I agree. I'm really getting sick of Beckett getting injured every season. It'd be smart to keep a top of the rotation guy like AJ, in-case of an emergincy.

When put like that, you have an excellent point. I probably wouldn't do that trade either. Arroyo has surprised me from what he once was. Probably just a case of a player maturing. I'm sure Boston looked at Burnett in the offseason, but once Clement was signed (and now pitching very well) the idea of getting him cooled off. My guess is that Boston isn't even that interested in him right now.

The O's on the other hand could really use a starting pitcher if they want to compete this year. However, I'm not sure giving up Cabrera or Penn in any deal is really worth it.

Agree. I think the only interest Boston would have in him is as a FA in the offseason and probably not even then since they already have a lot of $ locked up in starters.

I think it would be a mistake for the O's to trade for a half year of Burnett. Even with Burnett, I don't think this team is ready to make a post-season run. They would be better off waiting until the off-season and getting him as a FA. With the money the Red Sox and Yankees have committed to their pitching staffs, Baltimore should have a very good shot of signing him. With their young pitchers having another year of experienceand a legit #1 starter, Baltimore could have a very good shot at the AL East, especially with Boston and the Yankees having offseasons where there could be a lot of roster turnover.

          Doesn't that happen every offseason?

Yes, but both teams have a ton of money already committed. The Yankees could continue to spend, but the Red Sox won't increase their payroll any.

You really think Beattie & Flanagan will do anything other than lowball people next offseason?

We won't get Burnett, we won't get Schmidt. Not Zito or Oswalt either. Our front office sucks, our owner sucks, and we won't do a thing to get better and will continue to slip until healthy. Trust me.

Not a bad trade, I wouldn't mind that at all.

Bush and Lilly have really been inconsistent, especially Lilly. He pitched a 10 K outing, then the next one is only 4 innings long.

Schoenweis, I don't know why the Jays paid so much for him. Overrated.

Cattalanato... he's just not getting it done. Let Reed Johnson play regular in Left Field and we can see some results.

AJ Burnett would complement Doc and take the pressure off him as the only ace in the Jays pitching staff.

As much as this trade sounds nice, I doubt it would happen. Florida is just not gonna pick these guys up.
