    Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

So, let's begin discussing sliders for this years game!

First off, I play exclusively with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves as a team have strong starting pitching, line drive hitters, but very little power. As a result, if you play with a team like the Phillies who have a lot of power, these settings might result in too many homeruns.

I use standard controls (swing stick and break point pitching).

As I update my settings, I will UPDATE THIS FIRST POST. I will also make a reply showing/discussing the changes as I go along.

    UPDATED 3/28/2010 @ 1:30pm EASTERN

    PITCHER FATIGUE: 60

    BATTING: (HUM/CPU)

    Contact: 40/55
    Power: 40/85
    Bunt Contact: 50/60
    Bunt Success: 50/60

    PITCHING: (HUM)

    Pitch Meter Speed: 85
    Pitch Speed: 65
    Pitch Break Influence: 90
    Pitcher Composure Influence: 75

    PITCHING: (CPU)
    Pitch Success: 65
    Strike Zone Tendency: 45
    Pitcher Composure Influence: 25

    FIELDING: (HUM/CPU)

    Throw Meter Influence: 0
    Fielder Speed: 25/25

    RUNNING: (HUM)

    Base Runner Speed: 55
    Pickoff Success: 25
    Catcher Throw-Out Success: 60

    RUNNING: (CPU)

    Hit 'N Run Tendency: 85
    Sac Bunt Tendency: 75
    Squeeze Bunt Tendency: 25
    Base Running Aggression: 75
    Steal Aggression: 65
    Steal Success: 50

The only other setting I've tweaked so far is the batting camera. I moved the zoom setting to 1. I sit about 8-10' away from a 42" Sharp Aquos and sometimes I have trouble picking up the ball because of the zoom. This helped a lot.

Let me know what you guys think. DISCUSS!!!

I think the CPU fielder speed needs to drop more......around 15-20 to counteract the strong arms.

Only problem with dropping it TOO low is that balls start falling in that shouldn't.

With it set at 40 I'm able to get doubles out of balls hit down the line. I've ALMOST made a triple with Matt Diaz on a ball hit into the Left center alley but was narrowly thrown out. A jose reyes or shane victorino would've made it standing up.

I may try dropping it another 5 or 10 points for testing purposes though.

I imagine the throwing arms will be subject to the patch coming up.

Agreed. Even setting it to 0 feels pretty good actually. Same for user fieling speed too. You have to set it at the same speed as the AI otherwise you have an unfair advantage.

This is a preliminary set. Once I get a more solid set I'll put 'em on there.

                    Blazzen,

I've started to come up with a preliminary set of sliders for 2K10 as well. I remember using your sliders for last year's game, and I was really impressed!

If it's cool with you, I'd like to post my base set that I've been working on, so that you and others can compare and contrast them with your set. I'm a firm believer that the best slider sets are the product of community feedback and lots and lots and lots of testing, so the more people we have testing, the faster we'll be able to come up with a decent set.

Anyway, let me know if it's okay to post my set. I don't want to take over your thread by any means.

                    Cheers.

Right on, dude. Here is what I've been working on. Like you, I started with the default All-Star sliders, with my main emphasis being on realistic number of hits, hit variety, and pitch counts.

                        ITBEME23'S SLIDERS:

                        PITCHER FATIGUE: 70

                        BATTING: (HUM/CPU)

                        Contact: 40/55
                        Power: 40/65
                        Bunt Contact: 40/60
                        Bunt Success: 45/60

                        PITCHING: (HUM)

                        Pitch Meter Speed: 75
                        Pitch Speed: 60
                        Pitch Break Influence: 90
                        Pitcher Composure Influence: 65

                        PITCHING: (CPU)
                        Pitch Success: 60
                        Strike Zone Tendency: 50
                        Pitcher Composure Influence: 35

                        FIELDING: (HUM/CPU)

                        Throw Meter Influence: 65
                        Fielder Speed: 40/40

                        RUNNING: (HUM)

                        Base Runner Speed: 50
                        Pickoff Success: 35
                        Catcher Throw-Out Success: 60

