the weak contact other than the homerun by the CPU, but I'll play a few more games before changing anything.

If anything I think the user Gesture slider is too low. I can spot pitches too easy and don't walk enough people with them that low. I'd probably raise that up to 75ish and see if that helps the CPU offense at the same time.

Overall for the first game these sliders played well.

                    I DOMINATED the Brewers.

                    Braves 8 14 0
                    Brewers 0 2 0

Hanson vs. Some right hander that didnt last long.

                    Braves 8 singles 5 doubles 1 homer 2 walks 8 strikeouts
                    Brewers 2 singles, 0 walks, 9 strikeouts

Chipper hit another homerun. I've been able to time some inside fastballs and just crush them the past few games with chipper. Think I'm going to go back to the sliders I was using previously.

What would you do to make pitching harder? In 6 games (with the Braves, against the Phillies and Nats) I have a 1.38 team ERA. In the two minor league games I've played, I have a 1.59 ERA. I have 36 K's to 7 BB's in 52 innings for the MLB team, and 11k to 0bb in 17 innings for the AAA team. The AAA team has only given up 2 extra base hits (both 3B's - the AAA stadium is WAY too huge), and the MLB team has only given up 4 2b's, 1 3b, and 2 hr. The worst ERA on my team is 3.86. My bullpen has a 0.69 era.

you could raise the CPU batting success to 60.

then start incrementally raising the user pitcher ratings to make things a bit more difficult - pitch meter speed another 10 might make it tougher as well.

Well, the current Joe sliders are certainly making for some nail biter games... I just took a no-hitter into the 9th with Brad penny before giving up a single to the first batter in the bottom of the 9th... Took Penny out and replaced him with Pap, and immediately lost the game with a Crawford triple that tied the score, and a bloop single to center that walked it off on me. 2-1 loss and Penny flirts with the no-hit bid.

                            Red Sox - 1 8 1
                            Rays - 2 3 0

                            Great game.

You are dead on my friend. I am considering editing the stats for the closers in the game to really make them a lot nastier. I am better off leaving in Beckett with almost no stamina than to bring Paps in to try and close the game with runners on.

As many games as I have blown, I have also won games I have no business winning against the likes of Mo or Percival. As much as I like to win, taking 4 straight hits off Mo in the 9th and scoring 3 runs to win it, is lame at best....

                                Will work on that somehow.
