    Re: mkharsh33's sliders

I am using your sliders and your August 5th roster in my franchise as the Pirates, I have not hit one homerun and usually just get singles, I have hit 2 doubles and 1 triple, now I know its the Pirates so I dont know if I suck or if the team sucks, I tried using the left stick up to get lift but it never works and I usually hit something weak to someone. I have played about 6 games into my franchise.

The pitching is maybe to good? I dominate even with the Pirates crappy pitchers. I can post some stats of some games if interested, last one was a 2-1 win in 15 innings, Where Hanrahan came in for relief and threw 4 innings of no hit ball with 4 k's.

Starters go really deep against me, I lowered fatigue to 35 and they still get to the 8th, and I try to take pitches, but I've been caught looking on 3 straight pitches doing that :P

      Re: mkharsh33's sliders

try raising batter SUCCESS...i'm not sure that contact will do more than allow for more singles - but success might actually raise the ability to hit for more power.

i wouldn't lower the pitching ratings...i feel like i'm really, really close to my final set, at which point i'll start a franchise. and the only thing i'm still tweaking is:

      1) the user pitcher composure...right now i'm going to try 80, but i'm not sure if 90 will be my final setting. but 100 is just whacked out LOL!!

      2) user hit success - i'm thinking of moving it up to 55 - but again, i'm not sure.

i can tell a huge difference in the games i've played. the rays are built for power and score runs...when i use the indians i struggle (but hit a homer with shoppach last night)...i was the blue jays and scored 3 runs but it was a pitching duel on both sides.

i'm really seeing that this game makes you be VERY patient at the plate and make the CPU throw a lot of pitches. the more tired they get the more they're apt to implode. plus, most relievers have awful pitch type ratings, so like in real baseball, it's to your benefit to make them go to the pen.

but in spite of its flaws, i'm really enjoying this game and also like the variety i'm getting...

        Re: mkharsh33's sliders

Do you use the left stick to gain lift or directional hit? I am also getting thrown out every steal attempt with McCutchen and Milledge is there a trick to stealing?

About your rosters, are all the prospects the Pirates traded for in their fire sale included. Also if you leave the edit CPU rosters unchecked at dynasty startup then CPU teams will call up there guys that are in the minors due to injury, FYI. Thanks for all the work on the sliders and rosters, makes the game more enjoyable.

          Re: mkharsh33's sliders

regarding the stealing...it's tough. i've toyed with that slider but i can never steal. part of it is that i think i've made the pitching sliders for the cpu too good - so that effects stealing (specifically how long the pitcher holds the ball). it's all about timing, of which i apparently have none (LOL!).

i don't play franchise, so i don't know. you might want to call all those injured guys up before starting a franchise...not sure how those are handled during one, but it wouldn't take you all that long to go through each team and move them up and then go through the various lineups and pitching staffs, noting your changes.

not sure about all the pirates players...since the game doesn't allow full player name edits (only 150) it's impossible to name all of them. any trades where actual prospects were moved and that were named have been.

the thing that sucks about 2k share is that once you download the file of another person, all THEIR work is tied to that specific file...meaning, you cannot rename any players. even though you now take ownership of the file (even if you resave it as your own roster file) you still can't rename any of the fake players. i was hoping i might have worked around that by just re-saving the file from 2k share as a different file name, but it didn't work.

            Re: mkharsh33's sliders

Cool, yeah I was saying that if you do start a franchise and leave the edit CPU teams roster option un-checked the CPU teams WILL manage themselves and call up their good players, tried it both ways if you check it you have to do all their call ups yourself.

Just lost to the Astros 4-0 Bud Norris and co. threw a 4 hit shutout, I cant hit for crap, least not with the Pirates. Still fun though, better then winning every game

              Re: mkharsh33's sliders

yeah, i have to agree with you. i hate losing, but then again, i hate winning every game...some games i struggle on offense and some i don't.

a big part of it is when i get frustrated and then i start first-pitch swinging. i tell myself not do it.

if you're having trouble, you might want to slightly raise the user directional hitting a bit. i have it at 25 because i felt that anything higher i could place the ball wherever i wanted it.

but work the count and get your pitch...and the HIGH FASTBALLS are the ones you want. i've notice that i struggle with breaking pitches - you can raise (i think) the user pitch recognition a bit - i believe that will help you identify the type of pitch a little more quickly.

i didn't get to play last night. i played an exhibition game of ncaa football 10 and then updated my rosters with sunday's transactions (had to create a pitcher and get scouting reports on the internet)...once i did that i about fell asleep holding my controller.

but i'm on vacation this week (the kids head back to school in 2 weeks)...so i'll be puttering around the house and then my wife and kids are off to the beach in sarasota this weekend.

thanks for the replies and keep me posted on your findings...it does help.

Few more updates (8-9-09) - most noticeably is the pitcher composure at 100 for CPU and 80 for USER. i don't really notice much on the CPU's part, but you may want to lower it slightly for the user (i've seen it show up in ugly ways late in games - more blown saves which is why i've lowered it from 100 to 80). Also, I changed the steal success / catcher throw-out success ratings. Since I've lowered my baserunning speed i need to now compensate for that in the running game. And the tweaking continues...

Your feedback is appreciated from your experiences. These might not be for everyone, but I'm enjoying them and have tested them extensively.
These are looking really solid MK. I'm going to play a week or so without changing anything, I promise!! Then I'll let you know how I go. I've just started a new Mets franchise simming to the current date so it should be fun. I'm back playing the Show a little so it might take me a few days to test these extensively but I'm looking forward to it. Plus there is the small matter of a little game called Madden coming out on Thursday.

