    Re: Best/Worst Broadcasters

Why does everyone hate Ken Harrelson and Darrin Jackson so much? I've always liked them.

Best (that I listen to on radio/tv): Marty Brenneman, Jon Miller, Joe Morgan, Steve Stone, Hawk & DJ, Skip & Chip Carey, Jeff Brantley

    Worst: Tim McCarver

Folks, we have a winner here.

Giants announcers Kruk and Kuip are the best in the business. They are very professional and entertaining at the same time, and Kuiper has a GREAT home run call. Too bad I don't get to hear it that much without Bonds in the lineup... it's terrific, though. Gives you "goosebumpers".

LOL!!! You read my mind. That guy is THE worst radio broadcaster. I remember when he called a homerun by Cano to left field when it was clearly a right field. And his GIAMBINO call is just downright laughable.

              Worst:

The Cardinals announcers: these guys are some of the biggest homers I've ever heard. Yes, the team is good and all, and we KNOW Albert Pujols is a great player, but these guys ride his jock every chance they get. In just about any discussion about any great former player, they always have to mention his name as "another guy who falls into that category"

The Braves announcers on TBS: "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"

Michael Kay: Typical Yankees fan. Acts like they shouldn't even bother playing the season and just give the Yanks the trophy. Someone needs to remind this arrogant jerk that the Yanks haven't won since 2000. An example of this guy's arrogance: during Matsui's first season, the Yankees played a series in Toronto. The Toronto newspaper printed an ad in Japanese that for fans to take to the game that basically told him to go home (a little rude, but whatever). Kay sees this, and says (paraphrasing) "When your team has won 26 World Championships, then you can do something like that." Whatever, a**hole.

Tim McCarver: Nothing left to be said.

John Wehner: Words do not describe how awful this guy is. Anyone who has watched a Pirates game with him on will understand. For the rest, let's just say he makes Tim McCarver sound like Mike Krukow (sorry Kruk)

              Best:

Lanny Frattare: Sorry, but this is the guy I grew up listening to. He's not flashy, doesn't ramble about pointless factoids, he just calls a good game, and only offers up his opinion in the rare instances it's called for.

Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow: great duo, and a good listen even for the visiting team (which is the best quality of an announcing team, IMO)

Jon Miller: again, I'm seconding everything that has already been said about him

                Re: Best/Worst Broadcasters

For Color Commentators, I like Joe Morgan, but he really doesn't have good chemistry with any of his partners. Even watching the 2004 HR Derby this afternoo, it seemed like he didn't even want to talk to Boomer. Often times when Jon Miller makes a joke of some sort, he doesn't say anything and it leads to akward silent pauses. But in terms of knowledge, he's second to none.

                  Re: Best/Worst Broadcasters

Phillies announcers right now are at a bit of a crossroads.

Harry Kalas has seen his better days. As much as I hate to say it, he really needs to give up this act soon. He doesn't know the players, and cant follow the ball anymore. he think's every ball hit in the OF is going out of the park.

Scott Graham is an up and comer on the Radio side, and will eventually replace Kalas.

Don't even get me started about Chris Wheeler.

Everybody go to http://www.mlb.com right now, and check out the Video Highlights for 7/27 (today). The first three clips are White Sox/Royals, then watch the last clip on that video (which is White Sox/Royals again).

You come back on here, and tell me who are the biggest homer announcers in baseball history. I'll give you a hint: One of the guy's initials is D.J.

Well, compare it to how the Royals hit their home run, or walkoff single or whatever... and then that annoying, "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOAAAAARD..." I don't even want to finish it it's so bad.

Hopefully you White Sox fans don't like these guys.

Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow (for the Giants), however, are terrific. Not only is their home run call not annoying, but they do it the same way for both teams. Everybody on every team is complimented like they deserve to be. Listen to how they were praising Greg Maddux and Derrek Lee this series against the Cubs. Plus, they know how to draw a crowd, and keep it.

When I drive home from a Giants game listening to radio highlights from other games with audio clips, I hear the worst, most out-of-date announcing possible. It sounds like I'm listening to a game in 1950. I even heard my least-favorite Joe Angel and his annoying home run call. I'm so glad he's no longer with the Giants.

I still don't understand the hatred for Darrin Jackson and Ken Harrelson. So they're homers. Big deal. Just more reason to enjoy when your team beats them. I actually like those two, as I stated before. I liked when Wimpy (Tom Paciorek) was Hawk's partner though. Anyway, yes, there are some announcers out there who are biased or vocal towards the team they are calling the game for. Some aren't as biased. But I don't think there is anything wrong with rooting a little for the team that employs you while calling their game. Hell, Marty Brennaman spends more time bashing the Reds it's seemed like over the last 6 years than praising them.