                        RUNNING: (CPU)

                        Hit 'N Run Tendency: 65
                        Sac Bunt Tendency: 60
                        Squeeze Bunt Tendency: 65
                        Base Running Aggression: 65
                        Steal Aggression: 60
                        Steal Success: 50

                        - BTW, I just got finished trying out your sliders for a game against the Phillies with my Dodgers. It didn't go very well. I ended up losing 9-2, but it was a pitcher's duel all the way until the 6th. Halladay pitched for them, and I had Kershaw. It was 1-0 Phillies up until the top of the 6th, with my only real mistake giving a solo shot up to Chase Utley in the bottom of the 1st. I put a fast ball up and away on a 3-1 count, and he took me yard. With the fatigue at 70, Kershaw was tired going into the 6th. I think I was at about 85 pitches when I gave up a hit to Polanco, struck out Utley, walked Howard, then I gave up a single to Werth. With bases loaded and one out in the inning, I decided to yank Kershaw out after about 90 pitches, and I put in Ramon Troncoso. Ground ball specialist my ***....I promptly give up a single to Raul Ibanez, and the merry-go-'round starts to turn. I ended up giving up 5 runs and 6 hits in that inning which pretty much killed me.

                        Final Box Score:
                        PHI: 9 15 0
                        LAD: 2 7 0

                        - A few things bothered me from this game.

1). I gave up 15 hits. Granted, I had kept the Phillies lineup pretty much in check until the 6th, but after that it was a hit fest. The Dodgers have the best bullpen in the NL, and I was extremely disappointed with giving up that many hits.

2.) Roy Halladay throwing a 137 pitch complete game! From what I could find, he has never thrown more than 130 in a game before, and that was in 2007. I know that it's only 7 more pitches, but this was with Pitcher Fatigue at 70. Keep in mind, that Kershaw was completely gassed after 90 pitches, and Halladay threw nearly 50 pitches more. This makes me think that we may have a serious fatigue issue on our hands.

3.) It seems like the only extra base hits I'm getting are coming off of HRs. I don't know if anybody else is experiencing this, but it may be something to keep an eye on.

                        - I'm off to try a rematch against the Phillies using my sliders, and see what comes out of it.

                        Cheers.

                          Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

                          ^ Good post.

I haven't tweaked pitcher fatigue yet but I need to. I had Santana pitch into the 10th inning on me.

I get plenty of doubles playing with the Braves. I believe a line I had from a game last night was 8 singles 3 doubles 1 homerun. I haven't seen a triple yet, but I did come really close with Matty Diaz getting gunned down at third once.

This is the first time I've started from scratch with sliders. Usually I've started off with BFNJoes sliders and gone from there. I planned to start at allstar and tweak as necessary as I went along until the game played solidly. From there I will leave it and once opening day rosters come out I'll start my Braves franchise.

One thing I suggest when testing sliders is don't go against or pitch with really high rated pitchers like Halladay or Santana because you will get non typical results. Since I test with the Braves who are rated 81 OVR I like to go against teams like the Rockies and Cubs because they are similarly rated as the Braves. Giants are similarly rated too, however they have 89 rated pitching so it will play into a pitchers duel more often than not.

                          Keep the feedback coming!

                              Blazzen,

Decided to take your advice, and play a more comparable opponent. I decided to take on the D-Backs, and of course, I ended up going against Dan Haren. I didn't fair much better against the Snakes than I did the Phillies, as I lost 6-3. I again gave up double-digit hits (17), but I think that has more to do with me not being able to get my pitch timing down. I was overthrowing a lot of balls once C-Bill got hurt, and I imagine that contributed to tons of hits. I'm going to lower the pitch meter speed down to 70, and see if i do any better.

One good thing about this game was I knocked Haren out of the game after only 72 pitches. He only lasted 4 innings. Although that may seem a bit early, I'm just glad that the fatigue slider might actually be working. If Haren went for a complete game with over 120 pitches like Halladay did last game, I think I would've flipped. I may bring the fatigue slider down to 65 after a couple games to see what happens.
