On WEEI they said that both Boston writers who have a vote were leaning towards A-Rod. They better change their number and move if Papi loses a close vote.

I'd be hunting them down if they voted for A-Rod...not because he doesn't deserve it but they're boston people voting for a yankee...BLASPHEMY!

Plus the fact that he deserved to be higher than 4th in the voting last year.

          Comparison....

          Hitter's Formula
          • Alex Rodriguez ... .668
          • David Ortiz ... .660
          RBI Stat
          • Alex Rodriguez ... .496
          • David Ortiz ... .584
I would probably have to go with Ortiz here by a very-very-very small margin.

i have to go with arod, arod has stolen so many hits from hitter plus he has done what no other right handed hitter has done in the yankees which says alot i need to take arod he's done more then papi has, he's has clutch stops like yesurday when stursey was having a problem he got them an important stop.

I lvoe how everyone points to this whole "most homers by a righty" at the stadium thing. Well, what about Papi, most homers for a lefty, or any hitter for that matter, except Jimmie Foxx.

                spectacular D by Arod tonight

I was reading somewhere on SOSH, they had a chart up with some SBR way of rating defensive efficency, surprisingly enough to some, Arod was rated pretty poorly.
“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on Sheffield

I don't see how this is even a debate. A-Rod makes less outs and creates more runs.

                  A-Rod 1.031 OPS
                  Ortiz 1.000 OPS

                  A-Rod .421 OBP
                  Ortiz .396 OBP

                  A-Rod 9.62 RC27
                  Ortiz 8.46 RC27
                  NFL: Tennessee Titans
                  MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Papi is more valuable in terms of the combination of contribution on the field, clubhouse presence and the concept of "value". ARod makes 25 mil. Ive heard Papi makes from 3-8 mil but in any case, where "value" is concerned Papi is a better value than ARod.

...Oh, and Papi is as clutch as it gets.

Those stats mean nothing without looking at when the runs were created. Are runs more valuable in a 2-1 game or a 10-1 game?

Papi made $5.25mil this year. Only about a $20 million difference.

Neither Arod nor Ortiz had a big weekend series and both teams are playoff bound. Since the two clubs finished with the same record, I can't really see giving Arod an edge because his team was crowned AL East Champions. Arod did have one homerun, though it was a pretty meaningless homer and it gave him 48 to lead the AL. Arod gets the homerun crown and I think thats all he deserves (along with a silver slugger and maybe a gold glove). Ortiz was my pick for MVP going into the weekend series, and still is now that the series is over.

Like I said, Papi is a better value.

Since the postseason has nothing to do with the voting, A-Rod.

Contrary to what some believe, A-Rod had plenty of big hits in the regular season. Maybe not all the dramatic walk off homers that Ortiz had, but he was still clutch in the regular season, and he still made a huge impact offensively, defensively and on the basepaths.

Unfortunately, that didn't carry over to the playoffs this time.