Anyway I appreciate all of your hard work, you've really turned this game around for me. Without sliders like these this baby would of been on ebay weeks ago.

                  Re: mkharsh33's sliders

                  updated first post...

2 changes: raised both user and cpu batting success to 55 (up from 50)...the offense (mostly for the user) is just too weak. i feel that power at 90 is good and that the contact numbers are fine as well - but they're just not as successful getting hits.

                  a couple thoughts...

                  - i don't want to raise the zone hitting influence for the user because i want to swing and MISS at pitches that i should. i felt when this was higher i was hitting balls out of the zone and never striking out for my mistakes.

                  - i'm considering lowering the CPU's fielder speed - i know some don't prefer this, but i still feel like the cpu is able to track down balls much too quickly. but that still doesn't account for the lack of power, so i may wait and do some more testing with the success level at 55 and go from there.

                  - i don't want to touch the pitching sliders because i feel like i got them right...i want them to be challenging.

(for example - i was cleveland...laffey pitching. i had the bases loaded and nobody out. the ball was bouncing all over the place (ie. composure thingy) and i was still able to strike out the first two batters. i then got the third out on a deep fly ball to right. i got the outs, but they weren't easy and i probably got lucky on a couple strikeouts on breaking pitches. but i feel pretty good about pitching... my bullpen came in and blew it late (so true to life) as it was tied at 1 through seven innings until my pen gave up 4 runs in 2 innings - i lost 5-1. they had 11 hits (only 1 double, 1 ITP homer) and i had 7 hits (1 double, and an ITP homer by sizemore as the CF made a stupid play missing a sharply hit ground ball that seemed to go right through his body.) ironically enough, i gave up an inside job as well (andrus) as sizemore camped under a ball and then conveniently missed it, watching it roll back to the wall some 40 feet behind him. lovely...

I lowered CPU fielder speed on my set, I was getting gappers and down the line shots tracked down by Ryan Church and Garrett Anderson of the Braves, I didn't know those guys were so fast :P

                      Re: mkharsh33's sliders

I played my first game with these sliders this afternoon before work and it was quite realistic. I lost 5-2 to the D-Backs. It was a tight game until the 7th when they loaded the bases on a walk and two singles and then promptly hit it out of the park. Having the user pitcher composure up at 80 is brutal. After the second single my pitcher was freaking out, the ball icon was bouncing all over the plate. I tried aiming a fastball off the plate but it just drifted back over the middle and you know the rest. I managed some offense myself but any scoring was sabotaged by dumb base running.

Eg. My runner on 1st doesn't advance far enough on a fly ball even when I can tell its going to drop for a single, then is thrown out at second.

By the way what is with this game not letting you do a mound visit when you desperately need one? Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't, wierd.

My only concern was that the CPU threw strikes like nobody's business, over 75%. I hope this is just an aberration as I don't really want to touch the pitch success slider for a few games. Still, great sliders I feel. The pitcher composure changes the entire feel of the game.

the strikes thing is irritating...and i have both of those values set at "0" - you'd think that would have more of an impact. though i did play as the rays the other night (me) vs. mariners (cpu) and i walked 6 times (2 intentional)...go figure.

and the other thing you mentioned about the pitcher needing a mound visit - yeah, frustrating too. sometimes i sit there mashing on the "back" button and then actually look at the screen and see i don't have that option (LOL!!). i thought the rule was two visits per inning (in which you MUST remove him on the second trip out), or am i wrong on that?

jgofett: good call on the speed thing...i think i'm definitely going to lower this. i hit a rifle shot down the line and then the ball kinda died...but the field did his superman impersonation and tracked it down like nobody's business...long single.

updated the first post...i'm not sure i can take this game any longer. just too many flaws and can't get the sliders right after two months of continual tweaking. it's not much fun any longer, to be quite honest.

Man we are in synch MK, I played another couple of games last night and got totally fed up with it as well. There is a lot to like here but also far too much that drives you crazy. I really want this game to be good so I'm going to give it a little while longer to stew. But the fact that we can't find the right sliders is annoying. Last year I had a great time with SF Giants PBA sliders, a great time!

I hope the game turns around for you dude.

PS. I think your right regarding the mound visits, 2 per inning. I think this is just broken in the game. It has the potential to drive you nuts when your pitching is freaking out with the bases loaded and there is nothing you can do, when clearly you have two visits up your sleeve.

thanks, man! i am getting so p!ssed at this game it isn't funny... honestly, i'm just about to give up.

so, i've spent hours retooling things...i don't know, but i'm gonna give these a shot. massive changes, but i'm just not sure there is anything that can help this game.

it appears that there are too many sliders that are "linked" together, and there appears to be a way to fix one thing, yet create a new hole in another.

but check out the first post again...back the the drawing board.

dude, its all abut the pitcher composure sliders. lower them. Again,, I have mine at 0. and Im finally loving this game.
The bone-headed plays in this game are directly related to these sliders.
The only recommendation I would have with the lower composure ratings, is to lower the pitcher fatigue. I lowered those to 45.

The game will be enjoyable and competitive, without the frustration.
teams still rally, everything to love about baseball is back with the composure sliders at 0. Im about to update some more of the games Ive played under the set slider composer to 0 slider.

Try incorporating that into your sliders and see what happens.
