A-Rod to play for the Dominican Republic in WBC

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2106934

Holy SH!T! Now their line is even more stacked. And we all along thought that he was going to play for the US. SIKE!

Guess the US should start convincing Sheffield to play...NOT!

i'm a believer that good pitching will beat good hitting. and since no other country has the pitching talent like the US, i would still consider the US the favorite.

That's a good point, especially considering the format of this tournament. The single elimination games are really go to be in favor of the team with the better pitching. There's also going to be a minimum of 12 pitchers per squad, and with the depth that the US has, that gives them a huge advantage.

Either way, this DR team could be the greatest offense ever assembled.

I think this is a bit odd. He's lived in the U.S. his entire life.

the article does say he does have dual citizenship. if he believes he's a dominican, that's his choice to make. i have no problems with that. now if he is choosing to be one or the other just to be in a certain baseball lineup, that's a different story. i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

We have Dontrelle. They have Pedro.

Dontrelle wouldn't even be our ace.

                    Projected lineups from baseball America:

                    DR
                    SP—Pedro Martinez (Mets)
                    SP—Bartolo Colon (Angels)
                    SP—Odalis Perez (Dodgers)
                    SP—Daniel Cabrera (Orioles)
                    RP—Francisco Cordero (Rangers)

                    USA
                    SP—Roger Clemens (Astros)
                    SP—Mark Prior (Cubs)
                    SP—Ben Sheets (Brewers)
                    SP—Mark Mulder (Cardinals)
                    RP—Billy Wagner (Phillies)

Not only is our core group of starting pitchers better, but we have much more depth. After Colon DR drops down to Odalis Perez, yet even after our #4 pitcher we have guys like Roy Halladay, Dontrelle Willis, Roy Oswalt, Kenny Rogers, Mark Buerhle, John Smoltz, Jake Peavy, Andy Pettite, Josh Beckett, and the least go on and on.

DR has an awesome team, but one thing they don't beat us in is pitching.

It should be... between him and that ******* kid in New Jersey who is going to exploit some marginal connection to Italy to play for them in soccer I'm not sure which is worse (actually I do, its that punk from new jersey with Serie A and Italy on the brain... somebody who before going to play soccer in that country lived there like no more than a month over his lifetime). I real hate anybody born and raised in the United States that love "their home country" or "motherland" or whatever country wasn't the place that they were born and raised. To me those people should start working on renouncing their American citizenship. It isn't being a traitor... but its close. Red, white, and blue... only when its convenient.

That's a really harsh statement, pal. How can you hate someone that has alot of love for the country their immediate family and/or ancestors are from?

So who are some possible replacements for 3B for the US?

Hank Blalock, Chipper Jones, Morgan Ensberg?

if the US can get its top dogs to play, were the favorite. if not, its obviously going to be the DR team. as kweiss pointed out, our pitching would be rediculous.

                            then for pitching you have

clemens, halladay, willis, smoltz, buerhle, oswalt, carpenter, peavy and on and on and on.

with guys like wagner, lidge, hoffman, hermanson, cordero ect for a pen.

that team would dominate, can match up power wise with anyone and the pitching is jus disgusting.
