    Sheffield Rips Classic

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2106141

Why must Sheffield make himself sound like an idiot? He could've just been like a lot of other guys and say, "I don't want to risk getting hurt for the real season," but by saying ,"My season is when I get paid," really makes him sound like an arrogant jerk.

He's been a real piece of work lately.

Wow, this comes as such a surprise to hear Sheffield say this.

He is a mercenary. Plain and simple. The model of the boys in pin-stripes.

I somewhat agree to what he's saying, but at the same time, the way that he came out with it was very unjust. I mean, I wouldn't risk injury at that time either. I wouldn't even risk being food-poisoned in Japan like Kevin Brown and Jason Giambi (?) did. Some of it makes sense... the way that he brought it out didn't, and it didn't make him sound like a good guy.

Yeah that was a disaster in Japan. According to local sources here at the time... something like 15 guys on the team were sick for a few weeks after... and all Mike Mussina ate on the trip were PB&J sandwhiches he brought from home so that he wouldnt get sick.

And Dce, why is it that 75% of the threads I see you post in involve any wrongdoing or negativity towards/by the Yankees?

Couple this along with his latest comments about ARod and the Red Sox and Sheffy is showing what an intelligent misunderstood indvidual that he truely is.

What did he say? I haven't heard anything recently besides this and his comments about being traded,

I'll get the link in a few mins, basically out of nowhere from what I've read he seemed like he was trying to intimidate Red Sox pitchers from pitching in. Saying if they try anything with ARod again things will "much different" from last time. Saying the team needs to make sure AR feels comfortable, because he doesn't perform well when he doesn't or something along those lines.

It all seemed to come out of nowhere, especially after having played three series with them already.

I saw it on SOSH but don't have a link:

"We're going to bring our gold, our jewel in there, which is A-Rod," Gary Sheffield told me yesterday during the American League All-Star interview session.

"We're going to see how the chips fall this time. That's our man and we know he's our man.

"We're going to look out for him when he's in a situation like that."

I asked Sheffield exactly what he meant by that statement.

"When he's in a hostile environment, we've got to make sure he's comfortable because it helps our team," Sheffield answered.

And if something like the Varitek incident happens again?

"That's why I say it's going to be different," Sheffield said, looking me straight in the eye.

"We're going to make sure that Alex is taken care of."

No need, I found it in the NY Post. I don't think it weas out of nowhere because he said it to a NY Post writer who asked him how they are different in handling the Sox verbal challenges over last years and the fight with ARod and Varitek was brought up.

I didn't really see anything wrong with what he said. Sheff's a feisty guy and he's right in saying that the team should have A-Rod's back if anything like that were to happen again. I think its stretching it a little bit to say his comments there were on the same level as the ones about the Classic.

                    thanks Cam

I still don't understand where the hell this is coming from? Like I said we've played 3 series with them since the start of the season, not to mention the playoffs as well.

Sheffield's a tool. Why can't he just keep his mouth shut for once? I've hated the signing since the day it happened, no matter what numbers he puts up.

Agreed... I love him as a hitter but he's not the type of player the Yankees are accustomed to having since David Wells.

                          true

It just seems like he's been making alot of headlines lately for mainly his mouth instead of his play on the field.

But that's been the case with alot of players lately, who knows.

I agree. Most of this nonsense wouldn't even make the news if these guys didn't play for the Red Sox or Yankees. The media is trying to bait them all into soundbites now.

Thats a good point. The media was talking about the A-rod-Tek fight for weeks and it gave the stations something to show over and over again so why wouldn't the media want things to heat up between the two again?

Although it does feel a lot different without Pedro on the Sox.
