The acquisiton of Randy Winn pretty much meant that Bonds was not going to play the rest of the year so this is no big surprise.

I'm telling you, MLB secretly suspended him for the steroid/BALCO crap. It's just like the NBA's secret suspension of Jordan for his high-stakes gambling. NBA didn't want to tarnish Jordan's image/legacy and MLB was more concerned with its own image than Bonds. I have no facts to back any of this up. Just pure and absolute speculation.

It could be that, but I doubt it. Somewhere it would leak out that the league is doing this. Anyways, doesnt he have to fail two drug tests defore he has to sit out a season. Plus he has doctors and coaches backing him up, and I doubt that they would lie about his situation.

He would have to fail 3 drug tests to be suspended for a whole season. If what they say is true and it is arthritis that is holding him back he might not play again, arthritis does not go away and arthritis in the knee is going to make it very difficult for Bonds to play on a consistant level when or if he returns.

I agree with this exact theory for both situations...

Maybe, but other than the Yankees (who do not need to add another bad contract, Bonds is owed around $20 million next season), who is going to trade for a 41 year old (who will turn 42 by next mid-season) who missed an entire season?.

A GMs job isn't to to pander to the fans, it's to do their best to build a winning team (or a winning team for the future if rebuilding). If trading Bonds were going to bring a lot in return a good GM would make the right move rather than worrying what people in san Francisco think. It's like Beane says in Moneyball: the differance between his job and an upper level job an any other company is that everyone thinks they know a lot more about baseball than they actually do; too many GMs get caught up in that and to an extent let popular opinion influence their moves.

Wow, you guys have the same philosophy as the Padres. Always trading away the youngsters or keeping them in AAA in favor of washed-up veterans like Dave Hansen, Jeff Cirillo, and Geoff Blum.

Man honestly that's what they all say. Give me a break. Of course everyone wants to "win", but really it's all about business and whether they make their money. Look at the Devil Rays and tell me management wants to win. I know the Giants WANT to win and they showed everyone by signing Vizquel Matheny and Benitez. I'm not questioning them NOR am I 'influencing' anyone. Bonds at this stage of his career can't bring ANYTHING in a trade so that's obviously out of the question. Sabean has shown us all that he is indeed trying to win NOW by trading multiple prospects for vet help.

I feel what you are saying, but the Giants need some major help to win it all. I think some teams would jump on Bonds right now. He can Dh and be a major threat. Just think what kind of numbers Bonds would put up if he was pitch to. There is no question in my mind that Bonds would be major lost, but the truth is his playing days in the outfield maybe over. I think they are going for it next year if Bonds can play to win it all. They have some players that can help them, They just need another starting pitches.

Re: Bonds done for the year.

There have been a lot of stories going around about my current situation. When I spoke with Barry Bloom from MLB.com, we talked about my current staus and how my rehab was coming along. He reported exactly what I told him -- I'm still unsure of if and when I'll be able to come back this year. This has not changed in the past couple of weeks. I'm working hard on the bike and the elliptical machine, but I'm just not there yet. While I continue to progress, I do not want to push myself to come back sooner and ultimately jeopardize the health of my knee and suffer a setback. However, I still remain optimistic.

I doubt he'll have any reason to try and come back this season with the Giants struggling more than ever. Now with Alou on the sidelines with injuries, the Giants are making the Rockies, who had only 10 wins on the road this season, look like they are the best team in the league.

With the NL West being the farcity that it is, I can see him coming back.
