I can't understand how Ortiz has so many votes considering he isn't even leading his own team in batting average, home runs, RBI's, or runs scored.

Probably depends on your interpretation of the award. On the Red Sox, there is nobody who gets more big hits in important situations than Ortiz. Manny might have more HR's and RBI's but Ortiz is clearly the MVP of that team.

MVP of the league? That's another argument.
