They are also saying it's a bigger name. Sosa is a bigger name, even though he doesn't have Raffy's career stats. Palmiero's name really isn't that big, he's not a top tier superstar or anything. When it comes out watch the name be a middle of the road player. I'll lose it if that's the case. If they're going to leak this info that a big name player is about to go down, it better well be a big name player. 1st ballot HOF type player.Comment

I'm going way out on a limb but I'm going to say Thome. I know he's injured, but I'm taking a wild guess.Comment

LOL, that'd be the best pool yet.
Also I don't think Thome is a 'megastar'. He's prolly a lil above Palmiero in terms of "name power" but I highly doubt someone such as Gammons would refer to Thome as a mega-star."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

It could also be the Big Giambino.Comment

Re: More steroid users coming
If we are talking mega-star, there are only a few players that fit that criteria. And it's true that the player is caucasian, that makes the sample size even smaller.
I can only think of ClemensComment

Re: More steroid users coming
I'm still sticking with my source who said a Yankees pitcher would be announced as testing positivve in the coming weeks.
I have a friend whose dad has a friend that works as a guy that advises young players how to handle their money when they first get big contracts... and he got word last week that 3 players would exposed as testing positive this week. The frst was Raffy, the second was Franklin, and the 3rd was a Yankees pitcher.
From what I hear, he thinks it'll probably be released to the public tomorrow. He wasnt told who but his personal opinion was Strutze or Proctor but he's not sure of who it is... just that it was one of our pitchers.
Hopefully he was wrong but he's a pretty credible guy usually so just keep your eyes open tomorrow and hopefully this won't ruin our season if its someone important like Sturtze.
When I talked to him he said he had spoken with guys in the front offices of some teams and that he was 100% sure one of the players that may test positive this year was a Yankees pitcher and that he thought it was a bullpen guy... not a starter.
Now the only guy in the bullpen thats a bigger name than Raffy is Mo. Now if Mo was found to be on steroids... I might just shoot myself.
Other than that... as much of a Clemens fan as I am... its just so hard to believe that a man of his age could be in such unbelivable shape and avoid injury. I pray Clemens doesn't test positive because hes one of my favorite pitchers of all time.
For the A-Rod thing... I know a lot of Yankee haters would be creaming their pants if that happened... but I'm not a big A-Rod fan but I don't see it happening. When he came up with the M's as an 18 year old... he was pretty built and not some stick like Bonds was.
Actually... this is only relevant in dealing with steroids that increase muscle. But we all know there are plenty of other kinds.. such as ones that aid in recovery or prevent injury where in that case... its anyones guess becuase those can't be spotted from afar by fans like muscle promoting ones can.

Re: More steroid users coming
I have the sinking feeling that it's going to be Clemens. The man had a 2 year stretch where he was pretty human but then all of a sudden he becomes the greatest pitcher alive. It's a bit baffling unless he had enhancements. On one hand I wouldn't be shocked if he tested positive but on the other hand i'd laugh like a hyena because that would tarnish his career forever.
I don't care how great his numbers are, something like that will bump him out of first ballot HOF status and probably the Hall altogether until he's Vets Comittee eligible. The Baseball Writers Association have LOOOONG memories.
EDIT: I bet Sheffield is one of the 50 that tested positive as well.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
