Screw him, I don't want him on the American team anyways.

      Re: Sheffield Rips Classic

There are a number of American players we can replace him in RF.

      J.D. Drew(.286 avg, 15 HR, 36 RBI)
      Jermaine Dye(.270 avg, 19 HR, 45 RBI)
      Shawn Green(.282 avg, 14 HR, 49 RBI)
or we can take a center fielder and slide him over to RF with names like:
      Johnny Damon(.343 avg, 4 HR, 42 RBI)
      Garret Anderson(.304 avg,11 HR, 65 RBI)

So the US doesn't really need your bat. So you can take your bat and go home after the season.

I completely agree. I don't know why this is such big news. He doesn't want to play? Fine, there's plenty of players that ARE willing to play. Non-issue in my book.

Exactly. Do people honestly think that a professional athlete would be playing if he didn't make money? Would you be doing your job if you didn't make money? I'm sick of hearing fake stuff by athletes, I'm glad someone actually speaks the truth.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

There's a difference. Most people's jobs dont involve playing a game they love to play, just long tedious hours.

Sheffield would have the oppurtunity to play in a possible once in a lifetime event (if he reitred within the next 2 years which he ver may will) and reperesent his country. Obviously he doesnt see it with the same excitement as I do, which is why I guess he's not going.

Who's fault is it that you don't pick a job that you love? And why do people get so offended because he doesn't want to "represent his country"? You said it yourself, it's a game and he doesn't have to do what he doesn't want to. People act like he's saying somehting about their family or something.

I don't have a problem with Sheffield not wanting to play for the US. That's his opinion and I respect it. But validating his reason and explaining that's this is different from the Olympics is totally crazy.

Him saying, "My season is when I get paid" makes him a money-hungry player. Even though it's true the perception of his character in the public eye makes him 'All about the Benjamins'. I don't fault him to looking out for himself AND there is nothing wrong with doing things for the interest of money BUT to be blaent about it is totally unethical.

And if he stopped right there he might have gotten a pass from a few people but then he goes on by saying, "I'm not sacrificing my body or taking a chance on an injury for something that's made up." WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING WHEN YOU STATED, 'for something made up.'? I don't get this guy. I just got more confused and puzzled when he said that but if someone can explain it maybe I might be more forgiving.

Agreed, the second part is just completely uncalled for. 'made up'... everything has to be made up somehow. The Olympics were 'made up', it just had a longer history. International tourneys will never be on the same competitive level as say, a pennant chase. So unless Sheffield's really that "all-out", how could be get injured? While warming up on the on-deck circle?

Sheffield obviously doesn't have a job that he loves either, or else he would be willing to do it for events like these, without having to get paid $15 million.

And I don't know if you know this yet, but hardly anyone "loves" their job. It isn't as easy as just "picking a job that you love." No matter what you do, you're still working, you still have stress, and you still have to drag yourself out of bed every day.
