Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K12 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

    - I recall reading on a number of forums when this game was released that HR power was more difficult for the cpu than in prior 2K releases. So don't fear that 95 number - it's a necessity to get the cpu to launch balls harder and farther. I haven't given up many, and those I have were meatballs that deserved crushed.

    - I was hitting too many HR's with user power too high, so I lowered that for my preference (and I'll need to see if I need to go lower once I dig into this game more). I'm still doing NBA 2K11 roster files for the guys there and I promised them I'd finish out the season, so I'm still keeping a close eye on NBA stuff.

    - with run speed at 20 (which I believe is perfect) you need to adjust the catcher throwing power to accomodate. with it set at 50 (with shogun's base set) I was throwing out base-stealers by a good 5-8 feet (not even close). So this was a necessary adjustment, and it also gives the "challenge" to it. I want good base-stealers to get their bases against me in a fair way, but when I'm throwing out Billy Hamilton by a mile, I know something is wrong. 25 seems to be a delicate balance.

    - I'm a VERY patient hitter. 98% of time I always take first strikes. I've noticed that this game has a good variety. I've been down 0-2 in some at-bats. I've had great plate battles (had an 11-pitch at-bat the other day). I've drawn a good number of walks. I want the pitchers to throw a LOT of pitches to me, and the %'s vary against me, but they seem fine. Again, I don't want to play a REAL baseball game where there's 160 pitches thrown. But in my last game I counted and the cpu threw 138 pitches altogether - I can't recall the strike % but I drew 5 walks.

These are still possibly a work-in-progress, but I took shogun's base set, and then I looked at all the other 2K13 slider sets here as well and jotted down some things I was seeing. But guys are all over the map, and the biggest thing that sets all the slider sets apart is BASE RUNNING SPEED. I like it lower - but a number of guys here have it jacked up, and I think that makes the game too "arcadish" for my tastes. Hope this makes sense....

mkharsh. About the BR Speed I found that with at 30 with catcher strength and accuracy at 40. I found that with it at at 20 or 25, players with speed above 75 weren't getting doubles in the gap when they should have been.

        Thaks for the feedback...

Note also that OTHER sliders would then be impacted by your suggestion.

        - infield throw strength would then have to be adjusted for infield hits.
        - outfield run speed would also be impacted (regarding doubles in the gap).

So it's not as simple as just changing a couple things. I used shogun's slider set as my base, and we've done a LOT of testing with sliders here over the last 3 years or so. So I'm gonna stick with what we did on that because I'm seeing plenty of doubles in the gap (which is why I raised cpu hit power).

Doing sliders is like plugging holes in a bucket... You might plug one, but then you find that 3 others need plugged. So I offer these as a base set - do with them as each finds their sweet spot with this game.

My goal is simulation...challenge...variety...fun. And that's how I've developed every set I've created here. And it might be a bit different for each person, so all I'm hoping to do here is take away some of the "start from scratch" homework that can be painfully difficult when trying to get that "perfect" (LOL!!) slider set...

I am seeing doubles in the gap and extra bases taken 1st to 3rd on singles and 2nd to home on singles with BR Speed set at 25 and OF Throw at 60. You gotta check CPU BR Aggression to make sure it isn't too low.

None of these game's will even be spot on when it comes to doubles and triples. Even the so called "king" of baseball games has serious issues with this problem. More often than not hits down the line in that game end up being singles when they should be easy doubles. They've been trying to fix it for years w/o much success.

I do not see that problem with 2k. Sony yeah all the time.

For anyone using these - I made 2 updates to the MLB 2K13 set (top set):

                  - lowered user pitch control down from 20 to 10
                  - raised cpu steal aggression from 45 to 50 (and might go higher).

                  page 1 / post 1 is updated.

I'm having a ton of fun with this slider set for 2K13. Getting good variety of games - from hitting to pitching and seeing the ball being sprayed all over the field.

mk..do you recall the settings for team management in a franchise for all 30 teams, including the team you are playing?

2k13. I am having the occasional problem with getting my runner to slide into second running from first base on double plays. Any fix for this? Runner just gives up and makes no attempt to take out the SS or second baseman.

If you quickly choose the baserunner on the basepaths that you want (here - the guy on first who is running to 2nd) - pick him, and then I (THINK) you hit the "x" button to get him to slide.

Sorry, most of this I do by instinct, so I don't really know how to explain it well. But I THINK that's how I typically do that. I was playing a game last night and I got the runner to slide into the relay throw 2B to 1B and it caused the 1Baseman to drop the ball because of a bad throw.

Also, I made some adjustments to my 2K13 sliders last night... page 1 / post 1 has all the details on them.

I think I'm about done with things - the only thing I can't seem to get right for my taste is USER HITTING CONTACT and POWER.

It will either be this combination:

                        contact 45 & power 65

                        OR

                        contact 40 & power 70

(EDIT: I'm currently using the 40/65 combination). But you guys who are using this set can give them a shot and see what fits you best. Thanks!)

I'll try to select the runner going from first to see if that does it. sometimes I just use the slide button and it works automatically. Can't get the hang of total control hitting so I am going with 40/60 User hitting with the button alone. Plays great for me.

Total Control Pitching with user Control down low is great. If 2k is not going to ever make this game again someone needs to lift this method of pitching and incorporate it into their game. Sony or somebody needs to use this pitching system.

What do you have player fatigue set at for Franchise Mode? I'm not seeing enough players getting 500 PAs. I'm seeing way too many in the 300s.

Ignore this post, I misread Pitcher Fatigue for Player Fatigue.

I made some updates for 2K13 - double-check your numbers (page 1 / post 1 - first set at the top of the post). Most notable is adjustments to user hitting power and cpu pitch success (though a few others have been updated as well). The more I play this game, the better I get - thus the adjustment to hitting power. (I remember from 2K12 the logic behind the different game levels - and I'm now seeing that play out in 2K13 as well). I use jmc's rosters with these sliders - gameplay is a thing of beauty.

I had the bases loaded and saw something new: I hit a broken-bat blooper JUST OVER the hand of the first baseman. The 1B jumped to try and get the ball, but it was just over his finger tips. Hadn't seen that before.
