Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Just played two games against the Pirates with some slightly modified sliders. I've had great games with your sliders MK but the only complaint I have is not enough strikeouts from the cpu or the user. This results in slightly inflated run totals since runners arent being stranded as often as they should.

I'm not at all trying to steal your thunder here, but you mentioned testing with a higher pitch break influence and well, here it is.

Biggest change was pitch break influence at 75. Raising pitch break influence seems to have a similar effect as lowering contact. It makes you swing and miss more and make solid contact less. It doesn't seem to have as DRASTIC an effect though. I saw very varied results in these two games and lots of different hit types. The first game I was hitting mostly soft hits and Jeff Karstens kept me off balance. The second game, however the Pirates starter was (75 OVR, cant remember his name) threw about 55% 4 seam fast balls and I just sat on them and crushed him. I hit a contact swing HR with Jason Heyward (80 power) and a power swing with McCann (88 power). Garrett Jones hit a HR for the Pirates (76 power). The cpu wasn't wild at all with pitch break influence at 75 so no need to raise strike zone tendency from 40 - actually in the second game the pirates pitch was grooving that 4 seamer and I went to town. Another added benefit of pitch break influence was I actually was struck out looking a couple times on some backdoor and front door pitches because they broke back over the plate. I went into much deeper counts against the cpu hitters because they were fouling off more pitches or swinging and missing more. I threw 90 pitches with Tommy Hanson in the first 5 innings of the second higher scoring game. I'm not sure user pitch break influence has a lot of effect on user control, but I play at 25 because there are certain pitches that I just cannot master at 15 or 20 (most notably the sinker - even Tim Hudson's which is rated at 89).

CPU base runner speed at 45 is perfect. 50 and 55 is too fast. Too many triples, too many bunt singles. The key is raising base runner aggression so they will go first to third, score from first on a double, 2nd to home, etc. I may have the slider just slightly too high as I did have two Pirates (McCutchen and Tabata) get thrown out trying to take third instead of staying at second, however both plays were extremely close and required very "green" throws so maybe I just made two good plays.

I like infielder run speed at 10 because too many hard hit ground balls don't make it through the infield at 15 and result in a lot of double plays.

I also like pitch speed at 75. I'm not sure it has any effect on the CPU. I could see it maybe resulting in more hit variety for the user since there's a larger window for the user to swing resulting in more variation in the timing and thus the types of hits. I just find it way too easy at 60 and it also doesn't look realistic.

I'm going to run with these sliders for about 10 games and see how it turns out.

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Just played a game as the Pirates vs the Dodgers. I was pitching and someone from the Dodgers( I forget the name). Hit a deep fly ball to LF(who is played by Alex Presley(83 speed)) and the ball fell over his head at the warning track.

Presley was chasing the ball. I thought he'd get it but it fell about 3 feet in front of him.
Probably the best thing that has happened to me so far in 2k12. I was using the outfielder speed at 10

Okay...I know I said I wouldn't do this, but based upon Blazzen's post a few above (whose slider ideas I highly respect) I kinda went back to my earlier thinking on this game. I've changed a number of things so you will need to REVIEW ALL THE SLIDER #'s to be sure you have them all correct. Most notably I went back to the earlier thinking on pitch speed for both cpu and user. The set below is also posted on page 1 - post 1. Sorry if this upsets any of you, and if you're happy just ignore this. But with all the latest tweaks there was just something not quite right about the way it played for me. After 3 test games, these sliders have really put the game back to where I wanted it when I set out developing them this year...

Played the first two games of my season with these new sliders. Lost 10-4 my first game, Romero got beat up. Won my second game 8-7. Seems to be real high scoring but it's a poor sample size. Maybe I just suck at pitching whic is a possibility. Both games were Blue Jays (me) vs. Indians (CPU)

I have to admit i didnt feel great when i read all new changes, hehe

But i just finished a really really great game.

                Playing braves (me) vs detroit

                won 6-5, hits 10-7, e 0-0

Made solid contact as i hit 3HRs, (Hinske, McCann, Heyward)
Tigers went out 2 times (Cabrera, Boesch)

                Looks really solid,

Great work AS ALWAYS Mr MKH33!

Thanks a lot (and i mean it!)

personally I hate sliders that just boost up the CPU in everything and make the User awful in everything so I'ma have to pass on these.

thanks for letting us know that..

you have to give the cpu an edge in games like this with sliders, if not, they do nothing. no hits, hr's, etc.

I had originally upped pitch speed to 80 to try and get more user strikeouts. It worked out well for awhile but I ended up going back down to 75 like you have now. I think it's perfect there.

Interesting about baserunner speed. I've had it at 55 for awhile but I might drop it down to 45 like you have now and see how it looks. The problems with bunt singles and triples like blazzen said aren't really a slider issue. It's like what we dealt with last year MK with bad animations just not triggering fast enough. So the slider changes should help compensate.

Hey MK, I'm really sorry to bother you but I'd love some guidance here if you're willing to give it. I am completely on the ball when it comes to hitting, I've got a dangerous offense, but for the life of me it seems like I can't pitch. I get knocked around the park all the time no matter what adjustments I try to make. Is there any way you could give me some tips on his to become a better pitcher? I want to love these sliders because they're amazing on all other aspects for me. Please and thank you man.

Here's another one. Mets (me) vs Braves (CPU). Not sure what the deal is with these past two games but I just cannot hit or score much. The tiger game above I actually only had 4 hits going into the 9th inning. The mets game, well, you can see I couldn't get anything together. Both games I was hitting against lesser (70 overall) pitchers, while I was pitching with Verlander and Santana.

It's weird, since I haven't even touched power or contact. It just seems so many balls in play are just weak dribblers. It's almost like I'm batting with a wet noodle lol. Let me know if you're seeing the same.
