mkharsh, how does the AI pitch break at 100 influence hitting? Do you see different kinds of hits? I've tried them... its a bit different but I can't quite put my finger on it...

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
I've got a few more edits to this slider set that I'll post later. REALLY made this game come to life for me. I was fearful of doing some of the things I've experimented with, but now find the realism really showing up. You may not like them once you see them, but I've had a really fun time with them.. Will post later...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Page 1 - Post 1 now updated with the latest sliders!!
Everything below in RED is updated - but be sure to double check your sliders just to be sure.
Notes:
- Active Bullpen, though I don't want to do this, is now turned back ON. With it off, I had a glitch where it said my starting pitcher was warming up in the bullpen, even though he was in the game. The strange thing is the catcher would be in the crouch in the bullpen, but no pitcher present. But messages would pop up during the game that he was tiring...and then potentially could be injured. Weird. I like the way the cpu manages with it off, but it's a risk not worth taking - might affect things in an Association/Dynasty mode.
- Significant changes to the cpu pitching. You might be scared of these, BUT - the bat-on-ball physics is now AMAZINGLY GOOD with these changes! The ball actually comes off the bat in a more appropriate manner - I think this is the way the game was actually meant to be played. You'll need a quicker reaction time, and a keener eye for the strike zone, but once you get some practice games in with this set - trust me, it really makes the game come to life.
- User and CPU batting contact and power have been updated. Maybe it's my latest roster update (360) but things really changed with regard to hitting and pitching. If you don't like these new updates, just stay put. But, if you're using my August 15th roster file, you'll probably need to go this route. Don't let the human 25 contact scare you off - I've had some outstanding at-bats with this change - remember, the new cpu pitch speed (100) and pitch break influence (100) allows you to make more credible contact with regard to foul balls. It seems strange, but it works.
- With the new pitching sliders (human) you're gonna need to pitch MUCH smarter!! Don't be afraid to throw outside the zone. Also, know what each pitch type will do - placement of cursor pre-pitch - movement of pitch - and what happens when the circles are not at full capacity (slower/weak pitch) and outside the circles. Movement understanding is now critical.
I'm putting a LOT of time into this because I sense MLB 2K12 will be a "keeper" game for me. Honestly, with these new updates I LOVE this game!!! Not perfect, but very fun...and I've worked to get the simulation factor as good as possible. I'm not sure about the future of 2K baseball (to be candid, I don't even read those threads) but I'm aware it might be the end of the road. This game will be a mainstay in my library... So I hope this helps you guys enjoy this game. We don't have quite the traffic here like The Show does, and I wish we had more complete retro rosters (I'm an Indians fan of the mid-90's), but I like the group that posts here and really appreciate you guys!!

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
mkharsh... i was wondering, what do you recommend doing with the catcher suggestions when you are pitching? i see that you have it on, but should i always just follow whatever the catcher calls? or should i pitch on my own? what do you do?Last edited by SportsGamingBlake; 08-19-2012, 01:09 AM.Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
I've gotten shelled for 14 hits... And the other night I threw a 2-hitter, with my SP going 8 1/3 before giving up 2 walks (and tiring out at 102 pitches). Think like a manager and the fun factor comes out!STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
This question was addressed right above but I wanted to elaborate on it and it is the catcher suggestion. I have not used it once and have called every single pitch I have thrown in the game myself( I tried the catcher suggestion for 2 games in the demo and was annoyed with how many pitches over the heart of the plate the catcher called for, and that was with Molina) and was wondering if it was easier or harder this way, if you haven't tried both and aren't sure don't waste your time trying it I was just wondering if you knew off the top of your head. Also if you do use the catcher suggestion does having a better game caller make a big difference, for example I have McCann and Molina(franchise fantasy draft) so would it actually be easier to pitch with Molina or not make a difference?Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Not sure... I use the pitch suggested, but not always the location. The colors of pitch type are also very crucial (dark red pitches are not wise to throw).
Played a game tonight - lost 4-1. Was tied up 1-1, and then I pulled my pitcher for a pinch-hitter. dumb move. Gave up 3 runs in the 8th. Had runners on 2nd and 3rd, but hit a grounder to end the game. I had 8 hits, cpu had 10. 2 doubles for me, and 1 hr for the cpu. LOVE this new set!STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Played an insanely fun 16 inning marathon last night. Won 3-1. Had to pitch out of a bases load / 1 out jam, and then a runner at 3rd and one out situation. I had the bases loaded twice, but failed to score. Finally took it to their lousy relief pitcher in the 16th. Wise use of my bullpen saved me. Fun stuff!!STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
I made an update to page 1 -
- gonna go with cpu batting power AND batting contact BOTH at 80.
With contact at 75, I can strike out 10+ in 6 innings or less. Just not realistic. BUT, when I jack up contact to 80 (with cpu power left at 85) I get mauled. So I think the balance is 80 / 80.
Played a 10 inning game today in which I won 7-6 on a walk-off solo HR by Edwin Encarnacion. Trailed 1-0, then tied it at 1. Scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and knocked the cpu starting pitcher out. got shutout and then saw my closer crap the lead away, and I trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th. Hit a solo HR to tie it, got out of 2 men in scoring position with 2 outs to come up with the win. Also unlocked me an achievement!STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Hey I was wondering what is "Pitch speed" under user settings. Basically what I don't understand about that slider is does moving it up make your pitches seem faster to the CPU therefore making them harder to hit, or does moving it down have this effect? Or am I way off and it does something else. Also for pitcher fatigue does moving it up make pitchers get tired faster or slower? Thanks for the help.Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
pitch speed is the quickness of the ball to the plate from the pitcher's hand. Will also have a hand in the power of the ball off the bat, I've noticed. But more than this, it gives GREAT bat-on-ball physics - much more realistic. That's why some other things needed tweaked - but I want this game to resemble more of what I see on TV, and these latest changes do that. I don't think it affects the cpu batters as much as it will you, the user. You'll need quicker reaction times, BUT the foul balls look more realistic. For example, with the 80 pitch speed and 50 pitch movement, I'd see pitches NOT looking realistic when they came off the bat, specifically the direction they were hit. That's now remedied.
Regarding getting pitchers to tire faster: move the pitch fatigue higher. Right now I'm at 55 - but if you want them to tire faster, go up to 60 or higher. BUT, be warned: the cpu does a TERRIBLE job of AI management. They'll let a guy die on the mound before removing him. They wait too long to warm guys up in the pen, and this affects the game in a negative way.
Regarding turning active bullpen off (which is a question you might ask next) - see my comments on the prior page (I believe) as to why we can't go that route (glitch).
Hope this helps...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS
