Hopefully the Mets collaspe like they do in real life...lol...And yes, Dunn eats up about 22% of my payroll so If I can't turn it around, I will trade him since he is only on 2 year contract. Just ridding him alone will slash my payroll to about $42 million.
Playing this mode really makes you think about everything differently. In real life we, as fans, may complain about our team trading a big time player, or signing someone a little worse because he costs less. Now, we know how hard it is to manage that kind of stuff. That's what I love about this mode.

What I really like about this game is that managers do play a roll in regards to performance. Acta has high baserunning (have stolen 10-13 as a team) and low fielding (lead league in errors with 30). I don't want to fire him, but doing so may help the team out. My hitting coach as low contact (.233 team average with 247 K's) but high power rating (22 bombs ranks 3 in NL). My philosophy is plate discipline and it shows as I lead the league in walks with 150 and I have the right hitting coach for that as his rating is an 88.
Yeah, I like how that plays a role into the game also. Off the top of my head I know my hitting coach has a really high contact rating and my team has above a .300 average right now(although I expect that to go down since I got off to a hot start).

Anywho, if I can get within 5 games within the end of May, I may take the biggest gamble and sign Sheets. I tried to negotiate with him, but he wouldn't budge. He is asking for $11 million per year over 3 years and I offered $8 million over 4 years. In order to create flexiblity, either Nick Johnson (who is making a tad over $5 million) or Adam Dunn must go. I have to remember that the CPU does sign FA's during the season (something the show and 2k series lack) so I have to act fast. Pedro signed with the Dodgers for 2 years at $7.2 million per.
Dang, that's a big decision you have to make. Sheets would be a huge improvement for you. Hopefully you can get him to accept a little less than what he's asking. Although trading Dunn would be just a $1 million difference, but I'm not sure who is better for you, Dunn or Johnson. I do love the fact that teams sign free agents during the season in this game, it adds another challenging(and realistic) part to the game.

I have a question. I am running my seasons in Dynasty modes because I wanted to use the original stadium, but I noticed you said that you still use RFK... Do you still get the funds using that stadium over the created one you have to have? If that's the case then I would go Owner Mode all the way over the Dynasty Mode. I'm just not a fan at all of the created stadiums and how they look which is enough to drive me out unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it gives you funds based on your created stadium. So even if I have a sellout at RFK, it will show 20,000 fans in attendance. I always hated this about owner mode, but despite this, is still the funnest mode of all sport games.

That's more than enough for me... I just don't want it to act like a road game and get no funds using Miller Park for the Brewers instead of using the created one.

I used to play MVP up until The Show 08, but 09's Show is not as fun for me so I reverted back and forgot a bunch of the little things...

          Thank you!!!

No problem man. I also have the show for ps3, but this game just seems to be superior imo. Not bashing the show because it is one hell of a game, but like they always say: to each his own.

Ahh!! played a game today, lost, and lost Adam Dunn to injury and will be out for 107 days. Gosh darn it. Not only can't he be traded, but he won't be healthy until after the trading deadline. Not only does that put me in a bind, I will no longer be able to negotiate with Ben Sheets. I am 10-20 as of now and am 9 GB from the Mets. This is going to ruin me this year.

I finally had a quality start from Daniel Carbrera. He went the distance (my first CG as a team) going: 8 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K's. I was playing at SD and lost 2-1. I really needed him to go the distance as my bullpen has been taxed beyond belief. I already have 2 guys who have appeared in 18 games and 2 more in 15. Its not that I am mismanaging them, but they always knock out my starter before the 6th. I have brought up some fresh arms to alleviate the probably of injury occuring to my guys.

Starters for next game: Scott Olsen for me vs. Shawn Hill who is 1-2 with a solid 3.63 ERA.

Ouch, that really sucks dude. Your dreams were dashed pretty fast. Are you going to have to trade away some of your other high paid players, or are you just going to leave the payroll the same?

Nice to see you get a good and long outing from Cabrera. Too bad the nationals released Shawn Hill, or maybe you would've had a(or another) solid started.

I don't have much notable about what's happening in my owner mode, except that I was just swept by the cubs in a 3 game series. Their rotation is definiely solid from 1-5. Zambarano, Lilly, Marquis, forget who's #4, Prior. I don't think I have a legitamite shot at winning the division, unless the computer beats up on the cubs. I don't think I will win a series unless I face Marquis and their #4 starter in a series, because that's the only part they're vulnerable, and I've had troubles with Marquis already.

                  Re: Owner Mode

Been really busy the last 5 days or so and only got in about 3 games this week. I did take 2 of 3 from the Reds and am now 8 GB from the Mets. Nick Johnson stepped it up going 3-8 including: 4 walks, HR, 4 RBI, a Sac Fly, and 2 doubles. Edinson Volquez dominated me in the second game going 6 innings, allowing just 3 hits, walking 3, and striking out 10 of my guys. I lost that game 4-1. I still haven't found my closer yet and it doesn't seem like the solution lies within my organization. Hanrahan is a mere 5 of 9 while the rest of my pen has converted just 1 of 4. However, Hanrahan is mowing down guys, striking out 9.6 per 9 innings which is a pretty healthy statistic for a closer. The only downside to him is him allowing the HR (4 in 15 IP).

