He's a great player and deserves a ton of respect, but when everything is said and done, I don't think he's the greatest ever. In fact, if you put Tejada (sp) on the Yankees, I think that they are a better team.Comment

Re: Rob Dibble on Jeter snub
As a fellow sportswriter, this guy is a friggin ******. Let's see here...
'Jeter is the Jordan of baseball' How many scoring titles did Jordan win? How many times did Jeter even hit over .330? Twice. Maybe in clutchness you could make a comparison, but even Jeter isnt on the same level as MJ. And in skill, it really is laughable. When wasn't Jordan seen as the best at his position, or even the game? And I could name probably 3 or 4 SS better than Jeter the past 2 or 3 years.
'No one is more clutch in big games than him' Big Papi would love to argue this. Not just last post-season, but he has so many walk-off and clutch hits in-season, and 2 years ago postseason. With so many 'big hits', it's a wonder his team struggles to stay .500.
'And Michael Young is more deserving than Jeter??? Don't make me laugh.' Young has more hits, doubles, triples, homers, RBI, total bases, less K's, a higher Batting Avg, and a higher Slug. pct. This isn't a lifetime achievement award here. Young had the better year.
This guy is either a bad sports writer or he really just sucks in this article, but gimme a break man.Comment

That is taking the soul out of the team, he is their best locker room presence. No matter how bad or how well he plays he is the most valuable player on the team.Comment

Re: Rob Dibble on Jeter snub
Originally posted by philliesfan980Granted, he's the heart and soul of the Yankees, but we really can't quantify that in terms of wins and loses. I'm talking about from a better "on the field" club, Tejada is a better shortstop, and therefore the Yankees would be a better team.Comment

I don't believe Bill James ever said this. Just because he says he can not provide evidence of a clutch hitter, doesn't mean he thinks it doesn't exist.Comment

Re: Rob Dibble on Jeter snub
While Jeter may not be the best shortstop in the AL (or even on his own team for that matter) I do believe that he should be in the ASG based on star power alone. The game itself has dropped so far in the ratings, it needs players who are as well-recognized as Jeter to bring in casual fans. I mean, it's a bit of a shame that someone who was just recognized as "the face of baseball" isn't going to be appearing in the game's all-star festivities.Comment
