Played a game against the Giants. Went into extras, they had 14 hits but only scored 3 runs. 13 singles 1 double. I ended up losing 3-2. I'm going to lower CPU contact to 50 and raise power to 75 I think.

          Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

I updated the first post with a couple slider changes I tried out. Think I had an odd game but the low cpu run totals while getting high hit totals bothers me.

          Braves 12/21/0 - 3 Doubles, 1 Triple, 3 Homeruns
          Mets 1/11/0 - 1 triple rest singles

This game was Kawakami vs. Maine. I shelled Maine and then I shelled all of their relievers. I haven't been able to hit like this thus far.

I think one thing to keep in mind with higher cpu hit totals is that we as users typically walk less batters than normal so a higher hit total is necessary. WHIP is what you want to look at (walks plus hits per inning).

With that said, the cpu needs more extra base hits. I'm think that fielder speed is the issue more than the batting settings. The amount of hits is fine, just not enough are hitting the gaps. Next game I play I'm going to drop Fielder speed to 30 and see how it does, but for now I'm going to sleep!

I just finished a few games on 20 and it seems about perfect. Balls drop in that are supposed to and others that should be caught are. I haven't had one instance where I thought a ball should or shouldn't have been caught and the opposite happened.

Good to know. I'll test with fielder speed at 20 when I get home from work tonight. I imagine I'll end up changing it to 20 from the sounds of things.

FWIW, I'm also using 20 for Fielder Speed. In my first game I beat the 'Nats 7-6 with the Marlins in a MLB Today game. I had 13 hits with one double and a triple and 0 HRs. I was just getting way too many at default power so I lowered it to 30. I may have to bump this up to 40. The 'Nats had 14 hits with 2 doubles, 1 triple, and a HR.

The only issue I noticed with the speed this low was the slow ground balls that now make it through the infield for base hits.

Anyway, I'm sure there is a mix that we'll eventually find to make things work.

Hmm. Maybe 30 is a better number to use for fielder speed then? I did see 2 triples in the last game I played @ 40 fielder speed so 30 might do the trick. I guess it would make more sense for me to gradually decrease the speed than to jump straight to 20 so I may try 30 first and if that doesn't work drop down to 20.

                    Re: Blazzen's MLB2K10 Slider Thread

Okay, I just had a very promising game against your Braves, Blazzen.

This was a pitcher's duel up until the 4th inning, which made me a little nervous because offense was non-existent, and I thought it might've been because of the slider changes I made (which I'll post below). I had never faced Tommy Hanson before, but now I know he's a stud. He had a one hit shut-out going into the bottom of the 7th, but that was when I mounted my offense. He was getting tired on the mound after throwing 95 pitches, and I knew I had to take advantage. At this point, it was already 4-0 Braves with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 7th. I had already grounded out with both Ethier and Manny. Matt Kemp comes up and I take a high outside fastball opposite field for a solo shot. 4-1 Braves. Next up is James Loney, but the Braves choose to leave Hanson in. I work the count again, and I end up hitting another solo shot to deep center off a high fastball. 4-2 Braves. Hitting back-to-back HRs is awesome. Next up is Casey Blake. At this point, I'm expecting them to pull Hanson for two reasons: 1. He's given up back-to-back HRs. 2. His pitch count is well over 100. To my surprise, Hanson is still on the mound. Can you guess what's going to happen? I jumped all over a 1-0 high fastball and AGAIN hit a solo shot opposite field. It is now 4-3 Braves after BACK-T0-BACK-TO-BACK homers by Kemp, Loney, and Blake. I'm pretty stoked at this point, but had an underlying fear that sliders might've had something to do with this. Anyway, I'm fully expecting Cox to bring the hook to Hanson, but he STILL leaves him in there!?! Now, I don't know much about the Braves bullpen, but for him to leave Hanson in there after giving up not one, not two, but THREE homers in a row says something. Next up is Belliard, and I proceed to drive a 2-1 fast ball opposite field for a double. Finally, out comes Cox with the hook. They bring in Chavez, and I bring in Reed Johnson to pinch hit with Belliard on 2nd, but I end up grounding out to 2nd. I bring in Troncoso to pitch the top of the 8th, and he retires the side 1-2-3. That brings us to the bottom of the 8th. Chavez retires Furcal and Martin easily, and now there's 2 outs. Next up is Mr. Clutch, Andre Ethier. I end up hitting yet ANOTHER solo shot on a high fastball to tie the game at 4!

