I think the hitting might very well be the least of the A's problems.. that franchise is in trouble and they came along at the right time for the Yankees. I just can't be impressed with the Yankees win streak.

They had lost 4 in a row, 3 to Tampa, once to the A's. Since then they have won 8 in a row. The team is playing much better, the and the quality of opponents hasn't gotten any worse in that stretch.
I don't think getting back to .500 is a reason to celebrate, but anyone who thinks the team is going to back to last place, or even close to it has to be on something.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

I'm not even close to being sold on the Yankees. I don't think Tino can keep it up and I certainly have no faith in Giambi, and Posada still isn't looking too good. You can't count them out because of their resources and the fact that they're the Yankees, but I wouldn't punch their ticket for October just yet.Comment

The AL East is a very hard division.. I'd think the D-Rays might be competitive in another division. Not a .500 team, mind you, but I think they're good enough for 75-78 wins. They do have good young talent. It's just a matter of using resources to compete in that division.Comment

Last year, they got no production from first base until Olerud came, and he didn't tear the cover off the ball either. Posada's numbers are down, but even if he doesn't pick it up too much, Jeter, Arod, Sheffield, and Matsui are plenty of offense. They can afford to not get much out of a couple of positions.
The offense doesn't worry me at all. My #1 concern is easily the bullpen, and there are still some questions in the rotation. IMO, if the Yankees don't win this year, those will be the reason why.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Originally posted by ArmitageThe A's don't even have good pitching either. Man.. that team's going to go neck and neck with the Royals for the worst team in baseball. Are the A's REALLY that hard up for money? It's odd they don't have any after the playoff seasons in the late 80s and in recent years..

Originally posted by BigTimShut up bandwagon man. You are honestly starting to make me sick reading all your favorite teams. Just knock it off......should have stayed gone anyways.
Anyways, I digress....The Yankees are on a hot streak against the 2 bottom feeders of the West(a bad division anyways). The A's have NO hitting, and the Mariners havent had good pitching. Let them get back to a team with a more well rounded style and the regular bad Yanks are going to show back up.
Guys, this Yankee team is too talented to keep playing as bad as they were. A streak like this was inevitable, and it's funny how all you hear now is 'Well, it's only the A's and Mariners' when they just lost 3 of 4 to Tampa. The O's are going to come back to earth soon, once guys like Bruce Chen and Erik Bedard wake up and realize that they are actually Bruce Chen and Erik Bedard. In the end, the Yanks will battle the Sox for the division. The Yanks definitely have some issues, but even with those issues, they are still the most talented team in the AL. Lucky for them, there are no powerhouses in the AL this year....Comment

Way to early for this type of post asianflow. I was wondering who the first person would be to post a "Yankees are the greatest team in the history of baseball" type-thread once they got back to .500.
This latest winning streak still doesn't take away from the fact that they are an old team. Old in the OF, old at 1B, and definitely old at pitching.Comment

Re: Where are all the Yankee haters?
Yanks still have a long way to go. One thing about this streak is that it's mainly due to Tino hitting like he's 25 again and while the offense has been very good it might not be good enough to prop up the pitching. I watched most of the Yanks game yesterday and Randy Johnson didn't look comfortable at all. I say give the Yanks another 2 weeks to see how things will shape up.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Where are all the Yankee haters?
Way too early to start celebrating...hell, still in FOURTH place in the AL East.
Atleast the teams confidence should be up and the upcoming schedule is fairly easy.

Re: Where are all the Yankee haters?
The Yankees still have to play over .600 ball the rest of the way to make it to 95 wins. Not impossible, but very difficult to sustain that over the course of 130 games.Comment