So, at 12-21 I am feeling alot more confident going into interleague play. I play the Angels in about 2 weeks or so (game time) and they are littered with injuries (like real life). They will not have Vladdy, Abreu, and Figgins during the series so hopefully I can take 2 out of 3 from them. As far as financials go, I am starting to make up some ground. I am still about $2 million in the red, but am increasing my fan happiness. My philosophy is discipline and it is working as I lead the MLB with 162 walks. Christian Guzman is starting to heat up as he has hit in 12 straight and has his average at .343 which leads my team by far (second is Milledge with a .281 Avg).

Here are some of my team leaders:

                  Christian Guzman: .343 avg., HR, 9 RBI, 8 2B, 3B, 3 of 5 SB
                  Ryan Zimmerman: .255 avg., 6 HR, 18 RBI, 5 2B, 29 walks
                  Lastings Milledge: .281 avg., 2 HR, 12 RBI, 2 3B, 5 of 7 SB

                  Joel Hanrahan: W: 0 L: 1 3.39 ERA, 5 saves, 16 K's, 5 BB
                  Daniel Cabrera: W: 0 L: 5 6.55 ERA, 41 K's, 17 BB, CG

                  Top Minor Leaguer:

Iam Desmond SS: .363 Avg. 8 HR, 22 RBI, 10 2B in 29 games (and has a .989 Fielding %). He is still in A ball, but am thinking he is ready for AA.

Been really busy too, I haven't played since the last time I updated(thankfully I got a bunch of games done during spring break). Nice to see Nick Johnson doing good for you, at least he's earning that contract. I know how it feels to not have someone who can for sure be your closer, I had that happen to me with one of my previous Reds franchises. Hopefully Hanrahan steps up though, because it sounds like he has some nasty stuff(based on his K #'s).

Interleague is always tough, although you are getting lucky facing the Angels when they are down some key players. I was right around -$100K the last time I played, but I was projected to lose $5MM . My fan happiness is about 3/5 though, and I think most of the reason I'm expected to lose that much is because of what I purchased(concessions, stores, promos etc...). I think with the fan happiness where it is, my attendance should at least stay the same if not rise.

Here are some of my team leaders:

                    Christian Guzman: .343 avg., HR, 9 RBI, 8 2B, 3B, 3 of 5 SB

                    Daniel Cabrera: W: 0 L: 5 6.55 ERA, 41 K's, 17 BB, CG
Christian Guzman is doing amazing! Hopefully he can keep that up all year, that would be key for you. Zimmerman looks like he will samsh a pretty good amount of HR's this year, and Milledge is doing pretty good too.

Daniel Cabrera seems to be pitching just like he does in real life, mows down a lot of batters, but just can't seem to get it done out there.

Nice to see Desmond still tearing it up in A ball, are you planning on promoting him to AA sometime this year?

                        Re: Owner Mode

Thanks Madden. No matter how much I try, I can't play the show 09 (especially with bad bugs).

Anyways, just played another game and lost (12-22 record). I had Scott Olsen on the hill for me and he had a serviceable start going 5 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, and 3 K's. I just lost Kip Wells for 6 days because I hit someone intentially. I was playing the Cubbies and Dempster threw at Zimmermans head so I retaliated and clocked one of their best player in Derek Lee. It was funny because Ryan Theroit suffered a broken jaw during the brawl and is out for about a month.

Still 8 GB from the Mets. I actually pulled the trigger and called up Ian Desmond to AA (thanks to you Duke). I made my decision after I skipped their game and went 4-5 with 2 HR and 6 RBI's giving him a .400 Avg. 10 HR, and 28 RBI through 30 freakn games. He is just eating minor league pitchers for breakfast right now. Since I had a night game, I skipped his first game in AA and had seen that he went 0-4 with 3 K's. I know first hand that there is no way he will repeat that against tougher competition.

I tried to make a trade (Nick Johnson and OF Justin Maxwell for Tony Armas Jr.) and was rejected. I think Armas would have been an upgrade over Jason Bergmann and John Lannan. I understand it may not be a significant one, but I believe Armas can give me better outings than Bergmann and Lannon and at very low costs. He is no Ben Sheets of course, but I viewed this as an opportunity to obtain a middle of the rotation starter (when healthy), get rid of Johnsons contract (valued at $5.1 million) and would allow me the flexibility of putting Colin Balester back in AAA ball where he can get his game back on track. He has been struggling mightely with me this season (Has an ERA of 9.66) but I have no other options. I gave Kip Wells 2 spot starts and he gave me some respectable results going 11 1/3 innings, allowing 12 hits, 6 ER, 4 BB, and striking out 7. Not great, but a good lift. Well, I will be putting Johnson on the block. He just went from a sad face to an angry one...lol

So, how are you doing in your owner mode Duke and Madden?