We're top 9 now, and Braves are relatively quiet. I bring in Sherril to pitch, and he only gives up a single to Escobar. Bottom 9 now, and Matt Kemp is up to bat. I work the count 3-1, and I'm hoping for another high fastball to walk off, but I work the walk instead. Loney now comes to the plate, and I work the Hit 'N Run count of 2-1. I take a dangerous lead with Kemp, and what happens? I get PICKED OFF! I then end up striking out with Loney, and I grounded out with Blake.

Gentlemen, this game is heading to EXTRAS!

Top 10 now, and I decided to leave Sherill in for a 2nd inning, which in retrospect ended up costing me the game. Sharp single by McClouth, line out by Prado, Chipper singles. Men on first and second, with only one out. BRAVES PULL OFF THE DOUBLE STEAL!!! Now, men on 2nd and 3rd, and I bear down and I get Glaus to strike out. I feel that I reached my breaking point with Sherril, so I decide to bring in the high heat with Kuo (I should've went with Broxton. Another stupid decision. ) Had the count at 1-2, and McCann singles (which should've been scored as a double) opposite field on a high inside fastball, and both men score. I get Escobar to ground out to end the rally. I didn't have any more late inning heroics left in the tank, as Wagner sat me down 1-2-3. That's your ballgame.

                    Final Box Score:

                    ATL: 6 11 0 - 9 Singles, 1 Double, 1 Home Run
                    LAD: 4 8 0 - 1 Single, 1 Double, 4 Home Runs

Let me know what you guys think! I have some more thoughts (hard to believe that, huh?), but I'm going to get my lunch on! More testing to come later.

                        Cheers!
                        WOW, what a game!

                        Couple questions/comments about your sliders:

                        1) With runner speed @ 60 in order to steal bases did you notice a difference in runners beating out infield hits, doubles turning into triples, long singles turning into doubles, etc? I haven't messed with runner speed slider yet so I'm wondering how much of a difference it makes. You also should realize this slider effects both hum and cpu run speed I believe so it will make it easier for the cpu to steal on you.
                        2) How often do you walk with strike zone tendency at 50? I lowered it to 45 to get a few more walks but this particular setting really depends on the user and how patient he is at the plate. Just curious.
                        3) When stealing bases the pitchers delivery speed (how long their wind up move is from the stretch) really effects it a lot. I remember playing the demo I could steal off of Joba all day because he takes forever to get the ball to the plate.
                        4) I'm going to use the 65 pitcher fatigue and 30 fielder speed. These do look like the sweet spots for these settings!

Only an hour to go before work is over, I'll play some when I get home as long as I can dodge my fiance.

                            - At this point, I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. I didn't even get to attempt a steal to see if raising this slider helped, because of my lack of baserunners. Again, I only had one up until the bottom of the 7th. The only questionable play that I saw in reference to baserunning was on a hard double play that Belliard had to range far to his left on. I was able to get the man out at 2nd, but a good slide caused Furcal to jump-throw, and the guy was safe at first. It looked like a really good baseball play to me. Nothing fishy about it. I will make sure to keep an eye on this though in future testing.

                            - I know I drew two walks for sure, and I think I may have gotten three. I'm an extremely patient hitter, so I think that may have something to do with it. One thing that I will say is I think keeping the strike zone tendency at 45 may help with getting pitchers out between the 6th and 7th. I'm going to stick with 50 for the next couple of games, but if I see too many pitchers pithing well into the 7th, I'm going to drop it down to 45.

                            - Point well taken. I really need to work on my base stealing. Again, it's really hard to do so if you don't have baseruners!!!

Good job guys on these sliders.

I was doing some calculations and it seems teams avg. last year were around

                              2 doubles, 1 hr, 7 singles, 3 walks, .2 triples per 9 innings.

so as long as we're semi close to those numbers we're kicking ***! Which it seems we are.