                          Re: Owner Mode

Well I'll throw up what I got going on. I have been playing The Show a lot because I like a lot of the GM stuff, but I think I am gonna play me up some owner mode with the Brewers 09 Rosters, but rolling in the 08 season since the career stats end after the 07 season. 09 I just get too frustrated. I also have a 94 season going in my sig for MVP 05, but that's dynasty mode.

I set this owner mode up and even made the uni's and put all the logos and name changes to have the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers as my Single A team. The Manatees are the Brewers advanced single A and the Rattlers are the semi A league team for the Brewers. I live close to them and about an hour away from Milwaukee so I would have more fun having them in the game.

So... I have yet to play a game and I signed Ben Sheets to replace Braden Looper. My player salary is just over 96 million. Prince Fielder & Mike Cameron are over 9 mil and all, but 2 minor league guys are over 100k. Cameron will probably go so Tony Gwynn Jr. can play I am thinking. Other than that I think my roster pay is not too bad I don't think. I spent my 5 mil I got to start on just venders and a couple promotions in the first month and am now broke. Hopefully I don't stay in the red too long so I can atleast have a few more promotions through out the year. It's been so long I am not sure how it's all gonna work out especially since I will be using the stock Miller Park instead of my Created Stadium for my home games. I just like Miller Park too much

I am gonna play all my Milwaukee games and a Single A game here and there so I can reflect in my days worth of work to get them into the game until it becomes just like every other minor league team.

I use All-Star setting with some sliders I found on MVPmods site. Not sure who's they were.

I guess thats all for now... I will post some stuff tonight when I get done throwing the little white ball around the diamond!!!

Edit: I think I am going to try and load the County Stadium from the 94 mod or something in as one of the Historical Stadiums at some point. That would be sweet to run in as a change of pace... lol I am a History buff and that huge beer stein in center field looks awesome!!!

Hey man, welcome aboard. So did you play 09 the show on the ps3? Hell, even with the graphics, new features, etc. I still can't get to into it. I guess I'm trying to find ways to convince myself that I love that game. I do enjoy it, but I keep coming back to MVP for some reason. If only EA decided to go for the MLBPA instead of their crappy madden series, I'm sure we would have been alot happier.

Anyways, back on topic. I think having a Brewers chise going is a change of pace. I have a Nationals going (13-22 now) and Duke has a Reds one, so it should be interesting as to how far we will go. Do you have a list of your top prospects? I am curious as to how you are planning to bring them up. It is a tricky process. Some guys, like myself, prefer the patient approach. I will let guys develop 3-4 years before giving them a shot. Others like to throw them into the fire and hope they perform.

I almost NEVER use my minor league system as trade bait. The Yankees always did this in order to obtain proven talent, but I like the moneyball approach. Build from within is my motto because it is cheaper and a much safer approach. The only bad thing about this is that if you have crappy drafts year after year, your franshice will suffer. I'm not too keen on Free Agent signings. I like to go after guys who can do a little bit of everything (has 10-15 HR pop, can swipe 12-15 bags, and play a few positions) because those guys command $1-$3 million per year. Since I am strictly sticking to a $50 million payroll, I need to be smart with my drafts, trades, and the FA market. I am still trying to get Tony Armas Jr. but the Mets won't budge. I am not going to offer any 4 or 5 star prospects. Nick Johnson is a lock along with his $5 million contract. I may need to add a solid prospect to get them to give up Armas.

If there was a way to get updated rosters on my xbox for MVP 05, I would join in, but I don't have an action replay or anything of the sort, so i'll just have to live through you guys lol.

Ahh that sucks. Are you having the same problem with the show? I see you had it for the ps3 as well. I just can't get into it. Although they have new franchise features, they have too many bugs. The DL glitch killed it for me. To answer your question, go to mvpmods.com or eamods.com and I'm sure you'll find your answer there.

Now on to owner mode. I played a few games and am now 13-25 which now puts me 10.5 GB from the Mets. Based on my calcualations, it may take me 130 games to climb back into the race based on my division, team makeup, and other variables (I wrote an essay about this and got an A in advanced statistical analysis ). Therefore, I gave myself until mid June to be at least 6 GB from first place. If I am not, I will then refocus my efforts and chase down the Wild card in which I am 6.5 GB. I may give up trying to obtain Tony Armas as the Mets are asking too much out of me. I will shop Mr. Johnson around and see if I have any takers. The only thing I am not interested in at this time is recieving prospects. I am giving myself and my fan base a chance to enter the post season. Plust, I am $2.2 million in the hole which is really killing me. Adding Ben Sheets is no longer an optiion since I lost Dunn, and Pedro Martinez signed with the Dodgers for a bargain price of $5 million per over 2 years.

Owner mode is by far supeior than anything the show offers IMO. The show is a solid game, but just can't get into it. Like they always say, "to each his own."
